Who told you that?

USB mode has nothing to do with flashing the Advent updates. Just install in accordance with the instructions.

I dont understand??

I have tried to put it into recovery mode with the 6secons, 2seconds ect.. but no luck, but then tried using the recovery icon included with R8. - but still no luck, cmd shows no USB device connected. (due to it being in USB Host i believe)

recovery icon will only put you into clockwork mod recovery and only if its installed ( which i doubt as you zapped everything  , do you have it plugged in when attempting to put it into recovery with the button combo?

Hold down the power button for more than 6 seconds, then try the recovery. That should solve you're problem.

Got same problem here. After using host_mode.apk en putting the vega on slave needed to reboot. After reboot nothing happened, only backlight turned on and thats it. Hold the power button for more than 6 seconds than i could youse the recovery. But now i dont have USB Debugging. Laptop doesnt recognize the tablet.

Goodluck

EDIT :

Misinformation, I apologise, read the title and assumed - it comes up often.

How to actually fix the problem.

- firstly, you're not stuck in host mode

- the fix on my website will get you back to slave mode, but it won't get back the usb switch

- in order to get the usb switch back, reinstall r8

- this can be done by first getting into slave mode by using the fix on my website

Some explanation :

The fix is intended to fix Black screens of death that arise due to rebooting when you're using r8 and in host mode. In order to fix this, my fix just reflashes slave mode, in turn fixing the problem.

I know you're not suffering from a black screen of death, but the tool will get you back into slave mode ^^.

From there, installing r8 will restore the usb mode app that you lost through wiping your data. As far as I'm aware, r8 will not wipe your device.

By doing this, you'd device will be as it is now, just with whatever was removed from r8, reapplied ^^

Again, sorry for just assuming with my original post.

Hey Gregga,

All hope is not lost, the fact you have your vega stuck in USB host is fine. Basically the fix is very easy. Please read the entire instructions, before attempting this so you don't mix anything up, and so you have a basic idea of what you're doing before you do it

Plug in the Power Cable to the Mains.

Plug in your USB from your Vega to your Laptop/Computer whatever you'll be using to perform the restore.

Go to here : http://www.myadventvega.co.uk/

1.From there click the Downloads tab.

2.If you've already installed the adb drivers go straight to step 15, otherwise read on

3.Then download the USB drivers and the Full software Update image

4.Extract the USB drivers to a place you will remember

5.Click Start, right click Computer and go into Properties.

6.Click Device Manager on the left hand side.

7.Find Nvidia Harmony or Android Composite ADB Device

8.If you have Android Composite ADB Device right click it and select uninstall, tick the box which says delete the driver software for this device and click OK. Click scan for new hardware at the top of the page, hover your mouse over all the buttons and you'll find it. Let it run and you will now have Nvidia Harmony. Right click it and select Update.

9.Click Browse My computer for driver software

10.Click Let me Pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

11.Click Have Disk

12.Browse to the folder which contains NVIDIAUSB.inf, it would be in the folder you extracted earlier BUT DON'T CLICK THE NVIDIAUSB.INF Instead just click open.

13.Now you should have a new option called Android Debug Bridge Interface. Select it and click Next

14.It may say the driver is not digitally signed, select continue installation.

15.Now we will put the vega in recovery mode so turn your vega off.

16.Now hold the Back button for two seconds, then whilst continuing to hold the back button, hold the power button for two seconds. Then release the power button still holding the Back button for a further two seconds and release.

17.Now unzip the other file you downloaded, the stock rom and again put it in a place you will remember.

18.Double click the software image exe file.

19.If it says it can't find the device, boot the vega back up and then shut it down and attempt step 16 again. Keep trying this until it finds the device. You will know it's found it when it starts automatically installing.

20.Let it run, after about 5 minutes it will ask you to press enter. You're vega will then begin to boot, but it won't.

21.After about 10 seconds of your Vega being on a black screen turn it back on.

22.Congrats. Sorry about the length of this. It's basically a brain dump of everything I've learnt through trial and error myself. Those 21 steps never fail me :)

Hope this helps :P

Sometimes 6-8 seconds is not enough. I needed to press 20-30 seconds sometimes.

And make sure the power is plugged in. My Viewpad refuses to go into NVFlash recovery without power plugged in.

OH MY GOD THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH

I WAS GOING TO TAKE MY VEGA BACK TODAY BECAUSE I INSTALLED A USB MODE SWITCHER OFF THE MARKET AND IT BRICKED IT AND LEFT IT IN USB HOST MADE I THOUGHT CRAPP :(

this seroisly saved my life

EDIT:https://market.andro...+Xvision&c=apps thats the thing i installed that bricked it. was wondering if anyone that knows how could report the application as i know its for another device but i dont see how this bricks it as it was working fine until i started the app

PS i had Corvus 5 and still done have adb or sdk or i just have the usb drivers for the recovery mode which i got off myadventvega.com and the standard nvidia vega drivers that windows put on itself which dont show up in device manager, p.s. i installed corvus5 by using evilbobbins you tube video of flashing without a pc ( allot easier if you have no idea when it comes to drivers

The USB Mode switcher in the Market that you used works by modifying the Kernel and so will work on just one hardware and kernel version. This has been noted a few times in the forum here that it can only be used with MoDoCo R8 and if used with anything else (i.e. Corvus 5), it will lock the Vega needing a totally fresh install.

I don't think it is the fault of the USB Mode switcher when it is intended for a specific ROM varaint and locks the system when used with something else.

ohhhh thanks

one last thing i dont know, im am new to this kernal thing and have some questions

1.what is a kernal

2.what are the beneits of changing or updating it

3.is it easy to update and should i update when i already have vegacomb 9n

Kernel is the generic term for the core of the operating system. The kernel changes when you put on different ROM's (i.e. stock as shipped on the Vega, Modaco R8, Corvus 5, Vegacomb). If you have put on Vegacomb, you have already gone through that process. You would not make changes independently of the ROM you are using as you need to have a package where everything ties together (hence using a utility designed for one ROM / Kernel will brick the Vega if used on another).

With Vegacomb 9n you are already on the cutting edge of Vega Rom / Kernel development.
