questions:

1) when I was struggling w/this install, there was this Android animation when restarting after the Dell circle white logo but now all I get is the Streak Droid by DJ_Steve... I miss the Android animation..., what did I miss / not install? bios?

2) 1.6.1 is speedy & my Quadrant Advanced is 1894 but I'm seeing much higher scores posted? How did you do that? Just a faster SD micro card?

3) this is my 1st Android phone/tablet but I catch on pretty fast & have done my reading. Time to figure what apps/backup program to use. I'm open to any suggestions.

1) Im not sure what you mean by the 'Android' animation... but if you dont have the 'bios' in you install.txt, you'll have the default Dell --> Streakdroid by DJ Steve. 'bios' will change your bootscreen to the dos based bootscreen.

2) nothing to do with your SD card, run it again. I find the result improves after the 1st -2nd run.

3) Nandroid is best for me... you can also try Titanium Backup from the market.

moved to StreakDroid 1.6.1 from stock US Dell unlocked Froyo 2.2 (just received a replacement). This was not without a few challenges and I'm not 100% sure if everything I did was necessary... but it worked.

renamed "Android" folder to "android"

added "streakdroid" folder to "android" (i.e. : android\streakdroid)

added install.cfg to android\streakdroid (i.e. : android\streakdroid\install.cfg)

install.cfg

adwlauncher

volboost

tabmail

bios

added install.cfg to root (same as above) - NOTE : I do NOT have a install.txt file

added update-1.5.1.zip to root

added update-1.6.1.zip to root

- flashed Clockwork

- flash to update-1.5.1.zip

- let it boot all the way

- factory reset (ran streak 4 options with holding both volume keys during boot)

- let it boot all the way again into 1.5.1

- flash to update-1.6.1.zip

- let it boot all the way normally

- battery pull reboot

- enjoy

As installer searches for instal.TXT, not CFG, it has to be txt

1) you need to delete bootanimation.zip from \system\media

2) have you installed setcpu for overclocking it should default to smartass Scaling.

3) Nandroid backups all your system (Rom) and data / Titanium is apps backup with sys data (not the ROM build). ps I always get FC with TB even on app only.

Few apps that does not work for me

1. quickboot

2. reboot in extended widgets not working

3. button remapper not working

I think all this is to do with the reboot being broken when initiated with a software

Any suggestions anyone.

1. Just add bios to your list in install.txt

2. I never add a setcpu and i get 2100 on 3rd try of quadrant

3. i use phonemypc to be able to use my pc from my streak....vitalplayer the best media player i found and Better keyboard so i can set big keys on the virtual keyboard with my big thumbs hihi.

after looking over the install, I realized no options actually were applied

I went back & added install.txt to both locations (root\ & android\dellstreak\)

now I see the bios screen & Android animation (no StreakDroid DJ_Steve)

but thank you DJ_Steve

i'll play around with Nandroid & Titanium

thank you for the suggestions

So I went back & reloaded 1.6.1 with no problems & it seemed to take, keeping my settings! (I linked gmail & google voice)... interesting...

wow... DJ_Steve really makes the Dell Streak a fun device! Very responsive!

Speaking of backups: Honestly, I usually don't like the idea of backing up stuff unter OS version x and restoring it under OS version x+y. So I usually don't backup stuff (exept for personal data of course).

When updating from Steve's builds to a newer version, I usually don't need to factory reset, and after updating everything is still there. Exept for my "Desktop", i.e. I have a completely emptied launcher and need to arrange widgets and desktop icons again.

What exactly would I need to backup (using Titanium backup) if I want to restore nothing else than desktop icons and widgets to its original state after an OS update?

Is anyone having issues with bluetooth since upgrading to 1.6.1? I have tested a few headsets used previously on DJ Steves previous roms and none of them seem to work. I downgraded to 1.6.0 and they all work fine. Is there a new bluetooth stack in 1.6.1?

I had to remove all bluetooth devices(long press on device) then unpair. Reboot phone, and they should all be gone, then pair each device. The only lingering problem I have is bluetooth voice dialing which locks up. I have posted a logcat file in a previous post.

Voice dialer HF on the market (paid app) works well in the interim. It prompts with voice through the headset, the only thing is that it is "listening" through the microphone, but I have found even in the car with the phone a few feet away, it is almost flawless in recognition.

I don't know for sure, as I haven't tried it, but I know in ADW launcher Ex, there is a 'Backup and restore' under the 'ADW Settings'.

Within that menu, you have ADW settings, and Desktop Configuration.

So I would assume that these setting would have to be backed up within your launcher.

I do not know if the other launchers offer this, or how effective they are.

Let us know.

Adw launcher & ex stored the backup config on \sdcard\

I've had issues with restoring desktop config in the past, the Widgets don't load, so I always create my desktops again.

Sounds like a prob that people have with the rebel simcard and 2.2 baseband. What were you using before unlocking the phone?

just flashed to 1.6.1 last night. Very smooth and many bugs from the 1.5 fixed except for the GPS+REBOOT problem.

but thanks Steve.....can't wait for you next release

FYI Gingerbread Keyboard sucks at 140 dpi or lower. Still freaking awesome ROM Steve.

Yes, i thought my problems would be gone after this.

I was using a rebel sim before getting the unlock code.

Never had a problem with texts. Only the phone crashing, and losing signal.

Greetings-

Thank you all for your hard work on this- greatly appreciated.

I just upgraded from 1.5.1 to 1.6.1 following Steve's exact instructions. It doesn't sound like the volboost feature is working on my phone- the sound is exactly the same as it was previous to the flash.

My .txt file reads:

adwlauncher

volboost

tabmail

bios

All of the other features worked (bios, tabmail, adw), but again, it doesn't seem like volboost has done anything.

I brought this up in an earlier version to find out that it is an error on dell's side with the drivers that power the volume. When I originally received my US Streak completely stock from Dell, the sound worked perfectly. After flashing to Steve's mods, the sound level has decreased about 35%. Don't get me wrong, I'm never going back to original, because Steve's mods are amazing, but it would be nice if someone knows a fix to get the sound working as intended  I listen to music with heavy bass, and this sound dampening completely destroys the songs (as the lower frequencies are hit the hardest with a sound level change).

What did you do after unlocking your phone. Go from 1.5.1 to 1.6.1 or original 2.1 to 2.2 or original 2.2 to 1.6.1?

Also did you update your amss?
