No, the bootloader is effectively the BIOS of the device, the very first thing that runs when you power up. Once the bootloader has started, it then boots up the system, either going into recovery mode or booting the main OS! :unsure:

Sort of, it allows us to boot the recovery image without having to boot up into android first.

This is good because it means if you flash something and it goes horrendously wrong, you can boot straight into recovery and restore from a backup :unsure:
