Really.

So you are saying a 4" samoled is better than the 5" screen real estate that the Streak has?

Seriously?

Look, I bought this device because of the screen size.

The resolution and contrast are superb for a hand held device and honestly comparing it side by side with an IPhoney4 the differences are so minimal as to be meaningless in practice, that means the difference between our screens and the Galaxy S are even less given that they are same resolution (and again the Galaxy S has 20% LESS screen space at the same resolution doesn't it?). If you are going to get all up in arms about such minor differences that you would prefer a screen with 20% less display area in order to be able to display fonts clearly in sizes that require a magnifying glass to see then by all means get yourself one of these 4" super screens and move on.

Your argument about the superiority of samoled over what we have in our Streaks is pretty weak as a practical argument, as I and others are pointing out the differences are not there in practical terms and only really exist as exercises in specification bragging rights.

And as we all know such exercises are meaningless in the real world as specification differences such as this aren't nearly as dramatic as the fan bois of them would have us believe.

no one is talking about real estate, also streak and samsung gs has same resolition , just drop the subject

I guess most of us here are not interested in the 7" screen since it is not pocketable, however the observation stand that we may buy one as a companion but the drawback are

-smaller battery size compare to GTab

-small screen res (note you can reduce the res for better readability as needed but not the other way round)

-sAmoled may by hyped but it seem to have more vibrant colours and outdoor readability and also uses less battery juice (not a deal breaker though)

-no phone feature, again, it should be added and it is up to the consumer to decide on their choices if they want it or not

-trim the bezel fat to make the device smaller and sleeker if possible

so if are going to release a 'new' current tablet that has some of these drawbacks compare to the GTab which is already release a couple of months ago, you are playing catch up. Bad move by Dell IMO.

Completely agree. Dell is just too rush the the sake of releasing the 7" tablet. However, this device doesn't make sense to most of users. 4G network + 7" inch display with only around 3 hours battery life just don't make much sense for most of mobile users. Mobile users want longer battery life and 5" inch is the max size. Home users want large screen with high resolution, don't care too much about the 4G connectivity. When Apple release new products, most of existing Apple users want to upgrade. Here most of 5" streak users don't have that desire. That's the problem with DELL.

Think about what if DELL release a 2nd generation 5" Streak with new CPU, and 4G chp, better battery life. That probably would be better. If DELL fell it's 5" inch is not that success due to the size, they could make it smaller(say 4.3-4.5 inch).

This 7" tablet just completely making no sense. Soon we will see price drop because not many will buy it. See, today's price is already $149 with 2 year contract.

+1, the exact point I was making.

Glad to see we are on the same page.

Sure it was, you just choose to pretend lack of understanding.

Probably because it doesn't fit your narrative. ;)

Best of luck with that. The narrative you were trying to make that is.

U are an idiot , no one was ever talking about screen size, u made up your own topic to argue about, hence your point was never made. start reading, maybe from the beginning, not one time was real estate an issue, were talking about QUALITY of the screen not SIZE.

YOU:Really. So you are saying a 4" samoled is better than the 5" screen real estate that the Streak has? Seriously?

Me: no one is talking about the size of the screen

Stop being a tool.

My post was about contrast and resolution, the screen size was introduced to point out the REAL difference as opposed to the manufactured one based on manufacturer specs and sales pitches. I used screen size to point out the ludicrousness of dumping all that screen space for the "benefits" of a marginally higher contrast ratio.

But don't let your myopic reading skills get in the way of making a fool of yourself cowballs, though I suspect you'll keep running with this one as you did with your posts about what in all honesty is a marginal difference in image quality.

im starting to learn towards only wanting phones or tablets with Gorilla Glass because of the feeling of it. Little things like that make big difference for people including myself.

A big +1 on that comment

As for Amoled, Samoled, led or whatever.....I really really don't care what the screen is made of, how much juice it takes to run it...All I worry about is what my eyes make of what i see.

I'm happy with my 'Proper' Streak (5) and really don't give a sh1t about what Samsung, HTC or any iDevice have to offer.

If i see the 7 and the screen looks crap then my money stays in my pocket, end of arguement.

If i see it and like it, then i pays my money, it's my choice and certainly not for anyone else to try and say "oh, but the screen on the HTCsampad is better" thats YOUR opinion, thats what YOUR eyes tell you, mine may see different.

I for one love the larger 'real estate' of the 5, it runs as it should on whatever ROM i decide to run, it's there to do whats expected of it and it does so as it was designed to do.

Yes, there's those who dislike the large screen Phones, and those who want bigger. But is the 7 a Phone??

The BIGGEST selling point for me will be if it's only exclusive to T-mob in the UK. If it is then it'll be a total no-go as i rate T-mob lower than thieving lowlife junkie scum (& thats really really really low)

If you see me and don't like what device i have, please keep comments to yourself, as a size 12 in the mouth sometimes offends ;)

Tim..... a Streak 5 Fan, who really doesn't care about what device anyone else slates or rates!!

and the samoled has perfect blacks, almost looks as if the screen if off if theres no picture

Thats cause it is, There is no backlighting in OLED displays, hence if its displaying black, the pixel is just off, and just as black as if the phone was powered off. That being said, I work with cell phones day to day, and granted that the screens stay on almost 24/7, the S-Amoled screens on the SGS's have some TREMENDOUS burn-in since July, our LCD's really dont.

Worth pointing out, the 800x480 LCD in the Streak isn't bad, I've seen much much worse, It might not be blindingly bright and Oversaturated like the OLED screens, but I'm certainly happy with it.

Obviously all of us want more power, but the 65nm Snapdragon is plenty for now... The 7" can have a super high resolution AMOLED, it can have 3.0, it can have a Tegra 2, it can have 2 gigs of ram, it can have a super-thin bezel.... But in the end, if they are really slow to push OS updates, and if the phone has a touch screen digitizer like in the 5", the experience will be so bad from that alone, that it's not worth purchasing... I wouldn't recommend the 5" streak to anyone because of the touchscreen alone.
