Guest geegeethatsme Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 (edited) @mikeeo19 If your PC can see there's a device on the end of the cable all may not yet be lost. What follows is a bit long-winded and time-consuming but it's worth it if it recovers £100 of phone. You'll firstly need to say Goodbye to Windoze for a while. Download Ubuntu and install it on a CD or USB stick (preferred). The instructions to do that will be on the Ubuntu site. The latest version is 11.04 but I personally recommend Karmic Koala v9.10 which should also be available. If not 11.04 should be fine, its just that I haven't used it. Anyhoo, once you've got a bootable CD or USB stick, you can boot your PC from that. (From the setup menu that is accessible when your PC fires up - press F2 or F12 or Esc or something while the PC is booting - you should see the message briefly about which key to press as the first screen on the PC when you start it. Then navigate within setup to the boot sequence menu and choose the CD drive or USB option rather than the hard disc. F10 or similar to exit and the PC will continue to boot.) It will of course now boot into Ubuntu. When prompted choose the Try Ubuntu option NOT the Install Ubuntu option. Don't worry, the trial only lasts as long as you have the PC switched on. When you're done and remove the CD or USB, your next start will be back into Windoze (except that having been Ubuntu'd you'll never want to go back!). Now, because Ubuntu and Android share the same Linux roots, you don't need to faff about with drivers. As soon as you connect your phone to the PC via a USB cable, it should be visible and accessible to you over the PC. If not, you may need to mount the sdcard - hopefully not, but if so do that from the right click dropdown menu, or go into gparted from the System or Apps menu on the desktop - on Karmic Koala it's in the panel at the top of the screen, don't know about 11.04. I suggest you then go right back to basics and restart the whole rooting/superuser/flashing process using one of the guides in the Pinned Topics according to whether you have a Gen1 or Gen2 phone. Make sure you check and double-check MD5s all the way, and I suggest you use SS5 as the zipped custom rom to try. Like I say, a bit tortuous, but it might just save the phone for you.
