You can restore a backup from a different parition layout no problem as long as you have the free space on all changed partitions to do so. I've done it myself to convert from 136 to 160. A 136 system will obviously fit inside 160 but by going to 160 you will have reduced your data partition size so you need to be sure you don't have so many apps that this causes a problem.

I'm not giving CM9 more than 160mb. I have 3 different builds of it inside 160. Using the smaller gapps. The full ICS gapps is ridiculously large and includes all sorts of apps that CM7 downloads post install. And in the case of those 10's of mb's of face recognition stuff, it's not like we can use it anyway.

Hi Guys,

Re: My Question

Will it work, or will it wipe data? As last time I lost my Google Acc, and associations with it...? :(

Cheers, Lister

Ermm... that hardly wiped your data. All you need to do is install gapps and login to google if that happens.

I wonder if they've actually fixed github yet so we can actually sync the new merges without jumping through hoops??

About to find out...

And the answer is no. :D

Hello people, my girlfriend have this phone, with Cyanogen 7.1 Final.

But the phone is having some Random Reboots.

Is this normal in this version? Its better to update to another Cyanogen version? Which one if its the case?

As far as I'm aware 7.1 Final should be stable. Is the phone overclocked?

I think its on 691Mhz. I'll do some uncerclock to see if the problem goes away.

But 7.1 Stable its a bit old already, is there a new one you recommend?

They stopped making nightlies ages ago so you'd need to use a version compiled by someone. I compile my own one. Mine and others are available over the past few pages of the thread (there's one linked at the top of this page in a quote). I'm not aware of any reboot issues being fixed though (mostly cause like I said, I'm not aware of any reboot issues happening!)

Are you actually typing in English? Sounds like you are using unicode encoding.

I'm typing in Portuguese from Portugal. Where can I check the unicode encoding?

When It'll be worth making new package please can someone do it?

Of course if new merges/fixes are worth doing it...

BTW Battery is draining really fast.

Could someone fix it?

I think that option caused battery drain in some roms it was in didn't it?

If anything worthwhile is added I'm sure lots of people will make a new build. I sure will. But I can't see much being added cause most of the work being done is on CM9.

There are not battery drain problems I know of in CM7. You done the usual checks in spare parts etc?

I am also interested in this topic.

This definitely shows your messages are sent in Unicode. I know that Handcent SMS f.e. converts the characters to be possible to transmit with the normal SMS alphabet - if it is set up correctly for your language. It would be nice to have this feature in the normal messaging, but I think there is nothing similar.

This seems to be a market driven option in android, so go and send twice as much SMS, or use no accents at all! Just like "sending VCard only possible in MMS"...

I have also seen a keyboard app, which used the "SMS alphabet" when completing the accented words, but it did this for all applications, like e-mail, which does not require this.

I guess it is only you who can fix it. In 99% of the cases not the ROM itself causes the battery drain, but your current settings/applications/configurations. There is no general draining issue at the moment with CM (as far as I know) so please take care of your applications.

I recommend to use "better battery stats", and look for "partial wakelocks"!

Funnily enough, I came to post on this very subject. last night I was playing a game that wouldn't close properly (with the back button) so I just hit home and went to bed. This morning half my battery had gone but battery usage apps show nothing because at some point the memory manager had kicked it out for not being used. So it *looks* like the roms fault. This is the second time this has happened with different games, but luckily I've known the cause myself the next day. So a bad app can easily give the impression of a rom being to blame for battery drain.
