Im sure all who had this problem replaced it if they could and got a LCD, cos they switched to lcd several months ago. Did you Nobug take it to the repair shop to get this fixed? I haven't got around to find one yet. Maybe this week.

Not yet, because I have to send it to a friend in England.

That's why I am asking about other's experience.

Yes a working screen is preferable.

now I wont regret if I get one with TFT. not a old OLED model.

buying one on ebay at 120 pounds or more just to get a OLED screen which may work for a few weeks, is a no go for me.

then deal with customer support, proof of purchase, second hand purchase and pay for stamps,...

much better to buy a new ZTE, and have a working phone forever. the difference between the 2 screens is negligible anyway as the TFT is clear LCD, a very good quality screen.

Hi dudes,

I also have this problem. These are my findings:

- The screen did not flicker blue during the winter ( coldest 4C)

- The screen does not flicker in recovery.

- The flicker started after the gen2 upgrade.

- Render effect doesn't change a thing.

- Flicker goes away after warming up the phone.

- Hitting it doesn't fix it

- Also I don't believe the oled crack thing.because I have NEVER dropped my phone. (I'm very careful!)

- SS5 flickers less than CM7.

I hope this info is useful.

Dude...

If its not happening in recovery (assuming you've been testing it in recovery A LOT) then its a software issue and heat wont effect it

Just to make sure we have the same problem, does it look like this:

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_Im19ujh5...eY/IMG_1523.JPG or like in this topic:

http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...sco-gone-wierd/

I'm asking because haven't upgraded to gen 2 and my problem started shortly after upgrade to cm7 (currently nightly 30-something). I didn't try changing roms yet, because others who have, did not notice any improvement or change. Also in my case its getting worse, now it turns blueish even when its pretty hot, it has to be really hot for the blue thing to disappear. Now its not even flickering that much its just transparent blue most of the time, really annoying, anybody knows for how much could this be sold now, just for parts ofc.

edit: I haven't tested it extensively in recovery, but mine gets blue even at start up on the green android screen, so Im guessing its blue everywhere. I suspect you have an emerging problem when it takes little heat to keep it from flickering and I think its gonna get worse. I suggest you get it replaced, or you could do us a huge favor and find a way to fix it, some of us who imported the phone cant rely on warranty.

Yes its this one: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/_Im19ujh5...eY/IMG_1523.JPG

Not the TFT OLED tint, but the annoying blue transparent annoyance.

I'm going to try Cyanogenmod nightly again to see the differences. I might also return to stock and see if there is a difference despite other peoples reports.

Also, i doubt that the Gen2 upgrade was the case, but it was worth mentioning just in case.

Edit:

I don't think i've been in recovery long enough to find flicker. Also, i can definatly see a difference in the amount of flicker between the different roms. but then again i'm just guessing because i haven't checked the temp of the battery for each rom, so it isn't a fair test.

Edit 2:

I upgraded to CM7 Nightly 68. The main screen is showing the blue flicker strongly, BUT when I go to settings a few times, it subsides.... My phone has been next to the radiator for a while, so it isn't cold.

When I return to the home screen the flicker returns a little.

Same problem here (OLED, now gen2). Had it at first when I was moving to Jellyfish (orig gen1). Now with CM7 its more often and more intense! Warming the phone up resolves the problem. I'm definiteley NOT looking forward to winter times!

I still believe its a software problem. If it was hardware then the amount of flicker wouldn't be random. Also, I backed up and restored my phone, but I still didn't see a single flicker! (After CM which had covered half the screen).

No I'm trying different settings, and trying see if anything is strange in the log.

The amount of flicker could change among various roms due to the different amount of resources different roms use. Some roms could run hotter than others and that is why they might have less flicker. Also I think there was a case of a guy on these forums who had the blue flicker while being still on the original stock orange branded rom, and other testimonials seem to point out the problem persists regardless of the rom in use. This leads me to believe its pretty much hardware, but I do hope its software, cause that means we can fix it. I am yet to try and experiment with different roms, so no first hand experience here..

True, but there was no significant change of temperature between each rom.

Also, i'm running alogcat to see if it shows anything on the log regarding the issue. But for some reason I don't get the flicker anymore, but i'll wait in the morning when its cold to see if its still there.

As of yet I still haven't had a single flicker on the android splash, boot screen, or recovery. Except for one instance: My battery ran out on CM and it turned off. I waited a while and turned it back on, after a long wait, the phone did not get past the splash screen and then it started to flicker. But I charged the phone afterward and i did not get it again.

I always have the blue thing at boot-screen, in my case the flicker used to be faint and appeared only if the device was stone cold, but now even if t gets warmer its still there. I used a simi clock battery indicator, that also provides temperature info and the flicker showed up when temp dropped below 26 degrees, and just stayed blue when it went down to 20. Now it just stays blue, without flickering at 30 degrees Celsius (according to the simi clock widget's battery info). The point is, it got worse for me and I suspect at one point, it is just going to stay blue regardless how hot it gets. Hope you find something with alogcat.

edit: I lied, at 30 degrees it flickers and at 26 it stays blue... it still is getting worse tho.

Half of my screen was just blue, but when I went to the calculator app and pressed menu, it started to subside (from just blue to flicker) so I kept going to the calculator app and the flicker completely away.

Can someone check this on there own phone please?

Also I can't tell if anything is wrong in the logcat so I'll upload it.

EDIT:

For some reason the flicker lowers when there is a black background like settings or calc.

Had this start on me this morning and remembered this thread. I can reproduce it constantly by holding the phone in front of my air con unit until it drops under 20 degrees and then it starts. As soon as I hold it in my hand and it gets a bit warmer it stops.

The phone sits in the same place every night and the weather is actually getting warmer so if it's doing it now it's definitely gonna do it in the winter and people here report it gets worse over time.

Phoned orange and they sending a replacement out tomorrow. I'm just a bit gutted about losing my oled screen :P

Well I'd love to be in your shoes, I imported the damn thing so, I'm kinda stuck. How long does the warranty last, is it 6 months or 1 year? I bought it in September in UK. Just want to know if I happen to travel there, so I can have it replaced. LCD is still much better than a faulty OLED, besides the text on LCD is apparently crispier.

When I phoned them the man did say that I was just outside the 6 months but he would do it anyway. This sort of implied to me that if it's under 6 months old they just swap them at your door the next day and if it's over 6 months they take them in for repair (as all UK electrical goods have a one year warranty).

For those thinking that this is a rom issue it definitely isn't. I was on the latest nightly of CM7 when it happened and I TPT'd the stock rom and layout back to the phone to return. I tested it in front of aircon with the stock rom and it did exactly the same when it got cold.

Was reading a thread from another forum where Orange wouldnt honour the warranty as the phone was over six months old, I had mine replaced at five months for the blue tint issue, there is a manufactures twelve month warrantry so if Orange refuse to replace it then maybe sending back to the manufacturer is an option, seek advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau as even though you might not be on the Orange network they are still the trader who sold you the phone and you have consumer rights.

You see, in the process of preparing my phone for a trip to the service center (Bouygues) i reinstalled the stock ROM, and I've been practically freezing the damn thing, but no flickering.

Does anyone have a firmware/software success story? Or should I just accept my defeat and head to Bouygues to play innocent?

Edit: confirmed this morning that indeed I'm having this problem with the stock(ish) rom (I know it's only logical, but I'm a first hand experience person). It's getting worse, also.

I've finally got round to returning the phone after having it about 8 months.

I ordered a free orange sim card and popped it onto an old spare phone, called orange (through the orange shop free number), registered my 'new' orange number with them, and they agreed to swap the phone the next day, no questions asked.

A courier arrived the next morning to swap the phone (just the front bit - i kept the same battery/SD/back cover), and I haven't head from orange since. I did get a TFT model, and i very definitely preferred the OLED screen, but its nice to have a working phone again.

it is hardware related my friend aparently OLED screens are easier to crack under heat, so leaving it by a window on a hot day (like i did) or near a radiator that is on it will have slight cracks, i suffered with this for 3 months, when i took it to a friend who has a phone shop , he took the screen off (digitizer) and found a mahoosive crack in the OLED panel, i tried taking mine back to orange (bought it in november) and orange said, its over 6 months old, there is nothing we can do about it, so now im stuck with a broken phone and im a student so i dont exactly have money to throw around buying new phones, dont i get like a 1 year waranty
