What Should I Do First?

Hi Guys.

Love the forum and have been skulkin around it for a few weeks now. I've been reading a lot about flashing stock and custom roms and think that I have the jist of it.

I should be receiving my Omnia 2 tomorrow and it still has wm6.1 on it and is locked to Bell Mobility (Canada, I think it's a I800L) I have downloaded Octans, the cdma driver, and the official 6.5.3 rom, ebo, bin and pda. I have located the correct csc on the forum and have acquired that also.

I am not to interested in flashing to a bloated official rom and want to flash to a custom one. So my question is: Can I just update from the official 6.5.3 ebo, bin, bells csc, and a custom rom of my choosing based on 6.5.3? Or should I flash to the complete official first then flash a custom pda?

Also, should I activate it first or flash it then activate?

Feel free to give me any other advice you may have as well, I hate asking questions that have already been answered so I am sorry for if this has already been asked.

Thanks for all your help.

I think you need to unlock your phone first........ not sure though... you should search this post from top to bottom...

Tweaks about omnia i8000

also you must read this :

flashing guide for i8000

a line from above post my be of your interest

Notes about i8000L

Some users reported flashing (without any problems) a I8000 PDA image to a I8000L phone (from people who reported flashing just PDA part, the "success" rate seems to be 100% so far).

Rodrigofd suspects the same applies to CSC image, but for obvious reasons (different bands) he assumes Phone part is strictly incompatible between i8000 and i8000L..

Quoting Rodrigofd: "As regards EBOOT part, it is a mistery (if possible to flash i8000 eboot to i8000L phones) but i suppose no i8000L user is willing to risk it, since its well known the risks that a failed eboot flashing carries....so, in short, for I8000L users, feel free to experiment PDA ROMs flashing, and stick AWAY from flashing Phone and EBOOT parts."

I add that a couple of users reported success in flashing all 4 parts to a i8000L, BUT it's just 1 or 2 new users at most so it may NOT BE attendible info.

read all the stickies.. here and the main i8000 forum..

Backup your stock rom using sorg's tool. Then flash to the latest stock rom. everything.. ebo, csc, nb0, phone.. anything screws up, you still have your warranty :)

And i reccommend you to realy update the ebo as the 6.1 ebo has many issues with the 6.5 roms. unless if it comes with the latest ebo already...

if you are really afraid of bricking your phone just leave the ebo out..

I've been looking around so much it's getting hard on the eyes. Could somebody please point me in the right direction to find the latest eboot, phone, and pda for the I8000L. I thought that I downloaded the right stuff here, but after so much reading I'm now not so sure. I am going to use and NRG rom if that makes a difference.

Thanks Guys

I found this one here It's labeled as JD ROM. Is it the latest? Is it right for the I8000L? I have no idea what the letters denote, or if they are in any sort of order. I see JD, JE....

Thanks
