Guest bebelala69 Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Yep, 9 files in the folder is correct - and yet if you paste the below command at the same prompt at the one where you ran the dir command it gives you the error message? fastboot-windows flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.8-blade.img I actually renamed my img file from recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.8-blade.img to just blade.img so my command became fastboot-windows flash recovery blade.img p.s. I'm probably older than you - maybe just though. Well I'm impressed with renaming the file ....something happened thougH i'm not getting too excited yet... entered the command and received the following.....sending recovery 3544kb OKAY ....writing recovery ...OKAY .!!!! B) Can I send the teenager out for my supper yet!!!

Guest scoobydoo99 Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 I had to do this to the first phone I converted, not sure why, but it worked. Congrats, installing the bladevillian 1.1.0 rom is the easy bit now - but do a backup from within clockwork before installing the new rom.

Thanks a lot , you've been a great help ( and the others aswell )...I will do the bladevillain next, just one question though , on 2518 clockwork is the option backup and restore the same as backup as you mentioned ? on the drop down menu..can't see backup alone that's all ? Cheers

Cheers Yep, it's the backup and restore option, then backup. Also after you've done the initial backup and then installed the new rom, once you've got the rom and all the settings the way you want them, do another backup. It creates another backup file - they can be identified by their dates if you need to restore.

Thats all done but now a bit confused ...I have downloaded bladevillain but I can't see how to drag it across to the SD CARD of the phone and Steve's guide doen't explain that bit , only mentions that when you connect the phone into the USB it allows the SD to mount .Where? and is the phone supposed to be connected in clockwork mode...sorry for all the questions ,but I am learning !!! Thanks

Thanks No, not in clockwork mode for transferring files to/from the SD card. Switch the phone on normally, when it's fired up, connect it to the PC with the USB cable. It should now ask you whether you want to 'mount' or 'don't mount' - select 'mount'. This then lets you access the SD card from the PC as an external USB storage device. You then just copy the rom zip file from the PC to the SD card, copying it into the root (top level you can see on the SD card, it's not called root folder) folder on the SD card. p.s. alternatively you could take the SD card out if you have a seperate SD card reader you can connect to your pc. Guest scoobydoo99 Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 (edited) Just to be clear, this is the rom I installed. I installed the 'lite' version. http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-0-rls4-13-dec/ Edited January 3, 2011 by scoobydoo99

Ok ...connected in normal mode and asked to mount . The devize is appearing in my computer as " removable disk L " but the folders are not immediately obvious as an SD CARD ....Android, clockworkmod,LOST.DIR,d7logs and DCIM ( which is in two parts , 100ANDRO and Camera...clicked on properties to see if they show as near 2gb size but no joy . Am I in the wrong place? Thanks

Thanks Yep, right place, the SD card only creates folders as the apps are installed so on a fresh phone there's not many folders, go back to the root directory and copy the rom zip file there. I posted the rom I used above, I see there's a bladevillian as well as the customised bladevillian - I'm sure they're both fine but I used the 'lite' version of the customised bladevillian.
Guest scoobydoo99 Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 (edited) Here's a few more of my notes to help you out. After you've done the backup. These are some quick notes - check the notes in the thread for the rom itself in case I've missed anything. Install the customised bladevillian 1.1.0 rom by installing the zip file on your SD card in the root folder. Start phone in clockwork recovery (power on + volume down), do a wipe data/factory reset and then wipe cache partition. Again from within clockwork recovery, choose the 'install zip from sdcard' option, then select the zip file to install. Once installed, choose the 'reboot system now' option from within clockwork. After installing the rom, here's what I installed/configured to make the phone 'teenager friendly' From google market (once you've registered), install the following free apps Poweramp - better sounding music player. APN Backup - this is to setup for picture messaging, you might not need this, depends which network the phone is on? Home Switcher - launcherpro is installed, but if you accidentally select the android home you can't switch back easily, with home switcher you can set launcherpro as the default Spare Parts (set windows and transition animation settings to fast) Picture Folder - installed already, but needs to be reinstalled from the market to work properly Fancy Widget - gives you the cool clock/weather widget on the main screen (like htc phones) Handcent - better text message app, probably selecting the iphone skin is the coolest Setup keep wifi alive, select 'always on' and in the advanced options, tick the first four workarounds. Guest it3chno Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Hi, I recently bought a ZTE Blade/Orange Sanfransisco and got into a bit of a mess with it. I first flashed a debranded ROM on it and seemed to give a blue tint to the android logo. I then opted for the bladevillian eclair and installed it via clockworld. All went well until the phone powered off completely and will not boot. All that happens is the phone vibrates incessantly and does not stop. I need assistance getting this phone up and running again. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When you say 'clockworld' do you mean clockwork recovery? or is clockworld some other recovery type app? If it is clockwork recovery, can you still get into clockwork using the power on + volume down button?

Thanks so much ...up an running and gorgeous , just bloody gorgeous...he will be proud of his old man , but you've opened pandoras box here ...yippee , i'M VERY EXCITED !!!! Cheers  B) :o
Guest scoobydoo99 Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 Glad I could help, I went through some of the problems you had as well. Now you have clockwork installed and you've done a backup, you can try other roms knowing the phone can always be restored back to a stable rom like the customised bladevillian. I'm sticking with the bladevillian till a stable and well tested 2.2 is available. It'll need to be very stable before I put it on my teenagers phones. I've got 2.2 running on my Pulse, it's an improvement over the 2.1 android but I'd rather have a stable fast rom than one that needs a lot of attention. There's plenty of toys available on 2.1 to keep teenagers amused once you're running a custom rom - like you say, bit like unlocking Pandora's box.

If it is clockwork recovery, can you still get into clockwork using the power on + volume down button? Hi again, Sorry about the typo. It is clockwork recovery. I also cannot get into clockwork recovery via power button + volume -. Does the phone vibrate incessantly when it needs to be charged? At the moment I can not check as the phone is not with me. Thanks
Guest cbrpaul Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 (edited) After you install the drivers on your PC, are you then following these steps exactly? To install •Unplug the USB cable, turn off your device and take out the battery •Replace the battery and turn the device on holding the 'volume up' key. The device will stay at the 'green android' screen. •Plug the device into the PC. •From a command prompt run 'fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.8-blade.img' •When this finishes, from the command prompt run 'fastboot reboot' To enter recovery mode, restart your device holding down the 'volume down' key, or type 'adb reboot recovery' from the command line. If yes, then switch everything off and try a different USB port on the PC. Just to say thx to scoobydoo, i was stuck at thispoint and this post soreted it out  One other thing that caught me out when i was putting on recovery , was that the file name , " recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.8-blade.img' " is actually named as "recovery_clockwork_2.5.1.8-blade.img' note the underscore and not dash !! hope that may help someone too !!
