Guest glossywhite Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 If I might be permitted to 'stick my oar in' here with my own personal view....... First off, I want you to know that I'm not a thick person and I'm not unintelligent. I'm a fully qualified electrician who now works in IT and I've got various IT and Cisco qualifications but I admit that mobile phones and Android baffle me - and I also admit that I'm not really interested enough to find out more about them. I bought an Orange San Francisco but didn't like all the preinstalled crap that Orange had put on so I did some research and found this site. I tried one ROM but something didn't work so I tried a second ROM and something different didn't work. I then tried a third ROM and something else completely different didn't work - so I went back to stock Orange ROM but manually got rid of the things I didn't like or want and so far, that seems the best option for me. My point is that the devs and other enthusiasts seem to be falling over themselves to do something new or to move forward at all costs, without actually perfecting the basics first and making something that is 100% reliable, 100% of the time. As far as I'm aware, there's not ONE ROM that can just be installed and left alone to work perfectly - instead, we get r1, r2, r3.....r11 and topics grow from one page to 20, 30 or more pages as a fix for one problem breaks something else. In my humble opinion, what we need is one ROM, one page, this is it, it works. The wifi works, the camera works, the music works, etc., etc., - everything just WORKS all of the time. Then, after that one, hack and develop all you like, but let's just have one, solid, reliable ROM to begin with. No offence meant to any hard-working devs or enthusiasts, just an end-user's opinion. I could not agree with you more if I wanted to. I'm sure it is not quite as simple as you outline, but I wholeheartedly concur - the devs start out by making an amazing ROM but often with a few things borked or half working... but suddenly a new ROM is released (incompatible as an upgrade from the last one) and the current ROM is abandoned altogether. By no means do I profess to be an expert on ROM cookery, having never done it, but I do believe that the devs on here could maybe join forces as a team - something akin to Cyanogenmod, and STICK to what they're focusing on for the release, and deliver it in time. If there is no team, and no set goals, then this is likely why ROMs get dropped in the blink of an eye. I'm eternally grateful to ALL the devs, regardless. I'm running Swedish Spring RLS5 and it is great!
