Guest Anil k Solanki Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 (edited) Hey guys, N152 - do you still have youtube and other videos playing with grid lines? I had this waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in N88 and never seen that after until I got on N152! :( Hi rockstarszzzz, I remember discussing this very same issue with you waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back. I have just tried YouTube, and I'm sorry to report I have no issues on N152. :( I use YouTube often at home on desktops & laptops, so I forget how good the YouTube app on ANDROID actually is. Sorry I can't help. Anil. Edited August 5, 2011 by Anil k Solanki

Guest ritterkeks Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 has anyone else experienced excessive data usage under gingerbread? it always has been ~20MB /day with only a few google searches, now its always around ~50MB a day, without any additional data usage other than syncing... I've already checked that the usage 3g watchdog displays is correct, since my provider states the same on the web interface. sure, I now have the google+ app installed, which automatically uploads any picture I take to google's servers.... but no pictures - no upload, right? is there a more advanced way of tweaking google's syncing, other than switching it OFF? like trading in push for longer battery life... no syncing throughout the night... etc regards, ritterkeks
Guest sej7278 Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 (edited) has anyone else experienced excessive data usage under gingerbread? i've got a feeling google+ syncs a massive amount of data, also google reader is a nasty piece of work. best thing is to turn off sync and do it manually in the app, and definitely turn off that g+ photo dropbox thing! you sure you're not getting market updates or something? i don't think its anything to do with the rom or android version, probably an app or sync setting. it would be nice to have finer grained control - like sync over wifi only or after 6pm only, or on an app-by-app basis e.g. always sync gmail via 3g but leave google+ until you're on wifi/offpeak. i don't think any of the issues in your signature are valid anymore, at least not on cm7. I do use Google+, but admittedly I am not a big user. I saw in your signature the link about 16 GB cards not allowing flashing of ROM's. I have used a 16 GB SD card from almost day one, and it works absolutely fine, I have flashed many different ROM's from this card, Gen 1 & Gen 2. This is the card I use. eBay link Anil. Using that metric, you would get 52 hours in standby. That is a pretty good figure. I suggest starting by calibrating your battery stats. Use this app, charge the battery to 100%. Once it's completed reboot, and launch the battery app again, charge for another 2 hours, now hit the calibrate battery button in the app, not before. Now comes the part I find most users simply don't do, the above procedure set's the 100% mark, now you have to set the 0% mark. This can be done easily, but the choice is yours. Simply keep using the handset until it turns itself off. On the way to 0% you will get two ANDROID warnings, one at 15%, and one at 5%, ignore these and continue using the phone until it goes dead. Or play a movie on loop, you decide. You're done! Well, almost. Now charge your phone to 100% using the power adapter, not a USB port. Try this and see if your battery life doesn't improve. Just bear in mind, flashing a different ROM may mean you need to do the above procedure again. Cyanogen updates will be OK, (unless they change the Kernel). I hope this helps. Anil.
Guest CaptainSpectacular Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 Same problem here, with n149. I didn't have ant battery drain issue since a long time. But since I've changed my battery wall charger, my battery fall very fast. I go to sleep with 68% and wake up with 49%. This never happened to me before, my n142+ didn't drain battery at all, only if I use the phone. My new charger is 1000 mA, don't know if it's the problem... I'll try to calibrate my battery again.
Guest little pea Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 Cheers anil nice1 :-) So 52 hours is good for cm7 just to clarify?
Guest targetbsp Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 Have you tried putting it in airplane overnight? For me it'll use no more than 1% in that state. If yours uses more then you probably have something running that's not letting it be as battery efficient as it could be.
Guest CaptainSpectacular Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 Actually I can wake up my phone with Home, Menu and Back button. Don't know if it's a n149 feature ? When I can do that before, it's when an app is running. So if I can wake up my phone with these buttons, so an app is running, but I don't know this app...

Hi CaptainSpectacular, waking up from other than the power button isn't a feature of Cyanogen. It's a glitch that's been mentioned many times before, so you're not alone. A reboot seems to fix the glitch. Anil.
Guest samjam Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 a lot of the problem is probably that most of us on this thread have been here since it was under 300 pages lol. for newcomers its too daunting, and could really do with being closed, the main points summarised and a new thread opened. of course going through it finding the helpful points would be an admin nightmare. i guess if we took 10 pages each, we could work through it, but...... that said its a lot easier to find useful info here than on xda :D It's been noted before that the model of the forum is wrong. Each forum and each thread needs a set of wiki pages where canonical information can be gathered, to which the forum becomes a discussion and a place where the information is gathered from. The first few posts in a thread are often "reserved" in an attempt to do this but it depends on the original poster always updating them, who may have lost interest by then. There is a separate wiki but it is not integrated with the forums.
Guest targetbsp Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 I think that makes the difference between those that think CM7 is good and those that don't. There have been good and bad builds of it. Various bad ones have been modifiable to be good. Those who follow this thread daily can keep on top of it and know what versions and patches to run and which to simply avoid. But you need the time to be able to do that! Having that time myself, I actually provide the condensed news from here onto another forum I frequent, advising them of the good versions and stuff lol.
Guest little pea Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 @targetbsp so which nightlhes or wateva wud recomend i love cm7 n battery life varies to each user upon ow they use it me maself i dont sync or anything lyk that and i forgot about airplame mode lol
Guest targetbsp Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 I haven't had any issue with most of the new kernel ones. N135 had it's problems for unknown reasons, but everything else lately seems to have been fine. I'm currently running yesterdays 152. I'm on 75% after 20 hours and that included a little gaming last night.

Unfortunately the site is/has recently undergone major changes, so these great suggestions are unlikely to be taken up. Shame. Anil.
Guest Pelemanne Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 On n152 using Tasker v1.0.21u with no problem, when updating to new v1.1 Tasker is not recognized by Superuser and is failing to get root privileges. Anyone else having this problem?

You could try using an app like AutomateIt to do some of that. You could use it to enable sync at certain times only at least, maybe some of the others as well. There's a free version and pro version that lets you do extra stuff as well (dunno if the pro version is any good or not, only have the free one).
Guest lol looool Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 N152: 10minutes 21 seconds using wifi (with 64 dBm) & Dolphin HD , battery deceases -12% ------------------- Battery Stats ------------------ Wifi ------------ 68% Screen -------- 24 % Dolphin Browser -- 1% Android system --- 1% What's happened with wifi driver? n148 runs better

Guest Pelemanne Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 (edited) Actually... my tasker has never used root. Which might be why it works! What are you doing with it to need root? (so I can test) I'm controlling for example my batery usage and optimum performance by controlling cpu frequencies (http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1018245) overclocking up to 748 when display on. You'll test by downloading profiles from xda-developers and try for "CPU_InteractiveManual" (change first the minimum freq. suitable for Blade. First for sure 600 MHz). Tasker should require root(superuser promts) when you test it. Edited August 6, 2011 by Pelemanne
