When you use the camera in video mode, it seems to automatically set the focus to the furthest possible focus length.

My question, is anyone aware of a method to adjust the focus of the camera either DURING video, or if not, to at least set the focus BEFORE the video begins?

I would like to use the video mode sometimes in situations that require macro or just a close focus, but it doesn't seem possible unless I have totally missed the option to do this.

Thank you.

Well .. Good news .. you actually can change focus settings even in Video ..

To that that you're ganna need a Registry Editor .. say .. Resco Explorer with Registry add-on ..

and first of all make a backup copy of your registry ..

then using the registry editor go to this Directory HKCU\Software\Samsung\Camera\RecSet

Delete all values in that key except one value (00) ..

restart the device .. and go to the camera app .. and you'll be able to do a lot of things that you can't normally do (such as making Macro mode available in Video)

but notice that all settings in Video mode are changed when you have deleted that values .. so rest them (e.g. Saturation, Contrast and sharpness are all set to -2 )

Camera Mode however .. won't be changed a bit ..

Wow that is great! I never expected a solution, I though I would have to live with this silly limitation :(

How did you discover this? Thank you !!

Edit: after some testing, it seems autofocus does not work in video mode, however, macro mode can be used prior to starting video, so this is a big improvement!

You're welcome guys .. but just to clear sth up .. I didn't find this out .. someone else in this forum did .. I just didn't remember who or where I read it..

That's why I've wrote the whole solution ..

and about the Auto Foucs .. indeed it doesn't really work in video mood .. but now you can have macro and flash enabled for all video recording moods (Normal,MMS and Slow) .. so that's good ..

and now you can record QVGA videos for MMS .. (it was limited to QCIF)

and one more thing .. you can record slow motion videos at 480P (but it never works.. I mean you can choose that resolution and that mood but you'll get green and black colored video .. and the device might freeze .. so you don't have to try it)

and as for video quality .. unfortunately nope .. nothing so far .. hope to get better videos with Omnia2droid (because -I believe- its a matter of hyper compression of the video by camera application , not a bad camera sensor or sth like that) .. anyway we'll see when we get it..

EDIT : @Odysseas07 .. what is the memory you're using to record videos ?? cuz that happened to me when I was using the Storage Card not the internal storage .. I believe its related to the writing speed on the memory card itself .. so use the internal storage instead .. or maybe a higher level SD will help , don't know for sure ..
