Guest alex1alex2alex3alex4 Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 3) Use someone else's compiled binaries from 2) The question I ask myself is: CM7 is built for a number of different devices, (why) can't it be built for Blade Gen1 - PLUS - Gen2 "officially" ?
Guest Amphoras Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 The question I ask myself is: CM7 is built for a number of different devices, (why) can't it be built for Blade Gen1 - PLUS - Gen2 "officially" ? I assume the reason for that is that different people work on the different devices. The people working on the Blade have decided to only support Gen 2 from now on. If someone wanted to support Gen 1, I'm sure they could, but it would become two different ROMs with different people fixing the different bugs and doing different things rather than the same ROM with the conversion to make it work on both.

Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 The question I ask myself is: CM7 is built for a number of different devices, (why) can't it be built for Blade Gen1 - PLUS - Gen2 "officially" ? Because Gen1's have been out ages and Gen2's are still relatively new. I'm sure Gen2s will be officially supported soon. Just give the devs some time to look at Gen2 devices a bit further - I'm sure the main issues are patched quickly in a few places. But of course, its possible that is untrue.
Guest Maringer Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Here in the UK, it would all be so much easier if Orange just released an official Froyo 2.2 Gen2 upgrade... Chances of that occurring: practically nil.
Guest iotola Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Exactly why some people are disheartened that GEN1 CM7 development has stopped. Users are left with an awkward decision: 1. Stay with GEN1 and have the option to swap back to MDC, FBL etc (a lot of users experiencing shutdowns during charging on the last few releases leaves an air of unease) 2. Go GEN2 and trust that CM7 will be completed as we currently won't be able to revert to GEN1 Don't want to be left with a ROM the developers are saying is "final" or "stable" when users are having problems I understand that "that's the way it is", "take it or leave it" seems to be the position, it just doesn't make any sense why a developer would want to leave a project "unfinished". There is no one in this forum that doesn't apreciate the time and effort of the developers, but when developing you have to be able to take the criticism as well as the praise. Although I don't feel people have been critical, I think they just want to understand what's going on and why. P.S. I don't want any flame war etc The above is merely an observation and not a dig at anyone. [edit] Just noticed the thread title......made me chuckle :) [/edit] I agree with most of the above assessment. While I would really like to upgrade to GEN2 I am reluctant to do so while Orange UK are still on GEN1. I know my warranty is invalidated by installing customs ROMs but I believe with TPT you can pretty much restore a phone to Orange stock. So I stand some chance of my warranty being honoured. At present for me unless a foolproof method for restoring GEN1 can be devised or CM7 becomes truly stable on the blade, moving to GEN2 appears a gamble. Reading this forum thread I expect many others will also hold off upgrading to GEN2. This will reduce the number of people actually running and testing newer versions of CM7, and a reduction in testers may slow the development of a truly stable Blade version of CM7. So the users appear to be just questioning the timing of this change. From the developers perspective its a difficult decision as they probably don't want (or have the time) to run dual developments for both GEN1 and GEN2 blades given that problems encountered may be GEN specific.

He's not wanting Gen 2 devices to be officially supported, CM7 will be only for Gen 2 from now on. He wants Gen 1 to continue to be officially supported, which it no longer will be.

Guest MaK11-12 Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Sorry for hijacking. But whenever I install gapps (google package) on cyanogenmod 7, I don't see any of the apps appearing (no market). Why is this? I have wiped my phone before upgrading aswell. I have checked on other forums aswell but I don't see this problem anywhere else. :)
Guest Orbbman Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Damn, I get a bootloop all the time. Flashed CM7 stable last night, everything worked like a charm. When I turned my phone on this morning, I got to "Enter Pin" and if I hurried, I could get to the launcher - and then I got into a boot loop. So I wiped everything, afterwards it worked. Changed my settings again and after 6 hours of work, I got into a bootloop when I turned on Wifi at home. Nightly 14 seemed more stable to me than this one! Anyone got a hint? It's a Gen1 Orange San Francisco.

Guest MaK11-12 Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Did you install the latest gapps from here or a different package ? Yes I did. And to make sure it wasn't corrupt, i downloaded it again and got the same results. Using the new nightly doesn't work either.

It's a Gen1 Orange San Francisco. I also had a kind of bootloop. It would boot then reboot when I did various things like turn wireless on or launch maps. This was on an early OSF -> GEN2 with 128mb nocache partition mod and the kernel built from Tom's source. I even deleted wallpapers and TTS to make sure there was enough space but it kept on looping. Gone to SS for now. No big deal. It will come good. Recommend 136MB though for the future. No overclocking Edited April 14, 2011 by tcpaulh

Does it matter that the system partition of my blade is smaller than normal? (I used Japanese Jellyfish TPT install before)
Guest hugobosslives Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Does it matter that the system partition of my blade is smaller than normal? (I used Japanese Jellyfish TPT install before) yer this will probs be why. how big is your system partition? (check with root explorer or something) you may have made it too small to fit these gapps in so it can't install them. to resize use wbaw's partition mod (it's on the first page of the rom custimisation thead at the moment)

Guest MaK11-12 Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 My System partition is 128MB. Also, i can't install any apps because I don't have Market.
Guest _amano Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 (edited) http://r.cyanogenmod.com/#change,4660 That sounds interesting. Guest OptimusStudio Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 good job.. thanks for share...

Would anyone happen to have a compiled libaudio.so patched with the above fixes that they can ping me? Would love to test this!
Guest alex1alex2alex3alex4 Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 Is cm7 still gen1? Yes, for the time being, until further notice, but not for much longer - the switch to Gen2 (only !) is just ahead.
