Is there an easy way of installing a new ROM and keeping your existing shortcuts, apps, wallpapers etc?

Basically I'd like to use the Clockwork method to try a Froyo ROM but don't want to have to set the phone up from scratch again.

If so, what's the most stable, with least known problems, ROM to go for?

Thanks, and congratulations on a useful and vibrant site! :(

Titanium backup does all this (restoring your apps and setup across different ROMs) - the free version is good, but tends to hang if you give it too many apps to backup / restore at once

Also it can lead to complications and conflicts but generally is stable enough

Suggest you

1 Get Titanium (paid is good, but try the free one first - be prepared for it to freeze if you give it too much to do)

2 backup your current set up with Clockwork (a nandroid backup - this is described all over the forum - search for it)

3 Flash your new rom

4 Install clockwork and restore your apps and settings

They're v basic instructions - as I say there are walkthroughs all over the forum - Stephen Harper's guides are excellent

remember to search for this stuff before asking, if you can

Have fun

Thanks for the quick reply..so Titanium Backup will backup all the icons/shortcuts as well as the actual APK's etc? Excellent! I did have a quick "play" with it but it didn't seem to backup very much and did hang a couple of times. Can you do multiple backups, ie do a few bits at a time and then restore them all together?

Which ROM would you recommend? Not bothered about bells-and-whistles, I'm more concerned with stability and minimum problems.

Has anyone found a work-around to install and run Flashboot on the latest Orange SF's? Mine boots as normal when the "+" key is held down. Clockwork works fine holding down the "-"

Apks are basically self-contained, they're not like exes. They have that stuff in them.

Flb is the most stable atm I think.

You can flash a TPT image if you want to enable fastboot. There're one or two topics saying about it.

Edit: Just been reading what wbaw was saying in a different thread. Fastboot still works but the shortcut vol + doesn't work in the newer blades. If you root you can get to it via terminal emu or quickboot or whatever.

Think of it this way

Nandroids are "safety" backups able to restore your phone Exactly as they were at the time it was made. Nothing more.

Titanium backs up apps and settings so that you can restore them on other roms etc.

They are both 2 completely different backups for completely different things

Many thanks Azurren. That has made thinks so much clearer

How responsive is the touchscreen on the Blade? Can any sensitivity adjustments be made to the screen and does the responsiveness of the screen match up to the iPhone, HTCs etc.?

Well, its got a 3.5' capacitive touch screen,so just like an iPhone. HTC's are also capacitive and have the same screen as the sf (amoled)

So, heck yeah!! The sf has an awesome screen for the price

Daft question 290 from me I think. In previous posts I asked about setting up balde, putting daughters sim in ( shes on orange and staying that way for now) etc Did that today, she can text, phone but connecting to internet not good at all . Put back orange sim I used to set up phone - worked brilliantly. 3 questions

1. Hers is a really old sim she has moved from phone to phone, could this be the problem?

2. She put all her contacts (about 100) on sim to enable her to import them to blade, worked fine. Would there be any benefit in removing these from the sim now. and would it work any better.

3. Finally, is there an easy way to change sims but transfer her number to new sim that worked. Both orange sims. (feel this may involve orange - if so, cant you just see problems on the horizon) Thanks

Is her old sim a 3G sim? If only 2G that could be the problem. I used to transfer old sims from phone to phone which used to work OK for me but I had one that failed and I had to ring Orange who said they would have to replace the sim. I already had one spare so they just transferred everything over to that one, took a few hours, but maybe you could try that.

1) yeah, hers is probably only 2G, if its old. you need a newer 3G one.

2) i would keep them on there, as a backup. but she can remove them if she wants.

3) yeah, only through orange... :D. But, there is a new system devised by them in which you can transfer credit from one sim to another. ie.. transfer new sims credit onto old sim.

Here is a hard one...

When is Android 3 (honeycomb) due to hit the streets?

Is it for tablets only or will some handsets appear with it?

Is it worth hanging back on an upgrade to wait for it.......

Failing that what top end handsets (thinking about a Galaxy 2 or HTC HD) will accommodate flashing as and when?

I already have a SF (since October) and am well impressed.

1) out already on the motorola XOOM

2) tablet only

3) depends if you use tablets or if you prefer phones

4) the sf already does:

I know 2.3 Gingerbread is "out", but how stable is it compared to JJ (which I currently use)? It is worth waiting for a 'stable'-er version?

Thanks.

only way to check if you like it is to try it.

now, it is fairly stable, but not really recommended for everyday use, as some things don't work.

ive heard its faster than any 2.2 rom
