Guest derffie Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 corvus5 is excellent running oc on the Vega too mine never crashes or reboots. It is very fast and I'm happy with it. I was a bit frustrated with Paul's roms especially after having to pay 9.99 but now others are designing amazing stuff I wouldn't change it for any other tablet. Agreed! Your comment is spot on, for me its the corvus5 with the honeycomb theme, pretty damn good!
Guest derffie Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 For info Mint .... putting custom ROMs on the Vega does NOT void your warranty as according to Advent their warranty covers the hardware regardless of what firmware you put on it. I have not put this to the test myself but previous posts on the subject have always stated this to be the case. I would however suggest that if you intend to seek a refund/replacement because a certain feature is not working then you should at least test it on the stock ROM issued with the device beforehand to make sure it is not firmware causing the issue. Not to disagree with your knowledge of retail legalities, but I have myself a vega, pressie from the wife, and was mystified by its lack of facilities, frustrations followed suite, (I found this site, joined, learned how to flash and now run corvus5, lovely stuff, but I digress) phoned pcworld, and was told that flashing it, update the rom will give me the marketplace and other extras in place of the static system it came with but, heres the kicker, the guy stated that this would indeed void warranty, seems pcworld have not got the same policies as we thought....

I know! Wierdos! I think sales and tech staff are incoraged to give misinformation! Its easy to get lost in the mine field of pcworlds dogma!
Guest derffie Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 Can't you flash it back if required ? Regards Jerry I did, just to test, before I did the corvus5 so yep, not a stress really!

It is the case I can confirm it as a techguy (sorry knowhow clinic specialist), the first thing I will do when its brought into store and its said to be "faulty "is reflash the stock rom onto it, and if it fixes the problem advise next time it will be a chargeable service
Guest Sanddancer75 Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 I walked into PC World last weekend. I was hoping to buy a dock, but just wanted to see what they had in the way of tablets too (I wanted to see something running 3.0). I gave up searching for them & when the 3rd assistant asked if I needed help I asked him where the tablets were. As he walked me over to then he started pushing the Xoom. I mentioned that we have 2 Vegas in the house & I was after a dock. He said that didn't stock docks & asked if the Vega was any good. It's strange that it's their own brand but their staff know nothing about them. If I had any questions about them I'd rather ask them on Twitter, where they know the product.
Guest Soulcalibur76 Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 I think PCWorld people doesn't know s@*# about their products, policies and T&C's. Always has been. I told them that i know its beyond the 28-day returns policy thing but "what if" there was someone out there who wanted to return the Vega after the 28-day period simply because they are not happy and the tablet doesn't live up to what is written or claimed on the info sheets. etc.? and have they not thought of say perhaps the person is just trying to "wait and see" if the problems/errors/troubles are just "one off" and that a firmware update might come magically and sort everything out? well, too bad i think the answer to those questions are a big fat NO. PCWorld guys are really helpful and polite but when it comes to customer services and after sales support they are RUBBISH!!!!!!7 And also the problem with Android tablets that are coming out nowadays is that....the OS and the whole Android sysem is very much fragmented. what do i mean exactly? Well, I have had several Android devices in the past year and even though its really good with customisations and multitasking the overall performance and "feel" of the OS is still not as good as Apple's. The updates come very often, there are too many devices with different specs and no dedicated and a "separate" (I.e differenciation) apps and/or games for smartphones and tablets unlike Apple's. That is what i meant by being fragmented in respect on these issues. The 3.0 OS and Android Market is good but is still miles away from Apple.
Guest add.thebad Posted May 2, 2011 Report Posted May 2, 2011 looking into it this german company does seem to thing 3.0 is comming to their smart book 360 which is a vega clone this vedio 43 seccond mark it was said for late april then pushed back to the first week in may so maby with German efficiency we might see something????

If only all shops would give us all a few months to decide whether or not we actually want the item we've purchased, you'd be a lot happier. As you're off to the fabulous land of all things Apple, why don't you stop with your whining in an android arena, then the rest of us could be a little closer to happiness.
Guest CoWPlagued Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 This is just laughable, if a product does turn out to be not as sold you are indeed welcome to a refund irrespective of the time you have owned it, but in this case that just isn't true. The stock Vega build is restrictive to give it decent stability and battery life. People including you choose to void your warranty to try and gain unadvised functionality. Your fragmented android argument although somewhat founded, is like saying Linux is rubbish because anyone could produce a bad distro. Go buy redhat enterprise.... in this case, go with a high end android tablet by a premium supplier like HTC or better yet keep out of the open environment of android and live in the closed and secure apple world, I chose apple over android for my 90 year old gran and it seems it would be perfect for you. This thread is goingnowhere, and although some people are trying to claw it back towards honeycomb there are already threads on this.
Guest warriorscot Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 The division of DSG that have produced the vega have stated that flashing different ROMs doesn't void the warranty and if something does go wrong you can reflash it to stock or if it wont boot up then it wont matter as they aren't going to try fixing a nonbooting device. What would void the warranty is overclocking and hardware modification so that is something to keep in mind. Basically its a simple dint ask dont tell. They don't ask what ROM is on it and they almost always will ask you to reflash it to stock.
