Cant wait to see if a DL update via phone is available.

The Modaco Revolution has come, but will their Stock 2.2 ROM have the bloatware again?

Ok, so what advantages would there be to an official 2.2 over the ones found here? It's not as if Flash is going to work and one of the main reasons I binned 2.1 was all the god awful Orange muck that got pre-loaded. If this official one is real, then I bet that'll be bogged down too..

If we have already got a custom 2.2 rom, how do we properly update it? Do we need to get the stock rom again and download it from there?(to get bbc iplayer from the market)

As soon as it's out Seb will probably make an update.zip so all you have to do is to apply it from recovery :P

As of this time ^ @orangehelpers just replied that they're still waiting for updates re: 2.2

I was under the impression that the official android iplayer application only worked with flash. the SF can't run flash because of the unsupported processor...

i don't think i'll install it

I think we all know the answer to that!

I'm sceptical btw, my sister bought one today and that had 2.1 on it. even if they had changed up to 2.2 surely all current stock sat in a warehouse would still have 2.1 on it anyway?

I suppose it's possible that the older stock has been pushed out to retail stores (I'm guessing here, I don't know how Orange operate). I'm a bit sceptical as well, though it does sound like an update is on the way.

I suppose that if Orange are going public about a 2.2 'model refresh' then StevenHarperUK would be free to enquire internally, and comment externally ... :P

I'm in an orange store right now, the nice lady got one that came in to the store yesterday out of the box, it's 2.1 b10......

i wonder if Orange's strategy is to sell them all as 2.1 and then update them all to 2.2 over the network

Just thinking that because there are so many Blade's already sold and i'm sure if consumers got wind that the 2.2 was on new phones wouldn't they potentially have an issue with customers 'accidentaly' breaking their phones - within the 12 month guarantee and then be able to upgrade to 2.2 with a new phone............this way Orange would lose a fair bit of money im guessing.

If they do a 2.2 network update then they don't get any returned 'faulty' phones (saving them money and resourses)

a possibility anyways :D ............then again my tech 'know how' isn't the greatest :P

Hmm seems like people not knowing their info. Flib...even if we got a 2.2 Orange rom we all know you would strip it down and treat us to extra features. You're stuck for life!

while I'd like to see a 'offical' 2.2 rom as much as anyone, Id think Orange would of made more of a song and dance about it than to just start shipping new stock with 2.2

And also, I'm not going to be around for the next few days, I'm off to MWC tomorrow, and then back to the USA after that.... but Im not the only one who can make update zip files......

Finally! I can retire :P

You know that will never happen

As for Official 2.2. . . . .Can't see it being much difference from the 2.2 ROMs Seb has already released :D

Apart from having a RIL that will (hopefully) work as expected in Europe, and a kernel with whatever extras we dont know about....

I'm still very sceptical about the whole thing, why would Orange/ZTE spend money on the upgrade... if you have a Blade, they already have your money, and more than likely spent it... updating your OS is not likely to make you spend more money on thier network, and will dis-encourage you to buy a new device... from a business point of view Im not at all convinced....

still I'd like to be proven wrong, with a 'perfect' rom

Hmm, I highly doubt that anything coming out of Orange will be "perfect" rom. Look at our 2.1, that's proof enough

Well, no, keeping users isn't their goal. But a Froyo-enabled device at this price is pretty good deal for anyone, and such, Froyo will make more purchase for them. And if it's already done, why not release it to current owners too? :P

Orange are probably downloading a custom ROM from MoDaCo, re-packing/re-compiling and releasing it as "Oficial 2.2 ROM" - LOL

Guest shadowninty

Of course, Orange will issue an OTA update

a 40mb download - imagine the data charge profit from innocent users! :P
