Guest paulocostavct Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) I'm not here trying to insult no one. I know the devs have life and the future is Gen2 but the big majority has a gen1 device. I have the most profound admiration for cyanogen guys before trying this astonishing rom i have tried all the others roms and this one had right from the beginning. If they're working on a little something for Gen1 I'll stop complaining and keep having fun with cyanogen. buneech you are so right and i apologize it really is different in many ways. I'm wtitins in English with Portuguese dictionary. I'll guess I'll put 2 languages on my keyboard. Sorry guys. Edited April 19, 2011 by paulocostavct
Guest pellonet Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Who cares. At the moment, CM-wise, there is no reason to upgrade to GEN2. Just stick with N39 or the stable release and GEN1. Later, in case new things/fixes get added to CM, it'll be easy to provide a "backport" of Cyanogen for GEN1 phones (in the ZIP only a few files have to be changed). Unless you need HSUPA, I would recommend to stay on GEN1. Otherwise you lose fastboot and TPT at the moment. Problem with your advice is that if everyone followed it then further development would cease, our contribution is the testing we do that finds the glitches in the tireless & selfless efforts of the developers. OK, I am in a slightly safer environment having two OSFs but MY advice would be that if you rely on solely your only phone for work or mission-critical purposes then the 'nightlies' & Gen2 conversions are really not for you.

That's illogical, you can't tell people too stay away from nightlys if there not gonna update to the latest one, even if there's no change and it's buggier, there are some golden eggs in the batch of rotten nightlys, they are worth it, and once a new one pops up in GEN2 a mass Exodus of converts will happen. there will always be the nightly junky anyway :)
Guest Dark Man X Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 The reboot issue fix is easy to backport. please do it :)
Guest Grain Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) Problem with your advice is that if everyone followed it then further development would cease, our contribution is the testing we do that finds the glitches in the tireless & selfless efforts of the developers. I don't see that. Stay with GEN1, use 'backported' CM (as I said it's really no big deal; two RIL libs and a few changes in the kernel config is all that has to be changed on source level), there you go. Of course you can also help with development/testing then (apart from RIL problems perhaps). The GEN1 vs. GEN2 debate went HUGELY out of proportion really. Perhaps there's also some misunderstanding: The 'switch' of Cyanogen to GEN2 was not because "GEN2 is totally different" (which would be WRONG) but because the the CyanogenMod web infrastructure can handle only one build per device currently (well, at least that is what I think :( ). So it's down to bureaucracy in the end :) . Dark Man: The shutdown fix is the changes by slartibardfast here (I guess). I might play with that over easter (or I might sit in the sun instead :) ). Guest Matthew Ferguson Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 thank you, these are the types of replys which should be given, unlike snidey , boasting chickens with gen2.. Of course you'd prefer this reply, it's the same as your opinion... And your picture's taking it too far. I can't believe your mother lets you use a computer at your age... As far as I can tell, you've popped on the forum, been extremely immature, and insulted the devs. That's all you've done.
Guest ThrashMan Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 It might be helpful if Jacob/Tom let us know which bug(s) they were having the most trouble with so we can provide more/better feed back & log files to help? On that note: if the phone reboots/crashes (battery removal job), should we go straight into CWM and grab the last_kmsg before the OS boots backup or does the OS need to boot to create the last_kmsg? Stop bitching and answer my question! :)
Guest Fou-lu Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 obviously you can't read people's post's properly, nowhere have i demanded or spoke ill off CM7 and it's devs, if anything the pure want for CM7 proves how much i like there work, never once said MAKE A GEN1, it's there rom!, will wait for backports like must of us GEN1 anyway, that's insulting how? asking what is the benefits and reasons for a port? that's also insulting huh? the question was directed at the community, not in anyway bringing devs into it. as for the pic, you watch family guy and have no humour? :0
Guest Fou-lu Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) 2. Pull together and provide the developers with good feedback to assist with bug removal etc It might be helpful if Jacob/Tom let us know which bug(s) they were having the most trouble with so we can provide more/better feed back & log files to help? Guest WillDroid Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Is this thread even serious any more? It should be a place to discuss matters and not rant at each other! Surely we are all mature enough just understand what can and cant be done at this moment in time. If a tool becomes available that will convert versions of Cyanogen to a form usable on GEN1 devices, then great, we will all be happy, but until then, we all need to take a step back and see how ridiculously immature this is becoming!
Guest hecatae Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 Is this thread even serious any more? true, the gen2 upgrade rant in this thread would not last 5 minutes on the cyanogenmod forum, which is probably why they are posting in here
Guest samjam Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 as for the pic, you watch family guy and have no humour? :0 Humour isn't the only social oil. I understand the humour in the picture origin, but to me in this context it shows violence to another forum member. I wonder what type of person would persist after it was drawn to their attention. Sensitivity is another social oil, it regulates some things which ought to be innocent but which aren't always. Humour is not a substitute for sensitivity.

Oh look @Fou-lu just dug it deeper - look at the lovely new picture...
Guest Fou-lu Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 (edited) This has gone way offtop, end it now and continue with the bug reporting.. ill fix that avatar sorry if it offended people, but boring rants suck, it wasn't a attack on the person, we had a simple disagreement, which seeing as he had that specific avatar it was suitable. tip: don't watch family Guy. Guest hugobosslives Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 right, just got to get this off my chest...... SHUT THE badword UP! I come home today (and yesturday, and the day before that, and the fricken day before that....) and read this thread to find out how the next set of nightlies are coming along. if any stuff is improved and whether i should put the next nightly on etc... And now 90% of this thread has BECOME UTTER BOLLOCKS! seriously guys, get a grip. if you don't wana 'upgrade', live with it! maybe some day one of you will make a port that allows a gen2 nightly to flash on a gen1 blade. but doing that is way more work than just following the post on upgrading to gen2 anyway! anyway if you do brick it so bad it won't work at all. orange won't know what you've done they give them out like hotcakes if you just walk in act quite annoyed (but still polite) and say it won't turn on..... now my polite request (well kinda): please do not use this thread to: 1) whine, 2) anything about asking to go back to gen1 3) ask about the advantages of gen2 4) ask what the last gen1 nighltly was (Read the thread!), 5) argue pointless, unrelated stuff, 6) start being verbally violent to another member etc..... start your own crapy thread about gen moaning, i don't care, JUST NOT ON THIS THREAD! we have been using cm7 since the first RC1 and until reacently this thread was really informative and useful...... rant over :)
Guest jamidodger1 Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 start your own crapy thread about gen moaning Even better don't moan on modaco go on another forum
Guest Fou-lu Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 3) ask about the advantages of gen2 4) ask what the last gen1 nighltly was (Read the thread!) 3. yeah, but in the short term people will ask if GEN2 runs CM7 better than GEN1, kinda unavoidable as the change is just 3days now, and some people are searching for a reason to upgrade, it's simple questions not trolling or moaning, remeber the blade brought alot of newcomers to the flashing community, either way this topic is for bug reports an user experience from CM7.. 4.This probably should be put on first post as last stable GEN1 release is N39? it will save alot of people answering the same question 1million times :)
Guest k0zmic Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 gps still crashes in n41 :) There was a tip if you turn it off and on and reboot or something it may stop crashing. Try that.

Guest ThermalDroid Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 Eeer as a mac user I have no way of upgrading that kernal, any ideas?
Guest Poodha Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 (edited) If you're so happy with N39 then what does it matter if there's never another release for you? Personally I'm in a similar boat. I'm happy enough with N35 for the time being but the moment there's a CM7 update I want, I'll go gen2. Just a question, why are you not upgrading to the latest stable or N39? I've been out of the nightly loop for a while, and I'm also on N35. Was considering to try N39 now(although N35 have been very stable) but have some recollection of people recommending N35 over later nightlies(some new bug in the new kernel IIRC). So you have any specific reason not to update to stable or N39, or are you just lazy like me? =) Edited April 20, 2011 by Poodha
Guest Fou-lu Posted April 20, 2011 Report Posted April 20, 2011 another N35 user? that build is legendary.
