Coming back to the Pulse after a year's hiatus

Hi all,

Long time no speak. The Pulse was my first android phone way back in Dec of '09. I used it for about 6 months and then upgraded to a Galaxy S because I loved android too much!

So my phone is stuck in a timewarp from April 2010. I'm planning on giving it to my sister and want to make sure everything is up to date. It looks like T-Mobile finally pulled their finger out and released not one, but two versions of 2.1. Some have reported that the Feb 2011 2.1 finally fixes the non-received SMS bug - is this true?

I'm looking to install either a T-Mobile official version, or something relatively stock and fully functioning. By this I mean: camera, GPS, wifi, RIL etc etc. I couldn't find a link to any mods that were 2.2 and fully functioning - do they exist and if so, could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks very much!

Your best choices, if you want a fully functional phone, is FLB-Mod 1.7 (2.1) with swap and a2sd or a CM6 ROM (2.2), also with swap and a2sd. CM6 ROMs are what most people use nowadays and they are 99% fully functional (biggest bug is that the sensor rotation stops working sometimes, but with a reboot it is fixed).

Twrock's CM6 ROM: http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...-modifications/

My CM6 ROM: http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...anogenmod-plus/

Thanks for the useful response.

I understand that the new Feb 2011 2.1 changes partition sizes. Is this correct? Furthermore, does it affect the installation of any of the CM6 roms?

Yes. As far as I'm aware all the current CM6 ROMS are based on the original 2.1 upgrade and won't work on the latest one. (I tried it and failed, and so did a number of other users).

There was some talk of someone using the newer official updates (especially the German one), but I don't think anything is really happening on them. It seems the current CM6 ROMs have gone about as far as they're going to, maybe a few tweaks here and there. I think most are waiting to see if the CM7 sees the light of day, and if it represents any great improvement over CM6?
