I've had a bit of time to try it out now. The screen is poor, grainy & unresponsive. If it wasn't for that (and the colour) it wouldn't be such a bad phone. Typing is hard, even with the stylus, because the screen is s bad. I wouldn't buy it for a present for anybody (unless I really hated them), or use it as my main phone, but I might be able to find a use for it.

have you tried a custom rom yet?

Not yet ... the stock rom actually isn't too bad ... I like what they've done with the launcher, spreading the home screens in 2 dimensions so you can go up & down as well as left & right to different screens. There's a cool little breakout game too, although it's a bit hard to control because of the screen.

There aren't many custom roms for it that I can find. I'm not even sure if I'm going to keep the phone yet either.

There's a u8100 froyo rom on xda, but I'm not sure if it works on a uk pulse mini.

The camera is much better than the blade & has a flash. More hardware buttons than the blade is a benefit too, especially the direction buttons (but they'd be no good for games, it's no joypad). The blade is better in every way apart from those, particularly the screen. It wouldn't be a bad phone if it wasn't for the screen, but that is appalling, so it is a bad phone.

not received mine yet. look forward to playing with it. i don't mind resistive screens if they are good, as they can be more accurate, esp. with a stylus.

The pulse mini's screen can't be described as good or accurate in any way. Appalling is the best word to describe it. It's hard enough trying to get the right key on the keyboard with the stylus (forget trying to type without it), never mind trying to do anything accurate.

It's not even that small for a 'mini' phone, it's almost twice the thickness of the blade, same width, just a little bit shorter, not much between them for weight.

However, the price is right, for £20 you can use it for something that doesn't require using the screen much.

yeah. the blade was originally 100+10 chfs top up here (about £70 +£7). i bought a couple since i figured i could use them for loads of things.

the same is even more true of the pulse mini, though it is a shame the screen has been reported to be so bad. still probably functions well enough as a wireless doorbell :)

At this price it's cheaper than a lot of mp3 players, 3g wifi hotspots, cameras, etc. I can probably find a use for it, if not then I can get the same price that I paid for it to recycle it (and keep the accessories), not bad because I only bought it for the sim card.

I might try loading debian on it & using it as a server :)

The screen is usable, just, but frustrating compared to a blade.

yes, incredible value. maybe we should have bought one and split the costs. i bought it just for the hardware, and you just the sim card! :)

You are right about the screen, it's possibly the worst touch screen phone I have ever tried, it's that bad that I don't think it's good value even at £20, I bought one some time ago (when they were £49) and sold it the following morning. It really was that bad.

I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemies mother or wife, definitely not for someone you care for.

Can anyone comment on the audio quality when playing MP3 or FM Radio.

There is a very noticeable background hiss on the headphones, worse than on the blade, volume is about the same. Audio quality seems fine, except the hiss. FM works well. Mp3s play fine, but FLAC isn't supported on the stock rom.

Had one of these a while, got it before the blade came out then switched to a blade, kept it for my 2nd sim since it will OTA sync the contacts with my email provider.

Try taking out the headphones out and insert them back in very quickly when music is playing.

Don't ask me why but that does make a noticble difference.

Also if you turn the FM radio on when an Mp3 is playing the Mp3 gets louder :)

I bought one for her indoors. She's not so great with technology but she was surprisingly pleased with it. For the money it's a great phone but no Blade beater.

THe resolution is poor and it's very laggy compared to the Blade, and I can't root it. Otherwise it's fine

Agreed. I backed up using Clockwork then flashed it with a custom ROM Celestial Teapot which also roots the device. Not a blade as the title says but it made my 11YO a very happy Easter Bunny!

It finally arrived today, and I have to say, I love the device! I can't believe people hate it so much.

It's pink, but not as bad as you might think - not even that noticeable from the front.

OK, the screen isn't great, but it's not that bad either.

I really wish I'd bought a couple more when I had the chance. Would be great to play around with, and I'm sure there are a few girls I know who will think the colour is an advantage.

If anyone wants to get rid of their phone, I'd be interested in buying it off them...

I'll be putting mine on ebay soon, I've put a froyo custom rom on it, just need to network unlock it & then it's getting sold. It's definitely not a blade.
