Guest StevenHarperUK Posted March 28, 2011 Report Posted March 28, 2011 How to Install a Custom ROM on the ZTE u-v880 or GEN2 device STOP This page is for ZTE u-v880 devices that have the new style memory layout [GEN2] blades. The [GEN1] Thread for installing ROMS is here : http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-the-zte-blade/ This means that [GEN2] BLADES that use the baseband of 0x02600000 and they can use anything on this page If your device has the old [GEN1] layout its baseband will be 0x02A00000 - and you MUST NOT install anything from this page Currently Swedish Comviq phones and also Bulgarian phones (that are 2.2) MAY be GEN2 How to find out what BLADE you have (GEN1 or GEN2) You need tom install this app Ask Mr Pigfish https://market.android.com/details?id=com.apedroid.pigfish http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...ask-mr-pigfish/ (RAR file attached to first post of above link - for devices that don't have the Market) When you run the APP the first line will either be Mr.Pigfish says you have a Gen1 model or Mr.Pigfish says you have a Gen2 model If it's not Gen2 then STOP HERE! - INSTALLING A GEN2 ROM ON A GEN1 DEVICE WILL BRICK IT Before you can install with Clockwork you MUST get Clockwork onto your device. Clockwork is a replacement for the Recovery tool that ships with the ZTE Blade. If you Boot up the device while holding down the VOLUME DOWN button, the phone boots into the recovery system. The ZTE one has no use to us - so we replace it with one that is very useful. The recovery partition also contains a Linux Kernel - this is loaded before clockwork. So there are 3 mini Guides here How to Install Clockwork using Recovery ManagerHow to Install a ROM using Clockwork via Recovery ManagerHow to Install a ROM using Clockwork ManuallyHow to Revert back to the Stock ROM There is currently ONLY one Custom ROM for GEN2 devices. New users should follow the 1. How to Install Clockwork then follow 2. How to Install a ROM using Clockwork via Recovery Manager If you have just arrived here / or you want to understand some of these terms. Then you may want to cross reference with the Android Glossary Unlocking for ANY SIM You do not need to unlock your device to use any SIM, the SIM lock is separate to the ROM. You can generate an unlock code so the phone can be used with ANY SIM (see Free Version) The APN settings will need to be updated for your provider. This Guide will NOT work on ZTE Blade [GEN1], ZTE Joe (Vodaphone 845) or ZTE Racer - You may BRICK your device if you try using the files mentioned in this post. 1. How to Install Clockwork using Recovery Manager Once you have installed Clockwork - you do not need to do it again to change to another ROM. The easiest way to get Clockwork onto your Recovery system is to use ZTE-Blade Recovery Manager. However you cannot run the ZTE-Blade Recovery Manager unless you have root (Superuser). First we install z4root 1.3.0. (z4root.1.3.0.apk) This is an application - you copy the APK to your phone over USB (or just download in on your phone) then open the file from an APP that lets you browse your SDcard. There is a Filer app already on your phone, or you can download other ones from the Market (Astro / Es File Explorer) Files downloaded on the phone go to /SDCard/Downloads So here are the Steps Warning : z4root may be detected by a Virus Checker as - Trojan:Unix/Rootkit This is a false positive - Androot is designed to break the security of Android - that's why it gets detected. Download to your Phones SD Cardz4root 1.3.0 (z4root.1.3.0.apk)ZTE-Blade Recovery Manager 0.34b (check you get the right one - 0.34b)recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-blade-g2.img - not the ZIP not g1 file Check files are Good Install ASTRO File Manager from the Market Open Astro File Manager from the App Drawer - browse to the recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-blade-g2.img file Hold your finger on the file and choose Details - check the the MD5 Sum is bb9ba179fdaf20633ecc3c2ad0087c52 - if not re-download the file. Actions Install z4root.1.3.0.apk from the APK you downloadedLaunch z4root from the App DrawerChoose temporary rootUnzip ZTE-Blade Recovery Manager from the ZIP you downloadedInstall ZTE-Blade Recovery Manager from the APKLaunch ZTE-Blade Recovery Manager from the App DrawerAllow the ZTE-Blade Recovery Manager App to have Superuser RightsHit the Recovery tab.Hit the MENU button on your device and choose Update DatabaseChoose Install RecoveryIf you have more than one IMG file on the sdcard you will be presented with a list - choose recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-blade-g2.img Problems If Recovery Manager keep force closing - try:re-rooting the phone (z4root)removing the Cache of Recovery Manager (in Settings > Applications)Use a task killer to kill both Superuser and Recovery Manager That's it you have Clockwork installed: Now lets get a ROM on 2. How to Install a ROM using Clockwork via Recovery Manager We are going to use ZTE-Blade Recovery Manage to tell Clockwork what to do. However in the future you can now enter Clockwork by:In the ZTE-Blade Recovery Manager App choose Reboot into ClockworkHold down the VOLUME DOWN button when booting up the phone Swedish Spring RLS5 (Swedish_Spring_RLS5.zip) Actions Open Astro File Manager from the App Drawer - browse to the Rom Zip file you choose (Swedish_Spring_RLS5.zip) Hold your finger on the file and choose Details - check the the MD5 Sum is the same as the one shown on the thread you go the ROM from - if not re-download the file. Help it won't boot let it try for about 6 minutes before you give up. If you tried to use the Install Firmware Update and the phone won't boot, then you need to Wipe manually (Factory Reset). This you will do in clockwork [*]Remove the battery [*]Put the battery back in [*]Hold the Volume Down button turn the phone on [*]Use Volume Up / Down to move between options [*]Use Home key to select an option [*]Use Back key to go back [*]From the clockwork menu choose: wipe cache partition. [*]From the clockwork menu choose: wipe data/factory reset. [*]From the main menu choose: Reboot If this doesn't work then it could be that the ROM you downloaded got damaged. The device will go to a ClockworkMod Recovery menu screen. If you want to make a complete backup of your entire phone : use the clockwork option backup - this will put a FULL backup of your device onto the SDCard (in a directory called clockwork) [*]Use Volume Up / Down to move between options [*]Use Home key to select an option [*]Use Back key to go back Choose the 5th item "install zip fom sdcard" Choose the 2nd item "choose zip from sdcard" Choose the file "Swedish_Spring_RLS5.zip" Choose the various yes options When complete use the back button to get back to the main menu If you are moving to a new Custom ROM, you Must reset the device (this will reset the phone losing your apps and data). [*]From the clockwork menu choose: wipe cache partition. [*]From the clockwork menu choose: wipe data/factory reset. If you skip the cache wipe factory reset and the phone doesn't boot properly then you need boot back into clockwork to clear the cache and factory reset To get back into clockwork [*]Remove the battery [*]Put the battery back in [*]Hold the Volume Down button turn the phone on [*]From the clockwork menu choose: wipe cache partition. [*]From the clockwork menu choose: wipe data/factory reset. Choose the 1st item "reboot now" The phone now reboots. 4. How to Revert back to the Stock ROM You MUST get clockwork onto your device (see 1. How to Install Clockwork using Recovery Manager) Ideally you should have backed-up you device (to your SDCard in Clockwork). If you have it just a simple procedure of re-entering clockwork (boot with Volume Down held) and choosing restore from the menu. However if you didn't backup (Naughty!) then you will need to restore using a Stock ROM image. All you have to do is change the ROM ZIP file in either 2. How to Install a ROM using Clockwork via Recovery Manager 3. How to Install a ROM using Clockwork Manually You should pick the STOCK ROM that matches the ROM you had on the phone. If you have a Swedish Comviq 2.2 Gen2 phone - then the ROM you need is image (CSE_P729VV1.0.0B01-signed.zip) http://www.mediafire.com/?6wme8kejj1jj1ld Other ROMS can be found at http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...ade-stock-roms/ You MUST wipe after installing the stock rom or it wont boot. Guest kallt_kaffe Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 For the record. That STOCK ROM image (CSE_P729VV1.0.0B01-signed.zip) is only for Swedish Comviq 2.2 Gen2 phones. It has a operator specific bootanimation and 5 operator specific apps.
Guest ceslavie Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 thanks a lot for such great instructions, really appreciate it!

Guest Hkguy Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 the post is really useful, but one thing is that the recovery manager keep telling me need to install a custom recovery before you can install a new firmware, what can i do?
Guest Fadox Posted March 31, 2011 Report Posted March 31, 2011 Yeah, i can't install clock work recovery too. That's why you can't update the firmware. When i try to install the recovery it says: "Currently instaled recovery: unrecognized" What do i have to do?

Guest sm4tik Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 Thanks for the guide, it'll be a good starting point for me! Just one question about reverting my gen2 blade back to stock. If I ever need to do it, can clockwork handle the backup I got using romdump, or do I need to 1) restore clockwork backup of my original rom 2) overwrite clockwork with stock recovery using recovery manager (recovery.img from my stock romdump)

Guest hecatae Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 do you want any help with the gen1 to gen2 upgrade guide and the gen2 to gen1 downgrade guide, as it's now possible to do both.
Guest StevenHarperUK Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 do you want any help with the gen1 to gen2 upgrade guide and the gen2 to gen1 downgrade guide, as it's now possible to do both. Has the IMEI problem been sorted? If so : YES - do you want to write and own them?
Guest hecatae Posted April 2, 2011 Report Posted April 2, 2011 Has the IMEI problem been sorted? If so : YES - do you want to write and own them? the imei problem does not exist unless you try using the service tool rickywyatt submitted. I will write them later today, need images of the exact process so people do not get lost As a guide, mrradmir managed to remove the firmware check from both the T-mobile HU Eclair flasher and the Telia Sonera Sweden Flasher, Kallt_Kaffe has already posted http://android.modaco.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=1654517 how to get the radio image updated and then CW flash Swedish Spring, but it's going to get buried in that topic. mrradmir then managed to make the flasher smaller and changed the paths so the files do not need to be in C:\Windows\sysdy\

However its very impressive - when the dust settles, I am sure it will all be very positive.
Guest solidchips Posted April 3, 2011 Report Posted April 3, 2011 (edited) Sorry straying from topic, I want my blade to wake up when i press any button (menu, back, home). Any idea how to do it? Edited April 3, 2011 by solidchips

Guest xcd3199 Posted April 14, 2011 Report Posted April 14, 2011 (edited) Hi @Steven I just bought my phone yesterday... After installing the recovery it shows below the successful message then shows the message "Currently Installed Recovery: Unrecognized"... Plz help... I even tried the menu>>Update database.... Well let it be I realized whats the problem is the Recovery Manager is not able to detect the Installed Custom Recovery But I would suggest that if it isn't detecting the best way to find out is to hold the Volume Down button whie rebooting and if that takes you to Clockwork then you have successfully installed the mod and you will have to continue the modding by doing the mod manually from step 3..... I have successfully installed it man thanks for the great Tut...\m/,... I hate just one thing it calls my phone the ZTE Blade I prefer Dell XCD 35...:) One more thing can I go ahead and install the CM7 for ZTE Blade now which will get me too Gingerbread coz I already was on 2.2 and voiding my guarantee just for installing a modded 2.2 seems idiotic... Guest nofx1984 Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 I have the same "Unrecognised" problem and i can't find a solution. Plus I can't check rebooting it into Clockwork because the phone freezes on the operator logo screen everytime i try to enter recovery mode and i must take out the battery to boot it again in phone mode.
Guest nofx1984 Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 I have the same "Unrecognised" problem and i can't find a solution. Plus I can't check rebooting it into Clockwork because the phone freezes on the operator logo screen everytime i try to enter recovery mode and i must take out the battery to boot it again in phone mode. I resolved the problems i had by wiping directly from Recovery Manager, by ignoring the "unrecognised" tab and going into manual boot and manual installing.
