With Honeycomb being stripped down and recompiled to try and fit on the Vega ok, wouldnt the new 2.4 Icecream Sandwich Android be more suited for our beloved device?

I think you are a little confused by the different versions of android. Ice cream sandwich has not been released yet and will be at least 3.2 or more likley 4.0. The latest version of gingerbread is 2.3.4 and is basically a security upgrade fixing some issues with encryption of gapps. This is what cyanogen mod7 is based on.

ice cream sandwich is basically going to be honeycomb that also works on phones and tv, with a few more goodies thrown in, and is not going to be out for months yet. So Honeycombis the best you will get for now (and is pretty good).

Although ics should be fully open sourced hopefully so will likely be a decent improvement over ported roms when it arrives.

Ice Cream Sandwich is going (or not going) to be realead on last Q of 2011, so dont get too much excited by now.

Anyway, HC is a huge advance to all Vega developing (i think). Dont go too quick :P
