Noob Image Editing Question - Now Gimp Is Winding Me Up Too!

NEW POST

Okay: I've made a dock to go with my homescreen :D

I've made it simple: a black bar (480x84) with 50% transparency.

Now, how would I go about finding any html notation of that colour?

In gimp I filled the image black and (this is the bit that doesn't sound right to me :/) made the layer at 50% opacity.

Now when I save it as a PNG (are there any better options in terms of layers/channels etc?) and display it in launcherpro it looks fine!

But in gimp when I use the select colour tool it just comes up with 000000 as the notation :/ - the same as solid black.

Basically I am asking because I am trying to get minimalistic text to match various other widgets...

Cheers in advance! :D

EDIT: AAARGH NOT GIMP!!!! In the tools options dialogue box, I have it set to opacticity at 50%, but then afterwards in colour picker it says 49%!!!

EDIT: Okay, changed it to 51%, and now it is actually 50% ;)

EDIT: ARRRRRRRRGRHH!!!! The Phantom music control's background is at 50% opacity and now the image (which i saved as 51% but gimp tells me is 50% is actually slightly lighter! (hinting it may actually be 51%! AAARGH

OLD POST

Hey there!

Im trying to theme my homescreen a bit at the moment: a lovely minimal blue :o

So i have extracted the icons from the launcherpro apk file and changed them to blue:

But when I load them up in launcherpro (using custom icon from the gallery) - they come up as too small! ( smaller than the default launhcerpro ones, even though they are the same, only a different colour!)

I edited them with gimp and just saved them over the original: I didnt touch any canvas settings!

<img src="hhttp://android.modaco.com/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=72261" alt="My Failed Attempt"/>

Does anyone know how to rebuild an apk? ( I wonder if case they are default they are for whatever reason displayed differently) :D

HERE ARE THE BLUE ICONS: LauncherProIconsBlue.zip

Ive also started on another icon pack I ound. They dont look as nice, Imo. All credit to the original devs.

here is a a zip file of the ones I have "themed" (made blue :L) also contains white ones of those I have not "themed" Icons_White_Some_Blue_.zip

in answer too ur question no

but quickpic allows u too adjust the selection area around icons (use it for GO Launcher Dock Icons)

and enlarging the selection area makes my icons larger, may solve you needing to recompile an apk

I just realized that the hdpi Icons in launcher pro are 84px x 84px - so unless I stretch them they wont appear full size!

Launcherpro Must stretch them itself...

None the less I want to start theming Frankish's battery mod he mad for Cm7 to go with this homescreen.

But I dont see this as being possible unless I can rebuild the apk.. O.o

Time for some heavy Googling I guess

Otherwise I'll have to try and build the theme from scratch (using most of Frankish's icons, of course :))

EDIT: how did I forget outk!!?

Just wish you could use outk to from custom batteries: (I wanted to make the images myself...)

will google outk idk what it is :P

but have you tried opening the apk in winrar (not sure its even possible) but you could just replace the images and it would rebuild it. I'll get an apk and have a look.

Edit: Okay made a copy and extracted the apk, edited some of the battery images, opened the original apk in winrar and added the replacement files, the apk resaved, as soon as my backup finishes i'll add the apk see what happens.

outk is ultimate online theme kitchen: It great- but its not enough for some more "complex" themes.

And yes: Ive been extracting with 7zip, editing, and adding them back to an archive with the apk extension with no compression (if thats what "store" is)

But when I try to install I get a parse error.

I think it is to do with signing the apk: Which I have googled and I think I have found the way to do so now: will try later

If all you are doing is replacing images; you do not need to sign the apk. Using a program such as 7-Zip, simply drag and drop your replacement images into the appropriate folder. No resigning is required.

I couldnt get it too instal either so maybe it is a little more complicated than it looks i'll google around a little.

Great hit on that theme kitchen btw.

Does it work for you? I fail at it

I take it it doesn't matter what apk you are changing?

I did find a tool for doing it: ill try that now: and see if it works.

Mushroom_Lord, how did you paint the launcherpro icons blue?

I tried in Photoshop but I guess my PS skills aren't the best..

can you upload the 5 of them, painted blue?

thanks

Err... If I still have them  Let me look.

Just remember they come out small...

And for future reference I used GIMP, set the tool mode to darken only and applied a gradient

Uploaded the zip file with the icons: shoved in all the ones I made blue.

They look nice, but they are TOO SMALL! O.o

If anyone knows an icon pack that is similar to that of launcherpro (transparent background, single colour/basic colour icon)but of higher resolution please notify me!

I would be happy to start theming them!

hey man, I was able to reproduce same size icons using Photoshop.

what I did:

extracted the basic LP icons and painted one of them blue.

saved it and yes it was small compared to the original.

I opened it once again in Photoshop and used CTRL+A (aka select all)

copied to clipboard, and when I made a new image (photoshop automatically takes the last measurements copied to the clipboard) the size given was like 60 height and 50 something width.

I used Photoshop's Image Size function and set the Height to 84 while the width was 80, transparent background.

result was same size!

Do you mean the same size as the default ones in launcherpro when they are at their full size?

And the image size 50x60 or whatever must have ignored the transparent pixels

And is this a fancy resize tool, does it retain the image quality or not?

Sorry, I've never used photoshop :L

Any help with my new problem?

Your thread is pretty messy, I have no idea what your new and old questions are.

Paint.net is pretty good at handling png alpha transparencies.

Now, how would I go about finding any html notation of that colour?

html notation for a colour is just red green & blue values. when using html you need to set opacity using css (version 3, not for older browsers)
