Apart from having a RIL that will (hopefully) work as expected in Europe, and a kernel with whatever extras we dont know about....

I'm still very sceptical about the whole thing, why would Orange/ZTE spend money on the upgrade... if you have a Blade, they already have your money, and more than likely spent it... updating your OS is not likely to make you spend more money on thier network, and will dis-encourage you to buy a new device... from a business point of view Im not at all convinced....

still I'd like to be proven wrong, with a 'perfect' rom

I hope they are a little more visionary than that. Consumer satisfactions should be a high priority matter and for a "little" company like ZTE as a brand they really need their product buyers to feel safe with them. A continued support for products available for 4 months is not too much to ask :P

But that's me being thoughtful, I don't have a multi million dollar company anyway ^^

Could be down to ZTE rather than Orange, now that they have 2.2 why bother sending more out with 2.1

why give away something for free that you can charge for.....

Again, I do want to see an official 2.2, but I know a far bit about how OEM's work.. you *NEVER* get anything for free from them... even when they say it's free there is a hidden cost...

Plus you have to factor in that Orange have to go through a huge testing/certification process everytime there is an update for a handset, they have already done it 3 times (that we know of) for a 2.1 handset...

With all the noise and focus on 2.3 and 3.0 right now, using a 'wow we have a 2.2 handset' marketing is not the best move...

still it is MWC next week, we will see what that brings us...

Last year at this time was when the Blade was first announced... as a 1.6 device :P

also which courier companies even deliver on saturday mornings? cost a lot extra doesn't it?

[guess]

I assume how it works is most companies don't have a contract with their courier to deliver saturdays because it costs extra. They allow you to pay a large one off charge to have something delivered on a saturday. I assume Orange have a contract for saturday deliveries and do it as standard - they won't be paying £20 per delivery at weekend vs £5 on a weekday. They'll just have a more expensive contract that works out to say £6 per delivery or something.

[/guess]

Or they could just be using someone like Home Delivery Network deliver on Saturdays as standard. Can't remember who Orange use (wasn't HDN though) but mine arrived on a saturday.

It occurs to me that if ZTE upgrade the Blade to 2.2, that is what Orange will supply.

The other thing that makes me think it could be likely is Argos. The Argos catalogue features the San Francisco quite prominently and it is a new catalogue, yet there is no stock. ( The odd one appears but I suspect these are returned units.)

If, all of a sudden, Argos starts showing stock on Wednesday then we can assume there might be legs in the rumour that ZTE have upgraded their device.

So do I. And I hope this official UK rom will fix the issue with the signal strength and disconnections with wifi enabled for some people. Still haven't been able to fix it yet myself :P

would be great to find the fix and integrate into your rom or integrate your changes in the official rom ;-) . But i love your rom and dont want to switch!

I honestly can't believe that you listened to the salesperson. A salesperson tells you something completely unexpected and out-of-the blue, something that defies logic and you believe it completely.

I don't mean to have a go at you, but seriously come on man.

Anyway, have you tried giving orange a ring back? If you got the name of the salesperson, ask if you can speak to them.

Just play it as: 'im really dissappointed I was expecting Android 2.2, can I have a handset updated to 2.2 from you, or will you update this one for me?'

Worst they can do is say no (or lie to you again).

Now that term 'Shipping'!!!

To me that means being sent from the manufacturers or a distribution centre.

The first we heard of this was yesterday, so it seems obvious to me that any units being delivered right now will be from stock, not from a new shipment. I would think it could take several days before any new units start appearing and then who knows how much old stock orange still have. We can be sure they wont be dumping them.

Going back to my earlier post, I will wait until Argos gets their new stock.

To those who suggested 2.2 wont be put on the Blade, I would refer you to Pauls review video where he states that he has heard it will get a Fryo update.

Here is an interesting item I found whilst browsing. If you read the last sentence, it certainly sugests the Blade will have 2.2 as standard:-

"The largest wireless service provider in Philippines, SMART is about to launch an innovative product called Netphone, at the Barcelona MWC. This product has its heart at the social networks. Its will use IP based communication for most of the transactions. Netphone™ is not a standalone application, but instead it’s a fully customized and face lifted firmware installed on a re-branded handset. It’s built on top of Android 2.2 and SMART plans to launch it initially on ZTE Blade. ZTE Blade is also known as the 'Orange San Francisco' in UK."
