Guest Darkman1969 Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 This may be a silly question, but, can this method be used with the Acer Stream? I am looking for a way to get Android 2.3 on mine. I can live without the Acer GUI if that helps. Regards

Guest Maritz Posted August 10, 2011 Report Posted August 10, 2011 Hello Dario, Thanks for all the instructions on how to root your Acer Liquid. I have had mine Since January 2011 and have been on the fence on whether or not to root. Lately i have run out of space for apps. I have moved as many a I could with the apps 2 sd that is included in the froyo update. The main reason I decided to root is because of the ability to move more apps to the sd card. I rooted today with out any problem and flashed froyometal which is great. However I can not get the A2SD app to work. I have followed the steps that are posted in the ultimate liquid thread with regard to the A2SD app. When i run the A2SDGUI app I get a window that pops up saying: "Could not start for one of these reasons: Phone is not rooted (I double checked in Malez and the status is ROOTED)A2SD scripts could not be foundNo EXT partition found. (I followed the steps that are posted about how to create partitions.Any thoughts?? Liquid E rooted running android 2.2 Acer_LiquidMetal_1.000.23_EMEA_GEN1
Guest Liquid E Ferrari Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 You have to flash it with fastboot :) Any guides? I`m very stupid with it~ sorry~
Guest Dario93 Posted September 5, 2011 Report Posted September 5, 2011 Maritz, you'll have to wait for a FroyoMetal update to have Apps2SD fully working :)
Guest DesertF0x Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 I have tried installing the revover via windows with easy installer and zip and via linux with zip version on my Acer Liquid E. Every thing is successful but I always end up with this exclamation point logo when I try to boot into the recovery. Any Ideas?
Guest jensma Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 (edited) Hi there! I want to flash my firmware and got a noobish question :( I have already installed malez recovery and my Liquid E is on 2.2 stock firmware. This thread says "Custom ROMs are always in "update.zip" format. So just follow these brief steps:" I just can't find any custom firmware named update.zip oO Do I have to rename the file I downloaded? Thanks in advance & thanks for this great thread! PS: I'm quite cautious flashing new firmwares to mobile phones since I bricked my last mobile phone while doing it -_- Edited September 11, 2011 by jensma

OK, I have found the solution ... on new liquids delivered with 2.2 you should not do the final reboot, but just power off by taking off the battery because other wise the recovery is replaced by original again.

The best 2.2 based Rom is LCR-F2 (for me the battery last 24h using 5 apps constantly connected and 3g always on,4% drain/h). My wife Liquid (256MB) with the same rom but less apps, last 36/40 h. I tested some 2.3 based rom like MIUI and Liquid Next, but battery drain is eccesive (at least 15h), in the same condition! Edited September 23, 2011 by Pi3rluigi
Guest lelouchlee Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 after flashing a new rom into acer liquid metal, do i need to do anything else to make it stable? i have had many problems with rooting in the past so im a bit sceptical but i managed to pull through to the end and rooted my device... btw, im considering to flash liquidnext onto my phone, so a quick step by step guide from you could go a long way to avoid bricking my phone... can you help, please? :)
Guest krovatka Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 What a great set of instructions. Thankyou. I have posted a link back to your page 1 on the Australian 'Whirlpool' Liquid Metal forum (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1580654&p=46) I hope you do not mind!
Guest styjp Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 4- How to flash a custom ROM As you can see,on this forum there are a lot of threads talkin' about these "custom ROMs"... Let's see what the hell are these ROMs,making a comparison: -Stock ROM: A stock ROM is the "firmware" you have on your phone when you buy it. These are its disadvantages: -Non-rooted -A lot of pre-installed bloatware (usually you don't need it) -Slowness in many simple operations -No overclock and many others... If you want to boost your phone's performances, you should flash a custom ROM which has these privileges: -Support from the community and the developers -A lot of free space and RAM,due to the clean up from all the bloatware -Increase of speed -OverClock in almost all the ROMs -Root and busybox already included And many many others :D Now,let's see how to install a custom ROM on the phone: Custom ROMs are always in "update.zip" format. So just follow these brief steps: 1- Download the .zip file and put it on your SD card 2- Go into Malez Recovery 3- Go in "Wipe Menu" and perform a "Wipe ALL"----> this will erase all your data 4- Return to main menu and go under the "Flash/Test Menu" 5- Select "Flash zip from SDcard" 6- Select your .zip file and press Home button to start flashing process 7- Once finished, reboot your device and enjoy :D Notes: 1-If an error appears when you select the zip,try to use "Flash zip from Sdcard (no sign check)" 2-The flashing process will erase all your data,be aware of this 4.1- How to flash a .bin file As requested from many users of this forum, i'll post a clear and brief guide about flashing bins on our beloved devices. So, lets start with the first step! 1- Download this tool: Acer A1 DL TOOL and the drivers from Acer's support site , then install them; 2- Extract the zip file into Desktop 3- Move the .bin file in the ACER_A1_Bin subfolder placed into A1_DL_Tool_[intra][single]_v3.100_20091027 folder 4- Connect your phone (it must be turned ON) to your PC 5- Run the “ACER Download Tool [single] executable (If you're using Vista/7 you must run it in compatibility mode, with administrator privileges) 6- Click the BROWSE button and search for the .bin file you previously put into ACER_A1_Bin folder 7- If you're not using .bin files provided by Acer, you may incurr in the INCORRECT MD5 alert. Just don't care about it and proceed to the following step. 8- Click START, and remember, DO NOT stop the flashing process, DO NOT unplug your device, or you'll have a very expensive and NOT WORKING piece of plastic and steel on your desk. Hope this will be useful! What does the name of a .bin file means? We can divide the name of a .bin file into 3 parts: Take 4.003.14_AAP_FET as an example. Part 1: 4.003.14,that means the version number of the ROM Part2: AAP. It stands for the region the bin is intended for. So: AAP= Asia/Pacific, EMEA= Europe, etc. This also will affect languages included. Part3: Optional, Development code. GEN1/GEN2/CUS1, it doesn't make any difference. Part4: FET. It stands for the telecom company code. For example, FET is a taiwanese company, VFIT is Vodafone Italy,ROGERS/FIDO stands for the two Canadian operators,etc.. Also this is optional. Dario93 Idownloaded 2 different bin files but my phone gets stuck on user_init.. Then I just unplug it and everythings back as it was.. This is not the first time I try to flash a bin but it's the first time im having such an issue.. What can I do?? thnx!
Guest ozfunghi Posted November 8, 2011 Report Posted November 8, 2011 (edited) Hi, i'm new to this and bought a Liquid E S100 (Android 2.2 / Kernel 2.6.29 / Build Acer_LiquidE_4.0006.05_EMEA_CUS2 / european) three months ago. Love the phone but the 200 MB internal storage is driving me insane as of late, since i can't even get text messages without being prompted that i'm out of memory. So, i found my way here. I would like to use my 16GB SD card to store ALL my apps, and delete the bloatware. I've also read some roms improve performance as well as battery life, which would also be nice, but not quite as important as the storage issue. I would like to keep all normal features and i also love the Acer UI, though i don't know if it's possible to keep that after rooting etc. But i have a couple of questions before i start, hoping a good samaritan will take 5 minutes to clear some things up. This guide is nice, but not everything is clear. Sometimes things are being listed, without it being clear whether or not they are mandatory or what exactly you're supposed to do with it. So how i understand it: First i need to install malez-recovery. Do i need to install the drivers first? This wasn't clear to me. Then i need to root the phone? Or do i have to make a back-up first (for warranty) and how do i do this? If i want the modifications described above, i should be looking for a custom ROM instead of a BIN file? And am i correct to assume the "bin" files are official Acer "buids" as opposed to custom roms (zip format)? And so, is there a custom ROM with the Acer UI that lets me do the things i described above? Which ROM would you suggest to increase storage to SD, get better battery life and performance (and if possible, keep the UI, though i'll live if it's not possible). Or do i need to install both a ROM zip and a BIN file and what exactly is the difference? Afterwards, will i need to go into recovery each time i want to copy apps to the SD card, or is it automatic after i set it the first time? To be clear, i'm not a complete idiot, i build my own Pc's, i flashed my Wii, i've installed my fair share of shady software cracks back in the day, so if you think it'll be clear as i go along, i'll take your word for it. Yet some things really aren't clear (rom zip - bin file // install drivers necessary? // how & when to make a backup...). Thanks! UPDATE: ok i just installed the drivers on my PC (i found the wiki which said it was necessary) then i installed the malezrecovery on my PC and followed instructions on my pc. After installation on the phone (as instructed on my PC) i followed the next step: booting in malezrecovery (pressing power, vol down and camera buttons). Made a backup from the phone menu in malezrecovery; installed busybox from the menu and rooted the phone from the menu. After booting my phone the regular way, i noticed a new superuser icon on my phone, but it just takes me to a black screen, and i still don't seem to be able to delete the bloatware. UPDATE 2: i guess the Froyometal rom would be what i'm looking for, since it is supposed to be faster, have better batterylife, better camera, Acer UI... and Apps2SD. UPDATE 3: Copied the froyometal rom to my SD card, and installed as discribed under 4.1. Seems to work: free space: 144 MB! Yay. Now need to activate apps2SD and i'm all set. UPDATE 4: Ughh... seems i picked the one ROM where apps2SD is broken... well, that sucks. None of the patches seem to work either. Installed LiquidNext 2.3 gingerbread, now i'm one happy camper.<br> Edited November 9, 2011 by ozfunghi
