Hi guys, the SF is my first smart phone and I'm loving the experience so far.

a quick Q: I'm using Rocket dialer (for dialing and contacts) and Handcent (for text), how can I get them to be used as the default notifier for missed calls and messages?

It's not so much an issue when the phone is powered on, as the missed call and text notice disappear if I open the respective aps, but whenever I switch off the phone and back on again, all the missed calls appear again in the notification bar, as if I have never checked them before.

This has happened in different Home programs which makes me believe the issue is somewhere else. I'm using Regina at the moment and the missed notification widget also only appears to clear texts and missed call if I use the stock dialer and message to check them.

Is there anything to fix this?

Thanks in advance

You have to go into the settings for the default call and text apps and disable the notifications otherwise they come through twice.

Thanks for the reply. I had changed the notification settings for the stock text app, but don't know how to change it for the dialer app.

An update:

I had a few issues with Handcent (text app) and have changed to Chomp. This does seem to have solved the issue with removing any unread message notifications I had before.

However, with Rocket Dial, although it does remove notifications of any missed calls, whenever the phone is rebooted ALL the missed call notifications show up again. Also the missed notification widget by Regina 3D is not cleared when Rocket Dial is used as the default dialer.

OK its finally sorted! A program update resolved the issue. I guess it was something they were working on!

Mine doesn't squeek. Maybe your case is incorrectly fitted.

Many badly made or fitted plastic to plastic parts will squeak when they rub together.

Very carefully rub a small amount of WD40 (squirted from a can onto a cloth) into the gap and leave for a minute and then wipe dry.

I have received my White Zte Blade yesterday , and i have unlocked it , it work good

but when i tried to enter my second operator sim card i get 2 errors :

1. "the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly "

and when i try to connect to the network i get :

2. "your sim card does not allow a connection to this network "

It has stock rom , no app instaled , i restored to the factory setting , no luck .,,,

Hope you could help

Thnx

p,s the card works fine on my nokia

Update : It is fixed :)

I left the card inside for more than 6h (constantly trying to connect ) , after i switched it to the Airplane mode , it wen kind a in a loop, i could not turn it off , i keep getting the error "the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly ", so i needed to reboot , after reboot , it connected to network ( it is worth to mention that it was plugged in usb for charging )

Update : After Shutdown , same story ....

Update: just upgraded to android 2.2 Swedish_Spring_RLS5 :) and everything works fine

On CM7 I don't use ADW Launcher, I can't stand it, I have no need for it, can I make a flash install GO Launcher instead of ADW by replacing files? If so which one's and will i need too change anything.

Basically I want too add GO Launcher to install when i add a ROM instead of ADW yes I know I will need to edit everytime I have to flash a new ROM I am fine with this. Also will i experience issues when GO SMS updates? It updates often lately.

use 7-zip to open the rom.zip, goto system app and delete adwlauncher.apk and replace it with a golauncher.apk

if you want to do it on the phone, use something like root explorer/linda manager

goto system, app and do the same as above

Okay thats what i thought, just too clarify i don't need too modify any files right?

I thought their might have been something specifying the istallation paths for the apks.

When I wake up my phone, I have to use the top button. Are there any fixes/apps to make it so that the menu/home/back button wakes the phone up? I remember reading a thread about it, but I forgot D:

Here's my daft question :

Why do people consider it ok to rip off the proprietary applications of such as HTC (i.e sense roms for non HTC devices - HTC_IME included in blade roms).

The whole practice of using libs from stock rom's in custom roms (instead of forcing the user to rip them themselves) is just as illegal.

But yet something like a CM7 build with a warezed ADW launcher ex included

or a 2.2 rom with a warezed blade buddy would be frowned upon.

Why is this ?

(I have thought about, It is that people like to pretend that the whole thing is actually not illegal ?)

Why is ripping off a full quite complicated bit of work less bad than ripping off a tiny useless little app ?

Everyone distributing a rom that has any binary component from someone else at all is commiting copyright infringement.

(Building CM7 yourself with files from your stock ROM I guess is more of a grey area probably ok).

Including googles market is for certain illegal without the rom having formally passed googles certification process.

but a rom including the ADVERTISING SPAM.net appstore (With permission) would also be frowned upon (even though in that case it would be more legal than someone including the market without a distribution agreeement for it).

Copyright infringement is the same regardless of the circumstances.

(I have more sympathy for handset manufacturer's by virtue of them designing and making tangable goods.)

Why is this ?

The manufacturers/developers have allowed them to be used. I'm CM7, its just normal ADW, not ex and ADW is free so they aren't breaking any laws...

New forum user here (and complete phone novice), so a perfect thread for my very first daft question:

After unlocking the Blade, can you revert to using the Orange SIM again if you've already used another one? I don't live in the UK but plan to (probably) buy the phone there on my next visit home in July and want to test with a non-UK SIM but would be nice to be able to just stick the Orange SIM back in and use the free credit during my visit.

I'm guessing unlocked mean unlocked, so any SIM will do, but thought I read something somewhere to the contrary with regard to the original SIM.

Thanks in advance for the info. More daft questions coming in due course.

Unlocked means exactly that - you can use any SIM in it including an orange one.

By default the phones come locked to orange, but unlocking it via a code or installing a custom ROM that doesn't check if it's 'allowed' to use any SIM card in it will allow you to put what you like in it - although you may have to input APN settings for internet if you're on an obscure carrier.

Thanks for the quick reply Swimmerboy.

Next daft question: Although impressed with all I've read about the OSF, I just wonder if the screen will be big enough for me, so am interested to hear reviews of the ZTE Skate's 4.3 inch screen when that eventually comes out. My question is though, the pixelation will still be 480 x 800 pixels, so will the Skate's larger screen in fact only make things more stretched and less clear?

For the record, I want to be able to use the device wirelessly (from my landline mostly) for Skype (messaging only), accessing Gmail and general internet surfing.

Supplementary daft question: For the above wireless activities, would I notice any discernible difference with the Skate's 800MHz processor over the Blade's 600 MHz?

The screen's great in my humble opinion. It comes with a default 'density' of 240, but I tend to lower this to 180 in order to get more 'stuff' on the screen. Can get 7x7 icons on the homescreen quite happily and can see 10 emails when I open Gmail without squinting my eyes, or getting any weird text pixellation.

There are tablets out there with 480x800 screens, and the first EEEPc came with a 7" screen with the same resolution so i wouldn't worry too much about it.

Supplementary answer: Probably not unless you stick to the stock ROM, but you can overclock the blade to around 670-710Mhz if you feel it's too slow for some added snappiness. The only area where you may get angry is the Blade's tendancy to switch off Wifi when asleep. I believe there are some workarounds for this (I rarely use Wifi so can't help much!) but if the Skate has solved this problem natively you may be better off with that.

Thanks again Swimmerboy. For sure I'd add a custom ROM and get rid of the Orange bloatware. Wifi is an important feature for me, so before I get to the UK next month I'll do some further research on here to see how stable it is in the most stable custom ROM version. And with any luck the Skate will be released so I have something to compare it to.

Cheers

OK, guys, I did not go through the whole thread, apologies in advance if this has been asked before.......

I live in the Emerald Isle...Ireland. We are geographically and in every other way close to our nearest neighbours in the UK, we luv you guys, honest!!!

However, we cannot view content from BBC on the web, due to Geographic IP restrictions, which can be by-passed by the use of Proxies, with Firefox, Chrome, etc.

There is no provision for Proxy settings on Android, at least 2.2.....

However, I have downed Autoproxy, from XDA, which may just do the job.

I also got my grubby liddle hands on Myplayer, which does not require Flash, from a another well-known source :D .

Question is, how to marry these two apps, to allow me look at Eastenders on my OSF/Blade :D

If inappropriate, please say so and I will withdraw the question and retire to the corner gracefully:
