I just switched to a different Froyo Distro, and Gen2. Most of hte apps I try to restore just make the process stop "Unexpectedly".

Why does nothing seem to work for me? THis wasn't worth the hassle...

Restoring system apps cause problems problems when upgrading roms.

Titanium Backup is best for restoring user apps.

Titanium backup is a very useful app providing you know how to use it.

If upgrading from froyo to gingerbread then dont even think of restoring data, restore only apps.

I personally have had no problems going between froyo roms, but I only restore data for apps that I really need to restore data for.

Maybe you did not wipe propally when you switched roms ? Try again !

when used properly its an awesome program :D

Then again, when used properly, you might as well do all the things Titanium does on the shell - which is about as user friendly :D .

I wonder why Titanium does not feature a blacklist or at least presents prominent warnings when trying to restore system app data.

+1. Saved me on a few occasions, and the pick-list of batch processes covers all my needs.

+1 As long as system apps aren't backed up and restored.

It's fantastic otherwise.

If you use only the titanium backup on its own, there's unpredictable behaviour - random freezes, force closes etc

However, if you donate, the version you will have is guaranteed to be very stable and rock solid - it has been for me at least, at least I have the decency to support the developer by donation.

That's good karma... not everything is free and the mentality of the "gimme gimme" because its free only to find it partially works... devs need to earn their bread and butter and not live off thin-air...

All in all, Titanium Backup does the job well. :D

To each and to their own, whatever rocks your boat....

My 2cents worth

Surely I won't pay for an app that 'features' an evaluation version that freezes and in general isn't behaving well.

I really wonder why there's such a hype for Titanium. Is it because it looks 'professional' with its clogged UI and its many buttons?

Feature-wise for example MyBackup looks better to me. It can also restore system data on different Android versions. And there's a free version (for rooted devices) that just works, too.

Well... not everything is free.....

What you expect devs to live on?

They are not santa claus either....

i must say that i use the donate version as well. never bothered to play with the free one.

Yup, the free one is too much effort as when you restore you have to manually click 'install' on each app that's restored.

I'm happy to pay IF I'm sure I get value for the money AND I can test before. Titanium (Free) basically just tells me "the developer who created this does not want customers".

The developer should release a 100% stable evaluation version of Titanium and perhaps leave some "full version" functionality away. Everybody else in the Market is doing this as well.

Oh yeah, that's true! I have the paid for version. It uses a different method for backing up and restore which works fantastically. From the high rating, the free version must work fine on a lot of phones but it doesn't seem to like the Blade and hangs a lot. I can't believe I actually forgot that considering I started a whole thread on the benefits of the pro version here some time ago lol

Well... not to drag this thread on, but Titanium Free does exactly that, as pointed out by k0zmic, yeah, install each one manually, get the donate version, you can do more, devs are not going to implement full functionality into their app and then give it away for free... that's why there are limited features of an app, and that's the whole idea of "commercialism", you like it, you pay to get the full version, you don't like it, uninstall it, win win all around... that's free market :D

You can run a lot of backup and restores within the 15 minute refund window :D Considering the pro version is faster too. That's how I tested it. :o It worked fine, I bought it, it's worked fine ever since. :D

It's probably the most essential app aside from Superuser if you're rooted. I've used it on every ROM and phone. In short, it's £4 or whatever well spent. I'd go as far as to say it was a bargain.

the Donate version is very stable and reliable, and fully worth the cost. I question the logic of making the free version awful though - It's so bad it cant be used, so all it does it put people off. Surely it would be a better Idea to have a week's trial period or something...

Best app I've ever bought also, and yes the free one barely worked but I went on recommendation here and its great.

I've restored my user apps and games many many times between Froyo and Gingerbread and nothing has ever gone wrong.

interestingly enough I have a friend who tried to restore Angry Birds Rio to update to the new beach pack using the free version, his data came back but everything was invincible and he spent hours trying to get past the first level :D

I use the free version of titanium backup and find it very stable. However it never restores the app data correctly for me, I have to restore app only. Market links seem restored fine as well, despite moving from android 2.3 to 2.2

I was only restoring apps. I was able to restore some data regardless, it just crashed after. Found out I was using an older version. I had to downloadn apk as market no longer works for me for some reason. Managed to download the latest apk off the site. IT works, but I have to install them one by one which is annoying.

You need the pro version to bulk, 1-click restore.

So basically, to go by the title you gave this Topic, you slandered an app developer and his well-regarded product because you were too tight to get the Pro version, and didn't use the free version in an optimum way. Umm. Sorry if that sounds too abrupt, but you might want to be a bit more circumspect in how you introduce Topics to the Forum.
