Guest yabbas Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 Similar issues to what others experienced. Inconsistency is the key - even when I mentioned the what the OP got from CS, it's now a Code 2. I told them the problem was charger related. PC World Romford offered to replace the charger with a new one from the box, unfortunately all the chargers they had in every "new box" were still from 2010/11 (mine was 2010/10) and the same problem exists. They told me to try Lakeside, as its a Megastore that gets new stock in all the time (so possibility of having a charger from a later unit was much better there.) Lakeside weren't helpful at all (like the Beckton store, they're useless and clueless!) First bloke multi-metered the charger "12V - nothing wrong with it". Err yeah, I know that. So I showed him the problem directly and he agreed there was an issue. Told them that a few people replaced their chargers with Maplin units that were better regulated and I didn't wanna fork out a few quid for a charger as I was a cheapskate - could they replace with one of their new units. Answer: No - they gave me the phone number for Customer Services, who Code 2'ed it and promptly came over to my house 2 days later to collect the unit in a large box. [i can live without the Vega for a while if they fix the issue!] The driver came, and opened a large foam padded box to put the items in (I just gave the Vega and charger, nothing else.) I informed the driver that the Vega would rattle around in the foam box and may break - to which point he replied "it's ok - if it breaks you get a new one" .... (hint: PC World - you need to change your courier agency, they seem to have no regard for item collections!) 5 days so far, I'll let you know how it goes...if they don't fix it then it's a return with the money invested on a transformer methinks! Guest bearded1 Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 i just walked in the to the pc world in worcester oh, and i noticed that the one i bought to replace it had a new charger btw
Guest Graham Macleod Posted June 1, 2011 Report Posted June 1, 2011 i took my vega in yesterday - you may remember the screen issues it was having.. as it was bought in december i was told that there was a no questions asked recall on all from that time and i got a full 250 quid refund! so then i bouht a brand new one for 200! not sure why i did that though as i am currently typing this from my asus transformer.. do i really need 2? i dont think so.. Which store was it? PC World, Dixons or Currys. Did you call first and set it up? Sorry for all the questions but I'd love to do the same,. So far I'm not getting much in the way of help from PC World, just an unspecified time for an unspecified, and probably ineffective 'fix' by mail order. How did you do it?

Sorry for all the questions but I'd love to do the same,. So far I'm not getting much in the way of help from PC World, just an unspecified time for an unspecified, and probably ineffective 'fix' by mail order. How did you do it? on monday i went into the worcester pc world and went up to a chap with a tie in the demo area who said 'my techdesk (or whatever they are called) will be able to help' so i went over. there was an old couple with a vista laptop and the chap at the desk was spinning some bull about £40 to send it off before diagnosis could even start.. honestly i had to keep myself in check and not just say he was an idiot and that i could fix it in 5-10 mins, and i reeeeaaaally wanted to stop them and fix it before they drove off but thats besides the point.. i told the chap i had bought it from the currys website in december and that the screen was all shonky, and that i had called months back about it to the pc world business line by accident who said that all december units had been recalled. before i had a chance to show him my screen he said 'we have been told to recall all these units no questions asked' and took it off me, refunded the £250 and told me that there was no stock left in store but that there was in the bigger currys store in the trading estate. i headed off and got a new one for £200 then thought 'what am i doing - i have an asus transformer and dock - and took it back today for another refund! so really easy - i just walked in.. incidentally my transormer gor 3.1 OTA this morning.. resizable widgets and video editing application! hurrah! my post with the pics of the screen issue are here: http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...e/#entry1576727 posts 1 and 7. it seemed to go after warming up.. wierd..
Guest worto03 Posted June 2, 2011 Report Posted June 2, 2011 thanks for all the info - that explains quite a bit - your screen issue is much worse than the 'crap when charging' issue I have. If my screen looked like yours did in your screen shots I'd have knocked them out if they'd not offered to sort it! I might just try another charger but all of the ones I've seen have replaceable ends for different sized holes which I don't want - anyone seen a charger which works without the multiple adapters on the end? Cheers, worto.
Guest grandmasterethel Posted June 4, 2011 Report Posted June 4, 2011 Just been into PCWorld Poole, and I informed the chap in the 'Knowhow' department of the issues with the digitiser on my Vega. I told him that many others had reported the same issue, and that they had been told it was a code 05. He told me "It's definitely not a code 05" and promptly shipped it off to the repair centre. Honestly I can live without it for a while, but I hope they actually repair the fault, rather than sending it back (Today is exactly 6 months after I bought it)
Guest HugoQueiriga Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 (edited) Just a quick update. So went back with my Vega after it came back from repairs, told them about the power issue and the double tapping. Explained it maybe a power ac issue, so the store manager said he had received a new batch of Vegas and we tried one of their Ac and boy did my Vega go crazy pressing a key would cause the letter to be continuously typed. It became unusable. After seeing this he gave me the option of waiting for new batch of Vegas or swap it for something else, chose iPad 2 but waiting list of 2 weeks, as they just got the Asus Transformer in and as I did not want them to change their mind I picked up the Asus. It is a really nice unit, they also refunded me the case for my vega which was great. Edited June 14, 2011 by HugoQueiriga
Guest Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 Hi guys i work for currys and cant believe all these stores are so inconsistant with the returns policy its so crazy. With known issues like this it should be very simple to get it replaced there and then. If anyone has a particulaly bad experiance give me a message i jight be able to point you in the right direction.

Mine is in for repair for the second time at the min - I tested in store & rejected as the fault hadn't been fixed. If / when it fails again I will seriously consider a Transformer as they are seriously nice pieces of kit.
Guest Qwertymon Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 it is now a code 2 product, it used to be code 5, this changed about a month ago in store.
Guest omniajet13 Posted June 14, 2011 Report Posted June 14, 2011 Please can you tell how to differentiate between a new batch tablet and an old batch tablet
Guest Qwertymon Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 did you buy it before jan, or after thats the only way I can tell you ;), whats the version number on the box
Guest gitf@ce Posted June 15, 2011 Report Posted June 15, 2011 Mine was collected for repair today... the guy said it would be returned by Friday 24th. The lower left of the screen had become so sensitive (with or without charger), that it was impossible to switch from alpha to numeric keyboard.
Guest omniajet13 Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 @ qwertymon i boughtt it on ebay. pretty good deal but there is no version number on the box. does that mean it is an earlier version?/ i was told it was bought 5 months ago so i guess january

When it comes back, make sure you test it in store and if you're not happy, they will have to declare it as 'repair reject'. This means that they have 28 days from the ORIGINAL collection date to repair to your satisfaction or replace / refund. They may tell you that it has to go to repair 3 times but I was told by my local store manager that if it is under 1 year old, the 28 day rule applies. If you haven't already, make sure you take a SD card with you with Multitouch Visualizer on it as your device will have had the ROM flashed.

I haven't dealt with a store, I purchased it online from Dixons. They collected it from my works, so I guess I won't have the opportunity of testing it first ;) I flashed to the latest official Advent rom, and purposely installed Multitouch Visualizer for them to use for testing (I wrote a note of course). My screen had become so obviously flawed... I just hope they agree and send me a new one! Thank's for the heads up on the 28 day rule.
Guest Unipete Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 (edited) Finally managed to get in to Currys to pick up the Vega that has been in for repair twice now. Tested it in the store and........, you guessed it, the bloody thing was still faulty. They'd removed the screen protector and really scuffed up the back of the case, (the vega has lived in the folio case since I bought it), and they'd flashed some crappy ROM version on it, (it had the phone signal indicator on the top bar). Anyway, I still remained calm, (despite being incandescent with rage) and they immediately replaced it for a new one which I tested and it was fine. The warranty even begins again from today. So finally, a result. Seems a pity now that I bought a Transformer on Monday!! Doh!! Edited June 16, 2011 by Unipete
Guest yabbas Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 (edited) Booked in now for the 3rd time!!! Was told that I had to go through the 28 day process before anything could happen - and by anything, they mean replace like for like - they won't even allow a refund, return or exchange for a better product. So much for manufacturer's warranty ... I always assumed you could go in and get a straight swap! Unhappy to say the least, it almost feels like they're trying to put me off getting it sent back ... They KNOW it won't come back within the 28 day period, I was even told that it wouldn't come back within that time. I just have to suck it up and wait till the coming Friday...which for all intents and purposes is completely unecessary, cumbersome, and just plain frustrating. Surely it costs them money to keep picking up the same item by courier and sending it back by courier?? Meh - decided to tell my story to the local PCWorld store, they seemed a lot more helpful. As soon as the 28 day period hits I can apparantly get issued with a voucher from the Knownothow team and use it instore for anything. *sighs* Gonna wait and see how this pans out. Guest yabbas Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 A big "thank you" to PCWorld's store customer services. A big **** you to DSG's Knowhow, and their phone non-support team. The third attempt at repair (lawks - ALL they needed to do was replace the charger!) and they once again decided to reflash the firmware. The repair was carried out on the 26th day, but the device would be with me 1 week later. I was told that because the repair was within the 28 day period (regardless of when the device would reach me) then I would not get a refund (before that, they told me that it had to be in my hands within 28 days!) At this stage I was just mighty annoyed at the whole affair. Literally all they needed to do was replace the charger, instead - they got a courier to visit me 6 times, paid their so-called team money to reflash the firmware 3 times, got me to stay in on all 6 occasions, got me to visit 2 PCWorld stores 3 times and ignore all my advice on what steps to take to remedy the affair. I can't quite imagine what it must have cost them! At the end of it, my local PC World were amazingly friendly and helpful beyond measure. They took back the Vega, and even the dock and Vega case! In return, I added a few more moolahs and bought the Eee Pad Transformer and am typing this with difficulty on the crappy Asus keyboard attachment :) (Am I happy? HELL YES!) Perhaps Vegaccs are listening - DUDES .. replace the frikken transformer.
Guest Unipete Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 Sorry to hear you were messed around again by the 'don't know how' team but glad to hear there has been a resolution to this at last!! I bought a transformer whilst waiting to pick up the last botched attempt at repairing my vega, (which they then replaced for a new one which is fine). I now have two android tablets and the missus now wants the vega, (she would as she bought it for my birthday earlier this year), so I don't get my birthday present again this year.!! DSG really need to sort out the screen and/or the charger issue and make sure the the DSG group whether on or offline deal with these problems in the same way!!
