The WiFi problem....

Actually, the new Hungarian firmware's main bootloader (not boot.img) fixed it, so if you set the "Wifi sleep policy" to NEVER, it will not sleep :(

Two little problem though:

- you need to re-set this option, as it is on NEVER by factory but WILL NOT WORK

- It will disconnect from wifi when screen unlocked (and only then), and instantly reconnect.

Unfortunately, for me at least, the situation has not improved. (I flashed the phone with the new Hungarian firmware that unlocked the missing 256M of RAM)

Try this to see if the wifi sleep issue has really been solved: run Skype or some other IM application on the phone that should wake up the phone when called. Make sure the phone is not being charged. Let the phone go to sleep by pressing the on/off button shortly or just by letting the screen go dark. Now call it (Skype or other IM application) through the net from another device. If the phone rings, then the problem is really solved. (If successful, you could re-test it after, say, 20 minutes of sleep). Otherwise, we'll have to wait further for a better solution.

People tend not to understand the real issue, namely, that if the wifi sleeps, you will not be able to receive Skype calls, IM messages, etc. as the applications that connected through wifi before the phone went to sleep mode are not notified by the system that wifi is no more available and they should at least switch to 3G. Of course, ideally wifi should not sleep, at all, if set so. I hope this helps those people understand the issue who think the "blade wifi fix" fixes all wifi-related issues.

You can also check by pinging the phone from another device.

TomG has suggested that in order to fix the wifi reconnect issue (note, reconnect not sleep) we try adding a non-default entry for wifi.supplicant_scan_interval , If someone wants to try can they let us know if it speeds the reconnect up?

For me any way the reconnect was never an issue, otherwise I'd test the non-default entry.

I will say it was great on 2.1 (both Sebs and MCR), mediocre on Alpha 4 Froyo, and amazingly fast on desoftenated.

Has anyone compared the values in versions to see what the differences are in better and worse performing firmware?

I'm off now but I may get a chance tomorrow to try and look into this.

It's the sleep issue that bugs me so I'd like to hear more from fonix232 on what's been done on his phone since the Hungarian Update.
