Guest pjg_pigeon Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 As one of those upgraders who experienced big issues going from 1.6.0 to .1 yesterday so much so that I re flashed my 6.0 nandroid and gave up. Today I can confirm patience is the key. Re flashed 6.1 straight over 6.0 no need for wiping or factory reset's, just reboot and waited five minutes for the home screen to appear. Please note that I am not using any install.txt . Hope this help's others .
Guest cowballz Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 So is it now confirmed that gps no longer works with latest build?
Guest rockymtnbri Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) After buying and running Titanium Backup, I have decided to use the 1.5.1 -> factory reset -> 1.6.1 route. Right now the Streak is going through the reboot process right now and it's sitting at 1.5.1. Now I'm going to flash 1.6.1 and LEAVE IT ALONE until done. Update: It worked! From now on I'm going to wait one day until I upgrade next time. Edited January 23, 2011 by rockymtnbri
Guest offthahorse Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 everything is running very smoothly for me. Bought my gf a white streak, put both our white and black streak on 1.6.1 and downloaded oovoo... works very well, very smoothly, BUT when we make a video call, sound doesnt work...
Guest brokenpixel Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 I get Toolbox! on the lines that mount the /system as R/W and then later back to R/O. thoughts? It's BusyBox missing, I get the same somewhere else. And can't install busybox it hangs at gathering info. Still trying different things and see how it goes.
Guest LorD CLockaN Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 So is it now confirmed that gps no longer works with latest build? Who even said that it's not working?? Busy box is installed
Guest alert_bri Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Does anyone know whether the Smartass governor automatically steps down the CPU speed when the screen is switched off? I'm just wondering whether using SetCPU to impose a screen off profile is necessary... Maybe even less optimal than allowing Smartass to do its own thing? Cheers Brian
Guest RSullivan Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 For those that are running into problems, just try a simple reflash of 1.6.1 first before you do anything drastic. I did the fac reset -> 1.5.1 -> 1.6.1 option and everything was running great until this morning when just about every process on the phone started force closing. Reflashed 1.6.1, everything is working great again.
Guest killerbz Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Great ROM Steve! I read all of the instructions and posts, followed the directions exactly and everything went perfect!
Guest anthscorner Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) So is it now confirmed that gps no longer works with latest build? GPS is definitely working just used navigation on a 160 miles round trip. Edited January 23, 2011 by anthscorner
Guest LorD CLockaN Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 why? because of a battery?? LOL

Guest fards Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 To manually get the hosts file updated In a term su cd /etc rm hosts wget http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.txt -O hosts Should do same thing as the adfree app. I've been tring the non perfmod version today, the init isn't running, so the noop and noatime isnt being used, trying to work out why at the mo

Right now I am getting multiple FCs, especially around Google Processes, so I've done a factory reset once again, and re-applied the 1.6.1 build. Once it reboots I will selectively restore my apps without data. This is the last straw for me around this - I can't lose any more time working on this. One thing I will do is check Use Unknown Apps - I might be trying to restore something that's not in the Market. The real pain is that I have a LOT of apps that I have to restore - I did it manually yesterday and it took a while. Could some problems be with the fact that I have a US AT&T-locked Streak? When the testing for this version occurred, did anyone with my type of Streak test it? One more little thing - the main page STILL states that the install.txt file should be named install.cfg (right after the block that states to create a new file called install.txt). Please change this immediately.

Sorry, I did read your early comment but only half understood what you meant... I thought I should ask for clarification. Maybe this will help my battery life. Holy cow, my battery life prediction in battery Eta has just leaped to over 68 hrs!!!!! Thanks Brian Edited January 23, 2011 by alert_bri

Guest somebody9 Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) fards wroteI've been tring the non perfmod version today, the init isn't running, so the noop and noatime isnt being used, trying to work out why at the moment At first I wasn't sure if this was just my hardware acting up, so I didn't post this - but now that I've downgraded to 1.6.0 I can say that this issue is something I see only in 1.6.1. Here it is: The top two corners of the screen are very bad at registering key presses. For example, pressing the two small compose or options button in Handcent takes four or five tries. Usually when you hit the button it registers the touch as about 4 or 5 centimeter below and instead of opening the menu, selects the first message in your inbox instead. This is the same for some other applications as well. On the homescreen and in multitouch visualizer applications however, all seems to be well. I tried recalibrating my screen in 1.6.1 but to no avail. Today I downgraded to 1.6.0 and it registers touch at the corners perfectly. By far the biggest problem I've been having with 1.6.1 releases is the freeze and lock ups. I know a few other people who've had this problem - although it definitely doesn't seem like the majority of people are experiencing it. My screen randomly becomes unresponsive, except for the top 1/6" which is fine. After a while the whole phone, including the capacitive buttons become dead and only a reboot fixes things. Happens a couple of times a day. Another issue I've had that isn't as important since I'm the only one who seems to be having it is ridiculously low battery life with 1.6.1. I went to sleep last night with 68% battery. I woke up today and the phone is dead. Yes, I checked partial wake lock. No culprits. Also - my 1.6.1 install was after a factory reset, so I didn't have a bunchload of applications. 3G is always switched off. I really like 1.6.1 and what it offers, but I'm afraid for a lot of us, 1.6.1 just isn't working yet. Maybe too many tweaks in one release? Until then I'm going back to 1.6.0 - that was a good build  Maybe in the excitement of all the PerfMod capabiliities, the Non-Perfmod build has been ignored. Some us just want a stable, reliable and quick build and aren't that concerned with 2000+ on QA. Note: I was running the NON-perfmod version of 1.6.1. When I had perfmod enabled my device would freeze ever hour or two. Edited January 23, 2011 by somebody9
Guest the_didge Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 I was on the last beta build for 1.6.1 but ive decided to do a well overdue wipe(havent wiped since 1.4.something) The issue im having now is that when wiping the device freezes at boot. if i install latest update(1.6.1 official) it still freezes at boot. Ive tried downloading 1.5.1 to start from there but after two download attempts it just cant open the file(strangely one file was 117mb and the 2nd time it was 145mb) Can anyone point me to the right direction to get this back up and running... luckily i still have a nandroid backup of the last 1.6.1 beta
Guest LorD CLockaN Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 (edited) I'm uploading 1.5.1 to another destination.. wait for about 30mins Edited January 23, 2011 by LorD CLockaN

Guest fards Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 nonperfmod should give you 2000 ish in quadrant. Want the dodgy screen down to one app messing about?a keyboard or something?
Guest alert_bri Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Oh, forgot to mention earlier... Love the new battery indicator - very clear percentage text in there. This is definitely the best build yet for me... Stable, fast, responsive and at last superb battery life. I'm in heaven! Thanks to everyone involved for bringing the Dell Streak to it's full potential! Cheers Brian
