Confused as hell

Right, basically I've got a GT540 that's running 2.3.3 CM7 - but it's quite an old version, like 6 I think and there are quite a few problems with it (3G, camera, GPS etc). So I decided I should update to the latest which is 2.3.4 (saw the post about Swiftdroid 2.0 M4).

I wanted to install it via ClockworkMod Recovery as it seemed the simplest (and I'm not the best when it comes to modding/roms etc). But I can't seem to get into the recovery menu by holding down the home button - the screen just stays blank. So I guess I don't have ClockworkMod Recovery installed?

I've searched around the forums and everyone keeps getting referred back to this post which A seems out of date and B goes on about kernels, overclocking and black onyx (of which I know nothing) and C is badly written.

If someone's got the time to put simply for me, how to either get clockworkmod recovery onto my GT540, or another simple way to flash it I'd be very grateful. I'd love to be able to use 3G, GPS and my camera.

Thanks in advance.

For extra info:

I'm on O2 in the UK

My computer is Windows 7

I've got the drivers installed, but no other apps/tools.

If I hold down camera as it boots, I get a dark screen, and windows detects and installs 'Android Fastboot Interface'

OK, I've sorted it.

Drank like 10 Red Bull and read every thread on here. Sorted.

Move along, nothing to see here.

You install recovery via fastboot

fastboow -w

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

fastboot reboot

fastboot -w

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

fastboot reboot

"fastboot -w" this command is used to wipe userdata/cache and does not need to be preformed just to update the recovery partition. (This is more for when updating the system partition via fastboot)

Fastboot is not needed for installing clockwork.
