Guest Benoe Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 Worked for me! I'm not using it currently though. It's for those that have wifi sleep issues. Worked for me too. Thanks.
Guest sej7278 Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 A CWM patch to replace the new kernel and wifi with the older one: http://blade.windows...-old-kernel.zip MD5#9FB46571913C9ED9F7F1257D4348CDEA i'm a bit lost here - isn't the new kernel the patch9 one we've been using for a couple of weeks now on my/your builds? has something gone wrong when it got merged into the nightlies?
Guest l2azor Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 (edited) need a rom with these: cpu wifi undervolt ics effects gpu overclock axi overclock odexed whcih one? Edited March 15, 2012 by l2azor

A couple of people have said their phones won't sleep with the wifi switched on. I can't reproduce any such issue and most people don't seem to be complaining so it's a weird one! I presume there was nothing wrong with the merge and they would have had problems with the test version too had they tried it. It was easy enough to nick a kernel flashing CWM zip and copy the old files in for their sake as a temporary measure so they can keep using the new roms. So I did. :) Edited March 15, 2012 by targetbsp

So I did. :) Wifi doesn't sleep for me either with the new kernel, but I flashed it over a pretty old version (around Christmas), didn't wipe, and it was one I made myself and merged with one of wbaw's boot images. Seeing as there are numerous places I could have caused the problem, and need my phone as a phone at the moment so can't try different versions to check, I didn't bother mentioning it. There's quite a lot of builds floating around at the moment, maybe some of them don't have this problem, or maybe people don't keep wifi on all the time so haven't noticed it. I was being lazy and had disabled the AutomateIt rule I have to turn wifi on/off with the screen which is why I noticed the problem. Now that I have enabled the rule again my battery is fine, as wifi is only on when the screen is on, so the phone is awake anyway. If it wasn't for me disabling the rule I would never have noticed anything.

Guest TigTex Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 That new kernel source is not that great, that's true. I'm also having a little more battery drain than usual with that kernel. And wifi has a lot of bugs (sometimes doesn't reconnect, phone doesn't sleep, wifi analizer doesnt detect any network most of times...) Maybe it would be a good idea to revert the wifi kernel module to the older version no? I don't know that other features did that update bring since we are still on 2.6.35...
Guest targetbsp Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 (edited) Only issue I've had trouble with is wifi reconnecting on occasion. I'm aware CPU Spy doesn't work. A few people have phone not sleeping with wifi on. I've tested this multiple times and cannot reproduce it. Even if I could, it wouldn't affect me as I have tasker automate my wifi on and off with the screen. But this is obviously a bad one for those affected! A couple of people have noted it gets through the battery quicker than the old one even if you don't have sleep issues - but I can neither confirm nor deny. And as TigTex asks... what is it actually bringing us in benefit to put against those issues? The old one was pretty damned good. This seems simply to be newer and doesn't seem to bring any benefits? Only downsides? I'm a bit OCD about having the latest versions of all my software but I'm not sure about this one. I think we didn't test it well enough before merging. :( Edited March 15, 2012 by targetbsp

I think the new kernel source fixes camera issues on some newer Blades, but there are others that still have broken cameras even with this latest source. Wifi seems worse though, with the speed limit problems being had earlier and now some people have trouble with it not sleeping.
Guest targetbsp Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 And I seem to recall from an earlier post when we were first beginning to test this new kernel that mixing it and the old wifi stuff isn't an option? At least without changing things in the kernel source I'd guess?
Guest hankhandsome Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 Ok, if anyone is interested, for a laugh, I did a "visual representation" of my day with the battery on this rom. Each screenshot was taken either when I'd just done something or was about to (if that makes sense..) So here goes .. 8:15am. Unplugged fully charged. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j145/jasonwatkins/screenshot-1331799306166.png 9:16am. 45 minutes of GPS tracking with "Endomondo app" with Music playing on stock player at the same time with a quick 10 second phonecall. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j145/jasonwatkins/screenshot-1331802973335.png 10:32am. Music still playing on stock player (2 hours straight..). http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j145/jasonwatkins/screenshot-1331807527804.png 10:41am .. 8 minutes later :) http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j145/jasonwatkins/screenshot-1331808086499.png 1:29pm. About to switch stock music player on. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j145/jasonwatkins/screenshot-1331818147241.png 3:17pm. Arrive back home, stock music player on continuously from previous pic. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j145/jasonwatkins/screenshot-1331824628222.png 12:15am. Was considering going to bed .. heh :) http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j145/jasonwatkins/screenshot-1331856950099.png So a day's heavy use and i've only lost 47%. I'd consider that pretty damned impressive. So much so that I think i'm at the end of the road with ROM's. Unless something pretty special comes out, I can't see me getting rid of this one.

So youre using the new kernel with the 13 mar yeah? Gosh I wish I had that kind of usage. Guess it's back to the better battery stats drawing board for me. :(
Guest Pondlife Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 Was the screen on much during the day? As without it I don't think it's that heavy a usage, maybe I'm wrong not really used it as mp3 player.

Was the screen on much during the day? As without it I don't think it's that heavy a usage, maybe I'm wrong not really used it as mp3 player. Well i'd consider 4 hours of mp3 playing, with frequent track skipping (and i MEAN frequent :)), as well as auto sync set to "on", checking tweetdeck for updates and sending some SMS's during the day as "heavy" usage. And the screen was off when I was playing the music. Since it's now 3:10am and i'm still wide awake, i'll do an apps list if it ultimately helps anyone else get the same usage. As far as the missing stock apps go, i actually fully uninstall and remove them rather than just freezing them. Guest kingpair Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 :) gotta love the insomnia. I freeze as opposed to downright uninstalling. To my noob brain I dont see how the latter would take up less system resources (apart from physical memory) than the former but there's no arguing with those results. Thanks bro.
Guest hankhandsome Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 :) gotta love the insomnia. tell me about it .. still here and still awake :) Thanks bro. No problem. Hope it helps.
Guest targetbsp Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 (edited) Playing music is the lightest use of the phone I can actually think of. :D Freezing is better than uninstalling simply because they stay frozen when you next update your rom. Whereas they would get re-installed if they;d been uninstalled so you'd need to uninstall them again and again. Edited March 16, 2012 by targetbsp
Guest kjacek Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 A few people have phone not sleeping with wifi on. Me too ;-(
Guest targetbsp Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 34 downloads of the old kernel so far so it does seem to be more than a couple affected!
Guest kingpair Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 Playing music is the lightest use of the phone I can actually think of. Hmm good point. On second day with the older kernel the battery seems to be holding up better. It can certainly hold a charge over wifi now. @targetbsp does the kernel determine the scrolling speed? because this rom seems to be a bit jerky moving around the ui. If that's the trade-off for better battery life I'll take it.
Guest targetbsp Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 I don't honestly know. I've not noticed! Someone pointed out to me on another forum that the new one was faster than the previous one but the new one also included the new adreno libs so I figured it was down to that.
Guest kingpair Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 So could the battery issues be down to the adreno libs? Incidentally I haven't flashed the adreno libs on my current rom because I don't game at all. Didnt think it would affect scrolling performance but I guess I should flash it now and check out the difference.
Guest sierra2000 Posted March 16, 2012 Report Posted March 16, 2012 for my blade the best battery life is on this rom MIUI(cm7) 2.3.7 for balde, not so smooth as other rom's, but now i get 3 days with no problem.

The battery issues are not related to adreno libs i have burgerZ feb 29 and flashed adreno libs and I'm very satisfyed with battery too but I can confirm that it's a bit jerky even in games You said that this rom is a little behind burstlam's 361X at battery life, in my opinion is the other way around but if you have some arguments i ould change my opinion Edited March 16, 2012 by Cata_Simi

So we're getting the same results. Adreno libs made no difference to scrolling by the way.
