Qik - recording video at 800x480

Hi,

I recently downloaded the Qik Video Connect app from Market. I was very pleasantly surprised that the video was recorded in a higher resolution than what can be achieved using the built-in camera app. It records at 800x480 - not sure whether it is full 30 frames per second - maybe more like 20-25, but to me it looks much better that what I can get from camera app in JJ (640x480 - and the quality seems worse).

Anyway - what do you think? Is it possible to go even higher? Or is this the limit?

Sorry if this is really obvious and already known.

I can say you are my personal hero..why you ask?? I stopped using CM7 because video recording is poor on that rom. But now I have an alternative for a buggy camera app..hehe..JUST GREATTTT!

Help me if I'm wrong, I can't get it to record a video because of streaming problems....And there is no 800x480 option only low, normal and high. I couldn't get it work so don't know how high high is...

I can't find any store options for video, I think films get streamed directly to Qik servers in which case it's a silly app because you can't save any videos you take on your phone...

I personally have no problem recording without streaming. Afterwards it really tries to upload the video whenever you are connected to the internet. It saves the files in the same folder as the standard camera app. I guess you could record the video when offline, then copy it somewhere else and then delete both the original and the "web" copy inside qik with the little trashbin icon, thus preventing the program from uploading. High setting is 800x480 and you can definitelly record when offline.

It's a shame that there is no option to upload only over wifi.

I've downloaded version .0.8.27 from Market and it definitely doesn't record to storage on phone.... When offline I press record and it immediatly stops! When I'm online it does the same with message "sreaming in progress"...

Am I missing something?

In the menu I choose "Record & share" but like I said, it doesn't work...

Same version from Market. Try pressing the button more than once. Mine says " streaming busy" a couple of times, then " location updated". Afterwards records just fine.

Definitely not a replacement for standard camera app and it's not going to make the weak camera any better either....

For some reason it doesnt work for me, it seems to make the sound of the normal Camera (i.e. when taking pictures) rather than recording

The video is pretty nice, it's a shame about the audio though. I wish it would use a higher sample rate, even 22050hz would sound worlds better.

Could someone give me a guide in how to use this program. I have CM7 2.3 n57 ROM, I installed Qik Connect and created an account, how do i record a video?

I've now ditched Qik, lgcamera is much better

Settings to use:

Video Resolution: 800x480

Video Encoder: H.264

Video File Format: MPEG-4

Video Bitrate: 2Mbit

Video Framerate: Auto

Audio Source: Microphone

Audio Encoder: AAC

Audio Samplerate: 16000 (if you set it higher, it seems to default back down to 16khz anyway..)

Audio bitrate: 51200

With these settings I get pretty nice, smooth, artifact free video. 16khz still isn't the best sound, but it's miles better than 8k :o

My only problem with lgcamera is that it doesn't want to save these settings, so I keep having to put them in again :/

[edit] I recorded a little test with lgcamera, download it here. I used the settings above.

Odd.. my phone just shows a white screen when I tap the record button and the file saved cannot be played!

May I ask what ROM you are using? I'm on CM7 N57 (Gen1)

For me I dont think it even records, I press the record button at the 800x400 resolution the video feed freezes and when I press stop, it goes back to normal. On viewing the file is ~10kbs in size so something is wrong.
