Shame about Facebook. How would one search for compatible games and apps ?. As I am clueless on the names keyword searching will be useless.

Want things like - all in one email, pdf reader, document reader/editor, good web browser, music player, and a bunch of good games.

Want games like Angry Birds format, Can be played for 2 minuets or 2 hours.

Can downloads be looked at just San Francisco compatible ?.

EDIT - Looked around google for images of each colour as originally suggested. They white can chip but grey can wear ?. If I get the grey and put a full cover over it (If I can find one other than the 3 on ebay) it will be OK ?. This is the only thing keeping me from getting ATM. I want the colour to atleast stay without nay chips and wear if possible. Years down the line when it comes to selling on I'd like to sell as a near mint bundle.

May have to get the jelly case at £7.50 as its either that or a sock style case. Also need to get a screen protector. Was thinking about that mirror effect one.

Are the jellys good ?. They are clear so colour Of phone would not matter I assume. So ultimately it would not matter the colour I go for ?.

All I've seen on the Orange website is either Grey or White. HMZX - I honestly didn't see that the jelly had a screen protector.

Again, I'm a little reluctant to buy the Jelly as previous phone cases have cost me under £4. But I suppose as there is such a small amount of SF compatible cases I will have to buy one. End of the day it will help protect the phone.

Are market stalls stocking alternatives or is the market really this small ?.

yeah, its comparatively tiny!

but i have an leather iphone case with a front cover and that works fine

try your local market (the ones that have stalls)

try some covers

Thanks again HMZX.

Phone has now been ordered in Grey, just waiting for email confirmation. Delivery should be February 2nd. No idea what method Orange use to deliver. If its normal Royal Mail parcels I will be lucky to get the phone before March starts.

Parcels can take so long up here you'd think we where on our own island and not the huge fish town.

Going to keep looking for a case. I do like the jelly and will probably get it anyway but I'd like to see if there is something different. Ideally with a design, every mobile that I have had has been in a bog standard case, normally the official one.

Unrelated to your queries about the phone, be careful expecting the cash back from Orange via topcashback. I ordered mine and everything was successful however orange have not reported my cash back through so as it stands I could end up waiting ages for my £12.00.

I got my SF on Friday and have already put a 2.2 Jellyfish ROM on it.

I have had a few company's do that. I will just push through claims with proof of purchase. Not a big deal to lose it but ATM every bit of money helps and £121 will help me.

My phone is now bought through Orange. With cashback I will be paying £96.88. I'm happy with that.

Thanks Lostone for the info about E71 cases. I will give them a look up on feebay and see if I can find one to my style that can easily be altered to fit the SF.

Apart from the big bar across the middle of the face and the volume bars needing a slot cut are there any other needed alterations ?.

EDIT - If I do go down the route of buying and modifying a E71 case can a SF screen protector be bought cheap ?. Seems that value wise its better to get 6 covers as individuals are more expensive. Surely there is somewhere that sells them under £1 each ?.

thanks for the continuing information. I appreciate the list of issues to. Also like the in-depth problems as it can keep me aware and to hold my expectations. I know I may seem like I am expecting to much from the phone but so long as it can do majority of tasks well I would be happy.

From the little I understand, would a ROM/App etc fix something like the audio through headphones or is it the hardware ?. I would use it as my portable music player and would like it to atleast sound clear. I walk everywhere so the MP3 is a must for me.

The comments on Angry Birds - would upgrading the phone to Android 2.2 help ?. As some would guess I am clueless on all the tech side of things. The only "custom" things I own are a Media centre xbox to be more appealing visually and a old PSP to have custom themes. Nether where done by myself and when I go looking through the menus to customize I am lost.

Angry Birds (on a Galaxy S) has been my only game played on a mobile phone since early 2000's. As its my first I am using it as a standard to help me understand playability. Is it really that buggy on the phone or is a software fix available ?. I'm not expecting the Galaxy S quality but to atleast be playable.

Any other games that are "big and popular" that can be played well on the SF ?. I was hoping for a varied bunch of free games and then I would look into buying a few. I am thinking that the phone may be good for a resource management style game.

I have also just started facebook - Would the phone play the games through FB or atleast games of the same quality/depth ?. I really don't like the idea of having to pay real money to progress though.

Thanks

Learn to search. Answers about games and pouches are already documented on respective threads, with reviews, pictures and so on. I know it's a little intimidating at the beginning but try it. Also read the manual when your phone comes.

The only thing i did(i dont no if any of the other guys on here had this prob)was to trim a little off one of the plastic clips that holds the phone in the case because it kept catching the volume button 1 min job, the case fits rearly snug(thanks to prufrock for the link)

Hello all

I am planing to get a San Francisco as from what I've read and the little I understand it seems a great bit of kit. Planing to get it from Orange at £109, through topcash for £12.12 money back. Any better way ?.

For what I want out of a phone - MP3 player - WiFi - Web browser that can take majority of sites and plug ins - Access to free and wide range of apps and play a game like Angry Birds without major issues the SF is just what's needed. I understand not to expect this to fly through everything but will it be atleast bearable in each task ?.

Reading the guides on the forums I should be able to remove all the orange apps and put on anything I want, I can help its performance and fix any issues it may have software side of things ?. Does each colour have any differences other than the case ?. What about the screen type. I have read a little but cant see anything about it on the Orange listing for the SF.

Even typing this and looking back at the guides I'm getting more confused and feel way out of my depth. For the hassle I will get into is it worth getting the SF and essentially removing all the factory installed software and replace the lot with the custom files on here ?.

I feel bad asking when there are guides above me but I would appreciate validation and confirmation on what I want/expect. I feel I am building this up to being such a huge thing for me to do and I am nervous as heck !. I feel dizzy when I try to think where to start on reading as I just cant absorb anything.

No joke. The idea of all the little things like - upgrading the Android software, removing the orange branded tosh, putting on a good email app, getting some free games, a good calender app, figuring out ROM'S, trying to up its performance ....

Just a huge list in my mind that makes any confidence drop.

Apologies again. I have read the best I could on the guides. I don't mean to seem like I am expecting the job done for me but some simple advice and validation on my impressions. I just hope the above mess I've typed is atleast readable. ;)

if you are using the phone for music and wifi then there are several things u need to consider first of all if you listen to music like i do always on well mine was from about 9:30-2:pm my battery would be dead and i would need to recharge it. as for wifi this also kills battery quickly. the wifi issue i experience it quite bad for example if i am downloading something and i put the phone down if the screen turns off and then i turn it on again the download will cancel as it doesnt have wifi when the screen is switched off well that is wat i gather. the phone is more smoother when you take of all the orange apps and personalise it better, however i am thinking of selling my SF and getting a Motorola defy have you looked into this. the battery life is longer and as far as i am aware it is getting offical 2.2 and it does not have any issues with hardware. oh and another thing if you are going to use the SF for games that require you to use 2 fingers on the phone you will really hate it as the phone is terrible with multi touch it glitches there are videos of this on youtube apart from these issues the phone is decent for the price.

Music is for things like and hours journey each way to the doctors. Wifi would be either 30mins at night in bed or for a quick look while on a video game console. I don't plan to make the phone my primary source for each task but to utilise it as an extension.

If I can get less than 2 hours music, 1 hour Internet, small amount of gaming and a quick phone call or odd txt/email I'm fine. I accept that I will not get the world in both battery and performance.

Phone should be here tomorrow so I can being the fun/stressful time of learning and changing it.

Agree the phone is decent for the price but it's at least twice the price of the SanFran.

^^ Agreed. For more money most products will be better in some way. Simply put for the cost the SF is incredible and has no rival in its band.

Phone has arrived. Before I put anything in the phone, I was thinking of putting the orange sim in and just having a play with the basic stuff.

I have read in one of the books that I can get £30 free credit for porting my old number over. If I call 02 to get my PAC and transfer to Orange that will be classed as porting ?. Putting the Orange sim in now to play will not mess anything up in that sense ?. Reading through the £10 mandatory credit I have with Orange is already on the Sim ?. No way to have the credit to sell/give on ?.

Settings wise playing with the basic set up on the Orange sim and then figuring out how to port my 02 number over will still be OK ?. I assume when it comes to figuring out the ROMS etc I would need to wipe the phone ?.

Just wanted some final clarification just incasae I mess anything up at any strange. Boy this phone is impressive to even hold let alone turn on.
