Guest robot1000 Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 One thing I don't get is how do you intiate and access the maps to see where your phone is located if you have lost it? Unlike, Wavesecure, there appears to be no internet control? So the only way to access the map is with another smart phone? Not quite, you can use any phone to receive the message and type the URL onto the PC. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it lets you know the coordinates of the phone, so that might be easier then typing the long url
Guest Niks10 Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Are you on a sim only contract? I did that but it still doesn't pop up asking for my email address :/ Yes, I am on SIM Only contract. After my first install which gave me 7 day trail I flashed a different ROM (Which I was going to do any way). On that Facebook German page, I also "liked" that page, don't know if that has anything to do. And as mentioned just download using the QR code and it worked for me.

Wavesecure is not so secure because it is web based, therefore you have a risk of someone cracking the server and screwing your phone or locating you. Here is an interesting article about it. With theft aware you receive the coordinates ONLY per SMS on your wife's/friend's cellphone, you can then see them on a map. You can uninstall Theft Aware only with ABD I have read.

Interesting but it seems the loophole is already disabled by Wavesecure and it looked like a hacker would have to guess your IMEI number. I've used wavesecure a couple of times and it has help me retrieve the phone on both occassions. I guess Theft Aware is another good alternative but I prefer a web interface.
Guest vinesh chauhan Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 if its rooted try uninstall with titanium backup I managed to uninstall via titanium backup
Guest Matchstick Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 I managed to uninstall via titanium backup If you don't have titanium backup there's instructions here on how to remove it http://forum.theftaware.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=266 Seem rather random who manages to get a free license and who doesn't as I've tried it with 2 different T-mobile sims and phones and neither's qualified ;)
Guest dwl99 Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 if its rooted try uninstall with titanium backup Thanks, worked OK
Guest wakaru Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 For those having problems to get their copy of Full Theft Aware 2.0 activated for FREE: I downloaded it from the market via WiFi, and it did not work at first. Uninstalled following the ADB commands from the above link. Then downloaded again using the Barcode scanner on the image from the Facebook link posted above, and this time it worked straightaway. A pop-up message from T-Mobile will ask you for your email. I am on a T-Mobile contract, but It should work on Virgin and Orange as confirmed by other users (though in this case I guess your phone should be "roaming" to show T-Mobile). I hope this helps ;)
Guest Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Keep trying guys, I had almost given up and went into the app after installing (for the third time) this morning and a notification popped up mentioning the Deutsch T-mob offer and asking for an e-mail address. Once I put it in it upgraded to the full version and sent me an e-mail with an invoice number for reinstalls. I tried first with a rooted install a couple of days ago but it didnt upgrade itself. Tried a non system install as someone said earlier in this thread yesterday and still nothing. Tried another non system install his morning and went same as before, but went into the app a few hours later and the notice popped up straight away. Remember the offer ends today tho. P.S. I used the QR code from facebook, but I have no idea if that makes any difference.

Just want to make sure, because I might re-flash my device tonight.

You get an invoice number with the email, as well as a statement saying the licence "purchased" is bound to your IMEI, therefore I guess you can re-flash without a problem.
Guest Magnets Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 (edited) Just tried reinstalling a few times, not having any luck with this. Having the license tied to your IMEI (so if you need a warranty replacement, it's gonna cost you another £10) is a massive turn off for not buying it. Edited January 19, 2011 by Magnets
Guest Rotmann Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 (edited) You get 30% off when changing the device but it's still pretty expensive. But then again WaveSecure is 20 bucks a year. Edited January 19, 2011 by Rotmann
Guest richardtkemp Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Worked no problems for me on T-mobile UK. Thanks OP!
Guest cgk Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Hum.. odd, can't seem to get it to register - oh well, I like it and will have to buy it!
Guest Lifeforms Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Couldn't get anywhere with it, so i removed it. Going into menu/settings/location and security and selecting "Use secure credentials" allowed me to unallow the whatever of it, then i could uninstall via the normal uninstalling way.
Guest nre Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 Thanks for the tip, worked find for me using a spare T-mobile PAYG sim I had lying around ;)
Guest nre Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 (edited) I see that the promotion has been extended to the 28th Feb now. Edit - now changed again - sorry folks looks to be finished! I just put in the T-mobile SIM, downloaded the Theft Aware demo from the market, installed choosing 'phone is rooted' and 'install in system folder' and then the T-mobile offer appeared inviting me to put in my email address. Did this twice in 2 SFs (mine and my Dad's) and worked both times. Didn't use the facebook page / barcode at all... Edited January 20, 2011 by nre
Guest Magnets Posted January 20, 2011 Report Posted January 20, 2011 I see that the promotion has been extended to the 28th Feb now. Where did you read that? The facebook page seems like some "top deal" page and it's now changed to SHOPGATE (28 feb)
