Hoping I get a 'better screen' model (53 serial number group?)

P

Paul, assuming you have received your tablet, did you get the 53 version?

I've just sent them this...

Hi!

I have just purchased a Hannspree 10.1" Android Tablet and would like to know where I can download the kernel source code for the device.

Under the terms of the GPL (GNU General Public Licence) under which the Android kernel is licenced Hannspree is obligated to release this. I would be very grateful if you could acknowledge receipt of my request and if necessary forward my query to the appropriate person within your organisation.

Many thanks,

P

I had to hound them just to get a one-liner back from someone, then they never got back to any of my other attempts to ask them for it :(

Hope you get more luck though, maybe flex your "celebrity" status :P

Update: Ordered! Thanks again Paul.

Tip to anyone else ordering: Enter your payment details into your account too, otherwise you have to provide them over the phone.

Congrats! What are your first impressions?

Just seen your updates on Twitter...looking promising so far! :)

Definately a better deal than the Andypad IMO. They will have to drop their price of increase spec to compete.

:( i'm very upset! I got a 1633

I've contacted ebuyer about this now and hope they will swap it for the 53.

Also, so far in, its been ok. but all of a sudden I got a Wifi error message.

Its stopped finding Wifi!

i've powered it off and putting it on full charge.

Will give it a good test run tomorrow.

Most retailers will only swap/refund an item if it is unopened. I assume it wasn't possible to identify the model number by looking at the packaging? (without opening it)

It says on the box what version it is, but non of the box content has a security seal to show its been tampered with...

But I wanted to confirm at the back of the device

EDIT: Ebuyer have agreed a refund. I'm now going to buy from Best Buy UK and see my luck now.

So i've been toying with picking up a HANNSpad for a while, it seems a decent price for a tablet with 16GB built in, especially if you get one with the 'good screen' (apparently there are 2 different screen types).

The cheapest place online is eBuyer, which sells the device for £159.99 with free 5 day delivery. The tablet is also available at Best Buy UK, for £249.99 with free delivery (next working day ish). BUT, Best Buy have a policy whereby they will price match and refund 10% of the difference, so I have just bought one for £159.99 - £9 price match difference = £150.99! :D

The process is pretty simple...

  • Create yourself an account at the Best Buy UK website (this will speed the phone process)
  • Call 0800 380 00 00 and selection option 3 for a new purchase
  • Tell them you want to price match model code SN10T1 with eBuyer.com, where the quickcode is 271191 (they will view it online to validate)

That's it! They'll process the order for you and confirm the delivery date.

Sadly you can't claim Quidco cashback this way, although perhaps if you click through from Quidco before phoning then raise a claim with the order number later it might work? :)

P

I called Best Buy and they said they don't price match Ebuyer :S. they need a "Retail outlet"

This really is beginning to SUCK!

I phoned earlier this morning too before I'd seen bhups post and was told the same thing. "price match policy has changed in the last 24 hours and only match against a retail store in the UK".

Damn, wonder if it's worth a lucky dip at e-buyer :)

I'm now debating to just live with this.

I can send it back and hope for the other once to be a 53, but the way things are going, I don't think its worth the extra hassle.

I'm just gonna stick with it .

Maybe join the looters and sneak into the Best Buy store and just take one from there and swap it for my current one?

Technically its not stealing...

Only kidding.

The things people think of in desperate times.

Don't worry, I am STRONGLY against those bloody rioters.

@Paul

don't know if this may help future modding.

the hannspree is a rebadged malata a1011.

there are several kernels that seem to be floating about for the malata.

https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_malata_smb_a1011/blob/gingerbread/kernel

https://github.com/gojimi/smba1011-2632

it's possible this may help with future builds as the hardware should match

it's worth mentioning these are gingerbread as far as i can see

hope this is of help

regards

Chris

Whoa, I feel lucky now - I ordered from BestBuy last thing last night!

Many people are receiving 53 models from eBuyer, so might be worth trying again. Or wait a week for stocks to clear. Then again, there's probably going to be a lot of people returning 33 models so you might get one again.

Let us know what version you get as soon as it arrives ;)

Someone on SlateDroid mentioned that 2 of his friends purchased it from eBay eBuyer Express over the weekend and both received 33 versions mad.gif
