Hullo

I have a problem, I'm using CM 6 rom version 0.40 (i think).Anyway, I am tethernig with Easytether or with wireless tethering.And I have a big problem.

Connection stalls frquently, so I've checked with on the phone with prog Network Info II and whenever the connection stalls (unable to open web pages) app says that External IP addres is in error. This happens randomly. Now you see it, now you don't.I just want to say that it's not about the stay awake function, on or off, http is stalling.

Now what is interesting is that downloading torrent will be alright, no stalling there, even if I download torrent http can still be stalling. So I have tried to put ID string from my phone browser to my laptop browser thinking that maybe my ISP is blocking or messing with my tethering, but that did not help.

I'm at my wits end here.I'm thinking that this must be Rom related problem.Because this happens randomly, no pattern.

Maybe try a different app, i.e. Barnacle wifi tether? Otherwise you might need to flash a different rom, but iirc barnacle used to work with cm6.

Thanks for suggestion, but I've already tried that.Same problem. It's not tethring software related problem, I think it's ROM related problem.

Does the problem also occur when visiting secure (https) sites? Because http uses port 80 and torrents use different ones, so if torrents and https work it might be a problem with port 80.

Afaik it's not possible for your isp to block just your laptop, so if they blocked port 80 you should have problems with your phone too and it should be all the time and not randomly.

If you still think it's your ISP you could try pdanet, it has some sort of hide tethering option but I haven't tried this myself.

To check whether it's a rom related problem you can just make a nandroid backup, flash a different rom and try to tether. If it doesn't work you can just restore the backup.

I know what port http is using, and ISP can indeed block tethering, they usually do it by browser ID (phone browser have a diferent ID than their computer brethren). But you can go around that by imputing phone browser ID to computer browser ID to fool the ISP.But in my case it did do nothing.

Anyway it seems that only browser on my laptop that tethers without a hitch is default IE 6.0, pages do stall untill 2/3 of element load, but only for a sec or two.Which is acceptable. On other browser after a minute or two of tethering everithing slows down terribl. So it appears that it's browser related.

PS

Sorry about the bad grammar.
