Guest jhew Posted February 16, 2003 Report Posted February 16, 2003 my 5p's worth:..... I had been waiting for ages to get a new phone to replace my beloved (imho) 8210. I knew I wanted more functionality, including the ability to play music files. I considered the 7650, but concluded that it didnt have everything I was after, and well, was just far too big, being the 1980's retro throwback brick that it is. I'd heard rumours about the p800 at the time, so checked that out too. I was wondering whether I shoud wait for it, or just get the SPV. Eventually, after considerable research, I plumped for the SPV and am very glad that I did. At the end of the day it still resembles a mobile phone, u can use it and type messages with one hand, and has all the features I was looking for. Plus it fits in your pocket, so you dont need a kangaroo to follow u around to carry the phone in it's pouch. The p800, for me, is just too big, too expensive, and too PDA'ish for what I wanted, and on a sidenote, I was a bit wary about that pulldown keypad flap breaking. Yeah sure, the SPV has it's faults, and some are rather annoying, but at the end of the day I'm glad I decided to get one, and am very happy with it.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 16, 2003 Report Posted February 16, 2003 Is it true the P800 doesn't have a t9 onboard?
Guest amo Posted February 16, 2003 Report Posted February 16, 2003 I dont think so as the main data input method is handwriting recognition. Trust me, its very VERY good. I didnt have to go through a setup or learning process for the software to learn my handwriting, it just picked it up immediatly. And it was fast!
Guest bibon Posted February 16, 2003 Report Posted February 16, 2003 Is it true the P800 doesn't have a t9 onboard? No it isn't. The handwriting recognition is very very fast indeed... :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 Ah ok cool, however as has been pointed out thats not too useful when you need to quickely bang out a SMS, got to love the one-handed useability of the SPV
Guest amo Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 It even has a rumble pack built in for force feedback for games!
Guest xanadu Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 the new phone will be running Opera as standard. So, users get Java, Flash, and access to every site on the net The P800 does not support Java or Flash. Also it only has a 12 bit 4096 colour display. The SPV has a true 16 bit 65,536 colours display, and therefore gives brighter and more true colours. The only thing the P800 offers worthwhile is HSCSD and bluetooth.
Guest Thurstan Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Had a play around with one the other day. It seems pretty cool and not as huge as I'd imagined it to feel. It's quite light and the camera's good, but it does feel like a bit of a kid's toy in a T68i stylee.
