Also how do i get it to Enabled USB Host Mode? I have put in my Virgin Dongle and its not done anything. It works on R8, did one yesterday. Have you checked through this thread for the model number. It will be manufactured by someone else, probably Huawei. There is an app with R8 to toggle between host/slave. You must be in host for this to work. I can also recommend Buzing Bees kernel which makes it a little cleaner to switch between host/slave - there's a thread for it..

Guest jonnyspuruk Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 (edited) Hi Has anyone had any joy getting the vodafone(zte) k3520-z dongle working. I have followed all suggestions, have tried removing the virtual cd autorun via command prompts but i cant get the damn thing to work on the vega. Guest bhargav27 Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Ok guys, Need some help here. I've been trying to follow instructions on the first page. But nothing happens(no wireless menu comes up) when I'm at the add account page after selecting Google and press the physical back button for few seconds. Am I missing something ? I've just flashed the Vega with latest r8 Rom. I'm using huawai ec1260 in India. Get blue led blinking after I connect it in host mode. Any help will be much appreciated. Cheers Bhargav
Guest bhargav27 Posted March 14, 2011 Report Posted March 14, 2011 Actually realized that it was because I had disabled the phone apks to save battery. Anyhow no luck with the dongle though.
Guest ali_j Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Looking for some help please! I have got hold of a Huawei e1550 (unlocked). On putting it in the Vega it flashes blue and I get the error searching for networks message. I therefore assume this is because of the autorun cd so I am trying to use Hyperterminal with no luck. Looking at device manager I have two com ports in use: 3G application interface on COM23 and 3G PC UI interface on COM22. When I open COM22 in Hyperterminal I get a blank page. When I open COM23 I get ^RSSI:..... a few times then ^BOOT:... but I can't type anything. Can anyone tell me where i'm going wrong? Thanks in advance
Guest ali_j Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Guys i'm struggling here. Can't understand why the e1550 works on some Vegas and not mine! I've tried reflashing ROMs but no luck. This is the log I get when I insert the dongle in the Vega. Hopefully it makes sense to some people (not me!). Any help would be greatly appreciated :-) 03-16 15:22:38.869 I/dalvikvm( 1705): Jit: resizing JitTable from 4096 to 8192 03-16 15:22:39.009 I/dalvikvm( 1705): Total arena pages for JIT: 11 03-16 Guest simonta Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Morning all. I've got my dongle working fine but when I remove it and plug it back in, I have to go through the setup again to get it working. Any thoughts?
Guest dexta211 Posted March 19, 2011 Report Posted March 19, 2011 Hi all, I've done a bit of searching but can't find anything, so i thought i'd ask. Is it possible to use this method with a Huawei E220 to make calls & send texts using the Modaco R8 rom? Thanks

Thanks Simonta, it would seem my dongle's automount was off when i got it and i had used the switch tool in this thread to turn it on! Working perfectly now

Guest 5miley Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 I have a working, surfing conection via an Huawei E220 3G dongle on my Vega. Details: 1. Installed theMoDaCo Custom ROM for the Advent Vega r7 2. Enabled USB Host Mode (USB Mode --> USB Host (required reboot) 3. Inserted the Huawei E220 USB Dongle (mine was a t-mobile PAYG dongle) 4. If USB Host Mode is enabled, the dongle will flash green, then blue *Interesting bit*: 5a. Go to Settings --> Accounts & Sync --> Add Account 5b. Select 'Google' 5b. Hold down the back button (the physical button) for 2-5 seconds until a 'Wireless Settings' icon appears at the bottom of the screen 5c. Select 'Wireless Settings' 5d. Select '3G Service enabled' 5e. Select 'Data enabled' 5f. Select 'Network Operators' ... You may need to wait 10-30 seconds as the Vega configures itself to read the USB dongle, makes a connection and identifies what providers are available... the light on my USB Dongle went solid blue at this point (if I recall correctly) 5g. Choose your network operator 5h. The Vega notification bar will change to show a "3G" icon, which is animated to show upload/download action; and a signal strenth icon. 6. Ensure WiFi is off and surf to a website... In my case, I got the t-mobile top-up page, which showed me my dongle's phone number and the fact that I had no further credit on my account. When you unplug the dongle, the notification bar will change to a red triable for 'No Service: Selected network unavailable). At this point I don't know whether this is chewing my battery or not when not connected.. as the "No Service" notification does not go away, even though I've disabled '3G Service'. This is my first post here, so if I've posted in the wrong please, let me know and I'll happily move it. Cheers, BB. Hi guys, I get to stage 5f, searching for "network operators" and then the screen stays like this I have used the tool posted a couple of pages back to disable the automount on the E220 dongle Any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance
Guest Genieuk Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 I tried this with my Huawei e169 and t-mobile sim (from my phone, which I have unlimited web), in on MCR r8. I have disabled the cd-autorun using the tool in an earlier post, it seems to be disabled as the drive letter no longer appears for the mini-sd card in windows (I still get a drive letter for the dashboard software in flash - not sure if this is a problem) I get to step 5f, and it finds the t-mobile network (2 of them, one is 3G and the other 2G i think) I select the first (also tried the other one), but after that my notification bar never shows a 3G icon, all i get is normal signal stength bars, and no internet connectivity. I did check the APN and it's showing as general.t-mobile.uk, which it seems to have picked up correctly. Not sure what else I can try, and been rebooting, then plugging in the dongle, rebooting, while its plugged in, clearing the APN etc, but still no 3G icon, only signal bars. Any ideas?
Guest 5miley Posted March 24, 2011 Report Posted March 24, 2011 Finally got my one to work Clear Superuser cache BTW I removed TelephonyProvider.apk and Phone.apk this resulted in "Wireless Settings" going missing so reinstalled both apks

Guest Sanddancer75 Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 Dammit! I've just tried my E1550 again after getting round to disabling the CD-ROM (thanks dimondigital) & it still won't work. I tried rebooting with the dongle in & now my Vega is stuck in a boot loop!
Guest Sanddancer75 Posted March 30, 2011 Report Posted March 30, 2011 I've searched the forum & searched the internet before coming back here. Is the only way to fix the boot loop problem to reflash? This is the 3rd time it's happened to me & I really don't want to reflash the thing again (I just done it over the weekend). If that's the case then I'll just keep the USB port set to slave in future.
Guest wilx01 Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 Finally got my Vodafone E160 working. I haven,t done the stop CD. I go through accounts and sync and set up there, then do a manual search for the vodafone 3g network. Then I go to the AP and change to my AP ( at mine is an old payand go that doesn't expire) ap is pp.internet user and password web. then I use quick settings and turn 3g on. If I don't do the accounts and syn first it just keeps telling me ap not set
