Guest mihajaru Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Does one require a factory reset before applying the update 1.6.1? or it doesnt really matter, i've applied the prvious updates without doing a factory reset, but i just want to ask the community if you do aa reset before applying the update, will it have an advantages?
Guest Kid A Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 2449 straight off of the install, set to smartass, with no other tweaks. Bloody hell.
Guest pjg_pigeon Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Just updated from 1.6.0 to 1.6.1 a few force closes. Cannot load screenshot or adwlauncher. should I factory reset or something? Also noticed the system update link to streakdroid says a new version is available. Is .2 available already. Lol  keep up the great work Steve, another donation on the way.
Guest wrightc88 Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Nice work Steve, just hit 2321 with quadrant. No FC's everything is running smooth.
Guest Spike8585 Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 I finally got my rebelsim'd streak running again, after not realizing that the install.cfg is now in the sd root directory, and call install.txt. Not having the 'nobaseband' command really F'd things up. Without an SD reader, it was quite difficult to fix it up. Anyone in the same boat, make sure you turn on airplane mode, then use root explorer to move and rename the install.txt and re-flash. Your keyboard will crash constantly, but keep trying, and you'll get there. Now I am up and running, but I get about 6-8 FC's at the start, my widgets dont run, its pretty much unusable. I am guessing I may need to do a reset. If so, do I just pwer on holding the vol -/+ buttons and do it there on the main screen? What data/settings will I lose? I did a full titanium backup before I did the install. Do I just restore through there? I haven't used it except for backing up, so far. Thanks!
Guest BigBlue007 Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 (edited) With 1.6.1, AdFree gives me the following error: "Unable to locate a partition to remount to write the hosts file to" Any idea why that is? Performance is awesome. Where's Steve digging out these boosts from version to version? Edited January 22, 2011 by BigBlue007
Guest Spike8585 Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 I did both factory resets, first the first screen one, then reflashed. Boot animation loop. Then the one within the clockwork, then reflashed. Still boot animation loop. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Guest Crinos512 Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 (edited) Ok, the instructions have you put the rom in the root of the sdcard with the install.txt. Does the rom look to the root for the install.txt when installing, or does it look to the same dir the rom is in? (I'm a type A personality with ocd tendencies.... must clean up the file structure! ) Edited January 22, 2011 by Crinos512

Thanks! first flash 1.5.1, than pull out battery, than enter recovery (not clockwork or any other, original first screen white text) and do a factory reset, than let 1.5.1 boot, than flash 1.6.1! You're welcome!

Factory reset is best from volume keys, rather than clockwork or mistadman recovery. But you WILL lose all your apps and data. I've used titanium pro before and a full restore caused fc on several apps. I tried restore app only, but still got some fcs. Using dell backup and restore will work for the apps bit it's a pain to restore all your apps because it's one by one. Hope this helps. Edited January 22, 2011 by anthscorner

(I'm a type A personality with ocd tendencies.... must clean up the file structure! ) Install.txt must be in root of your \sdcard\ Which recovery are you using? Clockwork can read both upper and lowercase directories, as will v2e of mistadmans recovery but v2d didn't read lowercase directories i.e. \sdcard\download When in doubt move the zip to the root.of your sdcard. :) Ta.

Guest LorD CLockaN Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 It was Steve's idea to save my Streak few days ago  so not my credit!
Guest majinvega Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Yet another outstanding job Stephen. Just uploaded it to the Streak. Took a second to realize the .cfg was no longer needed, and that it didnt go inside the streakdroid folder. Reading is fundamental lol. Once I realized what could have been causing my Streak to lock at the boot animation, I re-read the directions and did as you said with the .txt in the root, and WA LAA. My baby is smooth as ever! I am very happy, and pleased with all of your work. Continue to keep blazing through with your Roms. Take care!

Guest pjg_pigeon Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Thank you for these instructions, saved my Streak. +1 but restored 1.6.0 to save my streak
Guest stoney1973 Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Great rom, really smooth so far.
Guest anthscorner Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Menu text is black on black background...any solution? Have you loaded any of the status zip files, like gingerbread or black status bar files from xda? Also which launcher are you using? I've been running all versions and only had the black text using one of zips above. (Factory reset and sorted it) Ta.
Guest rockymtnbri Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 (edited) [That is it. You can save this text file as install.cfg] You need to change this line on page one so that it reads 'install.txt' - That is a major change you made to the entire install process and you should bold the text or change its size. This is the first time in a while that I had issues with a build. Google app failures, ADW Launcher errors, and some other failures made me think that the build was bad. I just took the .cfg file, copied it the root directory, renamed it install.txt, re-applied the new update file, and right now I'm waiting for it to launch - it appears to be stuck on the StreakDroid screen. The biggest problem was with my SD card - it was acting like it was unmounted. Edited January 22, 2011 by rockymtnbri
Guest strvmarv Posted January 22, 2011 Report Posted January 22, 2011 Weird, installed update just like every previous one, booted...everything looked fine. Tried to update Adfree (as mentioned above) "no partition". Tried to launch Root Explorer, fc, gapps, fc, etc. Uninstalled Adfree and Root Explorer, tried to reinstall, download fine but on installation I get an "invalid package" error. Just rebooted, stuck on first Dell logo (never had issues with this before). Am I on track for a factory reset or should I revert to 1.6.0 until the next update?

Not having success right now - may have to flash the amss again if this doesn't work. Edited January 22, 2011 by rockymtnbri
