Guest Fou-lu Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 what was the point / benefit of making it GEN2 only?, CM7 is more "stable" on GEN2 now? seeing as before this GEN1/2 split, we all lived in peace, flashed CM7 TOGETHER , no one was forgotten!, now it's a divide against us original`s, even some of our own betrayed us and converted over! but, each UK Model is GEN1, meaning they must upgrade and lose warranty on the first month if they purchase it now / later, or stay away from nightlys, no longer noob friendly, unless a converter saves us!... what if the OLED'S were forced to be TFT? rip out your screens and convert, they learned to live in harmony, so must we! really there's no point at all to convert, the latest nightlys are no big difference to RC4+, HUSPA is kinda useless unless you upload a shitload of mb from your phone, 850mhz nothing useful for Europe.. Nightlys are soo addictive!

It's your choice, nobody's forcing you to go Gen2.
Guest hugobosslives Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 jeez guys just get over it. either stay on n39. and that will be your last ever cm7 version. (n39 is still way better than any other rom) or grow sum balls and decided to upgrade to gen2.....

Nightlys are soo addictive! The last bus to Rantsville left days ago.....shush! :) The move to GEN2 for CM7 has been decided upon and started so it's time to either: 1. Use what's available and enjoy 2. Pull together and provide the developers with good feedback to assist with bug removal etc It might be helpful if Jacob/Tom let us know which bug(s) they were having the most trouble with so we can provide more/better feed back & log files to help? On that note: if the phone reboots/crashes (battery removal job), should we go straight into CWM and grab the last_kmsg before the OS boots backup or does the OS need to boot to create the last_kmsg?

I second this, I am really getting fed up of reading about it, its gone on long enough, upgrade to gen 2 or stay on N39, but for the love of God, stop going on about it.
Guest Fou-lu Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 The last bus to Rantsville left days ago crap, always miss the bloody bus sorry :/ But seriously, any benefits at all on GEN2 in CM7? less bugs? or better wait till N45+ (or later) to upgrade as simply just lazy to upgrade without a reason you know...

Hey Fou-lu - should I have a cheese sandwich for lunch or a ham sandwich? What do you think? Anyone else got any suggestions? Life's soooo full of these tricky decisions.... [/sarcastic git]
Guest paulocostavct Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Still not going to change to Gen2. I don't care if i stay on N39 indefinitely, i don't care if there is no one working on Gen1 updates. Never had issues with network or with internet speed so what's the point in changing to Gen2? I know it's new and better. Still not changing. I'm not winding just saying i don't care about Gen2. And for me it's disappointing that you just kicked Gen1 users to a corner and say to them if you don't change to Gen2 you're out. I always will think that cyanogen rules but i feel disappointed, but keep the good work, not for me but for the billions of Gen2 users. Over and out.
Guest juniperz Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 ... Nightlys are soo addictive! ... as simply just lazy to upgrade without a reason you know... Anyone else think that is a little contradictory?

Guest Ciels Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 I would've assumed they'd fix the terrible issue of rebooting on GEN1 before jumping to another phone. Forever unstable.
Guest shastar Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Some ask what is the advantage of gen2 over Gen1. You can brag to your friends that you run GENERATION 2, and so much better ..... and my dad is better than your dad ... :) It is easier for those with Gen1 switching to gen2. Instead of gen2 with switching to Gen1. You lose nothing by changing to gen2, more than likely guarantee. But the risk you play with every time you flash your phone.
Guest Fou-lu Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) Anyone else think that is a little contradictory? boohoo, half of what was written was sarcasm anyway, the simple facts are GEN1 is still being shipped in UK so for us, its upgrade or go away you slimy originals!, Honestly N36 is kinda perfect for me, and probably wouldn't have upgraded till N50+ even if it was still GEN1 compatible, the problem is more for the UK Guy's who buy the blade NOW, they wont get to enjoy the latest rom without risk a full brick and void warranty without being able to convert back, zte blade is the most noob friendly device ever for flashing, i haven't used a pc once in this whole time, that ease alone is incredible.. it isn't a rant (maybe), its pointing the key facts of why the GEN1 Guy's did moan, we liked CM7 so much, thanks to Jacob/toms hard work, and have no right to demand, just think this could have been handled differently, GEN1 were the majority user's, yet it was dealt like there scum. stop asking! rants! upgrades!. @shastar, GEN2 people had no reason at all to switch to GEN1, why? because CM7 worked for them anyway, that's the flaw, GEN2 could use it, but GEN1 cant.. like said before, that chicken man was using GEN2 + N39, everyone was compatible, but now it's all limited. Guest paulocostavct Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Finally. That's what i'm talking about Fou-lu.

Please don't use me in an argument to back up your stupid points. I used Gen2 by using a tool that made the kernel compatible. The same can be done for Gen1 users too afraid to take the risk of upgrading. I'm sure the tool will be out soon, so calm down.
Guest Grain Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 what was the point / benefit of making it GEN2 only?, CM7 is more "stable" on GEN2 now? Who cares. At the moment, CM-wise, there is no reason to upgrade to GEN2. Just stick with N39 or the stable release and GEN1. Later, in case new things/fixes get added to CM, it'll be easy to provide a "backport" of Cyanogen for GEN1 phones (in the ZIP only a few files have to be changed). Unless you need HSUPA, I would recommend to stay on GEN1. Otherwise you lose fastboot and TPT at the moment.

Guest paulocostavct Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Great let's all change to Gen2 all the problems are solved now. The only problem now is all Gen1 that care about warranty void. So that's no biggie.

If you care about warranty so much badword off back to b05/b08/b10/b20.

You never saw me winding except for this matter. No one as told before that a converter for Gen1 is being develop, all i see is convert or get lost.

Guest Grain Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Gen2 has fastboot. Also, in Nightly 41, the GPS reboot issue is fixed. Fastboot as in "Power+Up"? Fastboot via adb doesn't help much if for example the normal ROM and recovery are scrambled for some reason. The reboot issue fix is easy to backport.

If you're so happy with N39 then what does it matter if there's never another release for you? Personally I'm in a similar boat. I'm happy enough with N35 for the time being but the moment there's a CM7 update I want, I'll go gen2. It's pretty simple: if the benefits of a newer CM7 outweigh the downsides of gen 2 then you'll upgrade. If they don't then you're obviously not missing anything important to you so it doesn't matter anyway.
Guest swordtail Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 I would have thought once Gen 2 CM7 is finished and is actually stable and totally bug free (yes I live in hope) that there would be scope to do a one off gen 1 final release to keep everyone happy and then development of Cm8 can begin :-) Oh and I switched to Gen 2 no big problem warranty or not were not talking a £350 phone here are we!!
