Guest RotoTrol_P990 Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 I don't know if this could be of help for any of you but I flashed FR15 too and I see my battery has a great life ATM. If you keep your data transfer off (I use QuickSetting for that) during standby, the phone is practically using no battery at all. Yesterday I unplugged it at 8:00 AM and at 6:00 PM it was at 78%, with frequent checking of e-mails, sporadic FB, some calls and a bit of surfing enabling 3G each time I needed it during the working day. In the evening I enabled Wi-Fi and played Angry Birds, Stupid Zombies, Labyrinth 3D, made some more calls and toyed around with the GPS just to see where I would be ending up. I managed to get to bed time - 12:00 PM - when it was at a little less than 50% (don't remember the level exactly). On the other side, if I keep data enabled it seems to drain the battery in a very short time even if I keep it only idling. I suspect that some process is constantly trying to connect to check for upgrades or who knows for what else and that is forcing the phone to switch very often to HSDPA, which I think is the reason for this massive battery drainage. Maybe if it would be possible to avoid this switching when the screen is off the battery consumption would be far less intense, I can't tell for sure (I don't even know if this makes sense at all). Anyway, using the phone this way is the perfect solution, to me at least.
Guest aaww Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Coming from FR10 to FR15 pre-bake (still waiting for my ad-free status to be activated) I've had 3 reboots in 11 hours when the phone is just sitting on the desk. Strangely enough when it has rebooted SwitchPro widget doesn't work and I can't understand why. I can only think that it's been installed onto the SD card but that's unlikely. No major battery issues but the reboot problem is concerning. Did you do a Full wipe before the upgrade ?
Guest aaww Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 okay, i managed to charge the battery to 100% but now i can confirm battery drain - 5% in ~ 25 minutes - only idle & screen off! Did you try the BatteryCalibration app ? Install it from the app store and follow the instructions. Cheers.
Guest Korumera Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Ok have 2 days of CM7 i'm back to FR and the FR15 runs just fine, battery life is also fine but the battery life i got from CM7 was a bit better tho  Thanks for your support again paul! You are doing a great job.

Cheers. ye, did that yesterday after installing the rom and charging to 100%. used the phone till it switched off automatically and now i charged it again and now i have this battery drain  edit: just to let u know; did a full wipe before installing the rom :o Edited May 5, 2011 by gin0v4
Guest davey4444 Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Did you do a Full wipe before the upgrade ? No, I didn't think that was required between these releases. I realise that there's a difference between 'required' and 'recommended' though so maybe I'll give it another go.

Guest alvari Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 JuiceDefender can keep your phone from sleeping and cause the battery drain ! try to freeze or uninstall it and see what hppens after a full battery charge. I had the same issue but i got rid of JuiceDefender and everything is good now. I think you misunderstood me there. I meant that I have not had huge battery drain (charger dropped from 100% to 86% in 12 hours, which I think is pretty good) and that I am pretty pleased with the battery life I'm getting. I think the constant mobile data (3G/H) has the greatest negative impact on battery life. I've set JuiceDefender to disable 3G/H every time the I turn of the screen or run apps I don't need data for. I've noticed this has greatly enhanced battery life on my device.
Guest aaww Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 I have found an Issue with Fr15, nothing major but it will be nice if it can be solved. After upgrading from Fr12 to Fr15 In order to get gmail updates and notifications or sync the calendar, i need to start the Account & sync manually from the Settings. If I reboot the device and do not start it(Account & sync manually), I cant get new email notifications from Gmail and the calendar isn't updating. (I do not sync contacts). I did wipe the cache, just in-case but the result is still the same. It worked for me just fine on Fr12 Paul can you take a look ?

I understand it all works fine for you now with Fr15? Did you have issues with it before as well?
Guest wapz Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 thanks aaww for your comments. i was still on the old baseband, now flasing back to the newer one to see if that makes the battery-life any better. after that i will try to reinstall it from scratch if the battery-life doesn't improve :-)

The only time I remember having lock-ups was when I used JD with the stock image.

Works fine here and I didn't touch the sync settings between versions. I did go through Fr12, Fr13, Fr14 and Fr15 though. Most of the changes are in the kernel, so I can't see how this could be caused by a Fr12 -> Fr15 upgrade. I had a problem earlier on where it wouldn't sync my Gmail account at all and clearing all the data in the world didn't fix it. It happened out of the blue without me changing any settings or upgrading or anything. My Google Apps account worked fine though. I had to wipe /data to get everything working again, so there may actually be a real ugly bug there somewhere.

If it wont work, Fr12 was perfect for me except for the lag while installing new apps, so I can always revert to it. I need to have my email 24/7 its a part of my job to be able available 24/7 via email (except for weekends). Hope the wipe will solve the issue and if not, I will write again and hopefully Paul can solve it. Thanks again.
Guest castab Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Re Battery Life: I just found this info on another site: If you need to figure out what's killing your battery, download "Spare Parts" from the Market. Once it is installed: 1.) Open the app 2.) Click on "Battery History" 3.) Click on "Partial wake usage" This should then reveal what app or service is consuming the most resources when your phone is idle. On mine it's Dialer - the blue bar is up to about 50%. However you can also look in Settings > Phone Info > Battery Use this shows me that: Cell Standby - 50% Phone Idle - 50% Not sure what to make of this but it would be interesting to compare with others having the battery life problem. J Now charging to 100% with phone off for some testing, but that cell standby and phone idle is crazy. On a comparable Galaxy s still on 2.2 these two accounted for about 5%.
Guest wapz Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) Tried a wipe to resolve this? P It's not a new issue. See this thread for example. It has been going on with Stock and pretty much all MCR releases. The best I had so far was complete stock with root, and in that case it even accounted for about 70% of the battery consumption. It's just weird that on a comparable 2.2 Galaxy S the reports are so different. Couldn't it be that since there are v10a/v10b and v10c/v10d releases for the phone these software versions also have slight differences in radio/ril that could account for some of these issues? Maybe that's why some people have these issue while others report they have perfect battery-life. Just guessing. Edited May 5, 2011 by wapz

About the phone iinfo: Cell Standby 37% Inactive Phone 36% Calls 25% Display 3% Wi-fi 2% How to solve this huge battery draining?

Guest MillyMoo Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 FR15 is my first custom Rom on my LG and it's going great so far

I don't know if it could be the cause but i'm using SPB launcher and another thing that i notice and wanted to ask about is When i open Advanced Task Killer i always find many apps in background and also if i kill them they come back... the problem is also that they take much memory leaving the device with around 75M of free ram. Killing them give me like 130M or 160M sometimes. Is it normal??
Guest castab Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Tried a wipe to resolve this? P Would that be a 'wipe data/factory reset' from ClockworkMod Recovery? Which would presumably mean I would loose all of my installed apps and configuration, yes?

Guest aaww Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Paul, It seems like when the phone is in Idle,WiFi is always on therefore might cause the battery draining issue that some people experience here. When the device is waking up after the unlock screen the wifi icon looks like it is connecting but when I logged in to my Router and reviewed the logs while the phone is waking up, there is no new handshake there(i am trying to Wireshark now to see if i am correct 100%). The LG is in Idle after a full wipe with no apps installed . Can someone Verify ?
