HELP I want to learn how to build android for the zte blade but have no idea were to start

I was mostly inspired to do it by sej7278. When they broke the battery in N105 I uploaded N104 and then sej posted a compiled version with the change rolled back. And I thought to myself 'smartarse!*, I wanna do that!' lol. By the time I'd done it though, with all the trouble I'd had I wasn't entirely confident so I figured I'd just use sej's builds. :blink: He seems to have similar goals from the rom as me so will will likely be compiling versions that appeal to me lol.

*I mean this in the nicest possible way - I was jealous lol.

Yeah I guess lol. :blink: I'm just extremely sympathetic to him right now because I can just kinda relate to his situation. I consider myself pretty good with computers - I program Windows applications as a job! And I was just stunned by how much trouble I had doing the simplest things in Ubuntu. Like I say I did manage to compile one but I wasn't brave enough to even try my version in the end lol - despite the foolproof safety net of clockwork.

Did you just follow the instructions from CM wiki or was there something else to it? I had some real trouble getting the repo synced and finally when I did, I accidentally bumped into the "this stuff is for 64bit only" warning from Makefile.. which, after deleting the source, I've now found to be a false alarm! So, was it as straight forward as the instructions are saying?

Mostly the wiki, googling where stuff wasn't working or I didn't know what to do. I followed some other guide to install the android sdk and then a post on here (i can't remember where!) to set some file in that up for our phones - something to do with the boot modes: recovery etc. Man, my memory sucks. :blink:

Incidentally, I didn't know you could do the apt-get install on one line as shown earlier in this thread lol. I did each of those in a separate command!!!

When it gets to "Configuring USB" ignore that stuff, and follow the guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11823740 , esentially to get ADB working and so Ubuntu can detect the phone.

Next Download the Source: http://source.android.com/source/downloading.html, rather straight forward

Then is where my understanding became limited, you can build a generic AOSP ROM, but it will probably be useless on the blade with very few parts of it actually working: http://source.android.com/source/building.html

I also downloaded the cyanogen blade kernel to the main folder (/bin/system/device) and tried using those scripts to build an AOSP rom but ran into so many issues, too many for me to understand (particularly as a ubuntu newbie, first time using it infact)

I was using parts of this tutorial: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-hac...n-aosp-rom.html particularly the bit under "Now to setup the vendor overlay"..

PS: I was using a virtual machine

So Trashman this is as far as google could take me, better luck to who else is trying

Anyone willing to help me out as to where I can go from here?

Ok, thanks for that. I think I'll give it another go. If you could do it, then so can I :huh:

Only problem so far was with python, as Arch Linux uses python3 as it's main python. Had to change some files to point to 'python2' instead 'python'. I'll see how far I get this time. ..oh and the deps are different on Arch as there are no dev-libs-packages, all are included in one package per program. I actually had most deps already installed, some from the base install, some as deps for other programs.

Looking forward to it, though since the source for the .32 kernel is the only one availible, I assume compiling it into a AOSP gingerbread ROM will lead to all sorts of bugs?(something after months of developing CM sorted out)

Im curious, once the .35 kernel source is released, if we compile it with an AOSP ROM, it will be fully functioning, without any need for modifications?
