How do you get 24 hours without using a battery saving utility?

Even with wifi turned off, I don't think I can get 24 hours.

I use airplane mode with wifi or bluetooth switched on as I need them... Also make sure there are no power hungry widgets running. Just over time, I've learned to keep power use under control.

Cheers

Yes, I am experiencing that too. At first I would try to turn on the screen, but then I realized that I just had to wait. It's not always though. I wonder if maybe I'm covering up the light sensor by accident. Really easy to do.

have tried and tested if its a light sensor issue...it isnt....for me this delay is all time...pretty annoying sometimes...you know u are getting a call but you can do anything...feeling of helplessness...LOL

Awesome! Saves me the hassle of resetting everything. Last one. Do you use Gopus battery meter? I love it but don't want to risk any instability. I know Steve mentioned that he removed it because of some issues. Not sure if that is still a problem. Thanks.

Im using Gopu's battery meter and am experiencing no problems with 1.8.1. Everything is real smooth here.

Still having GPS issues here. Its constantly either ON or OFF. Whenever I try to change the status in the menu it simply doesnt work. I then have to turn the phone off and when it reboots up again the GPS is the opposite to what it was before?

Any ideas please? Ive only had this on the last 2 builds...But its damn annoying when you are trying to go somewhere and have to reboot your phone before setting off :(

Ok i installed blank formatted sd card in my internal sd card slot and restarted my phone. Strangely it loads android but i can't get into fastboot or recovery. Fastboot just loads white screen then reboots. As for recovery after specifying i want to go update the zip file it just reboots my streak but can get to streakdroid call and surf net lol.

Where is the problem, why can't i open fastboot?

So far so good...GPS works again (woot) and this all went alot smoother than my first dj_steve update. All the settings xferred over and now that I'm using the streakmod recovery, smooth and silke' experience.

One thing I did have to do was jump from 1.4.6 to 1.5.1 to get the GPS to work again; once I did that and upgraded to 1.8.1...wunderbar. Only thing... the update banner says 1.7.0 :) ...probably want to fix that ;)

Just one comment... I think changing the look and feel with every new version is a bit annoying.... but keep up the good work on the other pieces!

Honestly, consider regularity in look and feel and branching from that rather than just changing it up with ever rev...the reality is...a phone/device like this isn't a website (hmm, perhaps this is the net web effect). Also, it would be nice if I could change the lcd density on the fly.... but it seems like a recycle is in order (and only messed w/ the properties file once w/ 2.2).

I discovered 240 dpi is bad lcd density....updated install.txt, re-ran the install and BLAM! 120 in no time at all really (turns out 160 is most pleasing). Much, much smoother than it was coming from O2 1.6 to DJ Steve 1.4.6 ... Kudos DJ Steve! :( And the benchmark looks impressive...too bad none of my friends have droid phones to compare it to :'(

One other oddity, again w/ look and feel...it seems like the whole screen has shifted down... as if there's icons that are below where the phone is (and my wallpaper is lower than it was before so the background ironman droid's feet are cutoff). It seems like this might be a bug; perhaps something w/ the way my upgrade went in particular. OH well ;) I'll live with it. Now that GPS works fast again, I'm happy :D

Anyone else get the 'wow that's a big phone' comment when you whip out your streak? :(

Nevermind my questions. Seems that putting the new formated sd card and booting the streak load's last android OS and i let it sit for 30 mins and then booted it. Was able to open fastboot and connect it to the streak then through recovery and installed streakdroid 1.7 and everything works good.

Maybe it's a flook but it works now lol

The stock rom should flash the recovery on each boot.

Glad its working, seems there are lots of sdcards beginning to fail.

Well it's a spare 2gb sdhc card i had in my hd camera. It's not a class 6 or above i think. But i hope it will do until i can order and receive a class 10. Only had my phone for 2 months but seeing as i changed the Os and unlocked it it's kinda warranty void. But seeing the "great" service dell offers it's probably a good thing i have no warranty lol

I don't know what the consumer laws are in Canada, but in the UK, installing a newer/different OS and unlocking doesn't invalidate warranty of a hardware component! even though they will try tell you otherwise.. Does your warranty on your windows PC become invalid if you install Linux?

Oh, you don't use with carrier phone service. Then yes I can see how you can get a lot of battery life that way. When I was first setting it up, I ran it as a tablet for a while and battery life was good.

Can I reply 1.81 on top of 1.81 and not have to reinstall everything? Want to play with the lcd density as Pavman suggested.

To change the density edit the density line in system/build.prop

Checked the file and it already says 160, even though my install.txt files says 240.

Is there more than one density line? I checked and only say one, but the font was pretty small.

I just ran 24 hours straight with about 5% of battery left. I have 3g and wifi on but no bluetooth. Made a couple of short calls and a couple of SMSes and a little surfing. Main usage is email receiving but I also write quite a few. I have exchange running push on Tabmail and I get about 200 emails in a day. I also use Gmail although I don't get very many emails on it. Guess my battery life is pretty good.

Since I leave mine on charge every night, 24hrs battery life is less relevant than being able to make it from 6am to 11pm without worrying about having to recharge. I think I'm there now... Everyone has different demands in terms of apps, comms and hardware performance (screen, speaker, sensors) so it's difficult to take anything from anecdotal reports. All I can say is that with 1.8.1 and my personal usage the Dell Streak is performing very well at the moment.

No there's only one, looks like install didn't pick up the instal.txt or there's a bug in the installer routine, either way if you want 240 then change it there.

just a small request for future version. Would it be possible to check into a working ad-hoc "connectivity" lol. Seeing the ad-hoc but not being able to use it is a real tease lol.

Anyone having any success with perfmod? I finally had to reflash without it.... miss the speed but it's nice to have stability again. It got to the point where my data partition was becoming corrupt every couple of days.

I'm running with perfmod... Only major issue is that people constantly complain that they can't hear me on the phone, which is pretty core functionality. I don't know whether this is a perfmod issue though, so will probably wait for 1.9

I too am running perfomd and it seems to work fine. No stability issues or anything...although I do notice that some apps keep re-starting, like that pinwheel browser. I might need to reboot the phone if this keeps up.

The speed is amazingly faster than it was on O2 1.6/DJS 1.4.6/1.5.1. You know you're nearing the limit of perfection when apps running in the background don't prevent you from drawing the unlock pattern.

Speaking of...wonder why they didn't just make that nice level higher than everything else for that process...hmm. Say when the lock screen pattern process starts, it re-nices itself to 20 (or whatever the highest nice level is). Then you never get locked out, even if h@x0R 733t pinwheel spyware app is running.

My battery life w/ cell antenna on was horrible, but I use wifi and don't have a provider. 77% of battery drainage was it searching for a signal. Once I disabled that, I get about 24 hours, maybe a little more, out of it. Basically, charge it in the morning and then forget to charge it over night and by the next morning its telling me to charge it. This is w/ wifi on permanently, as I have a sip client that keeps the connection up.
