I really don't see how Kernel and Radio would make much difference here. Only a fraction of the equation involves the data aspect of the phone talking to cell towers. The actual hardware that involves the GPS being able to lick is controlled by independent means with GPS hardware on the phone. You can still lock on to Satellites. My mentioning the quick reference that if you blink, you will miss it is a pop up message that has you basically using the function of the location tab under the Personal tab in menu settings that has you check the use wlan, gps, and a function referred to as auto GPS Positioning, that really go back to the data aspect via mobile networks to increase accuracy. GPS will work if you do not use any of these functions. It just will be super slow and the accuracy will fall off to 100's of feet I believe. But don't quote me on the exact numbers here regarding accuracy.

How many Satellites do you see when the phone is just setting as you are locking during the gps status app function.

thanks for your reply. I see no satellites. GPS has been fine in all roms to date. it has just stopped in MIUI. i am tempted to flast a sense rom and just check to see if GPS is still ok. just in case its a hardware fault. but i very much doubt it

Sounds like your gps.conf is not right the. Do you have root explorer so you can view the file to edit

Look in system/etc/gps.conf and basically what does it say. Also, sorry if this was asked but since there are a few of you, please this time tell me where you are located. And are you running Trips ROM totally stock, or did you edit anything such as build.prop. And finally, there are some references here and on XDA that puport to fix GPS issues. I ran one of these mods yesterday and it BROKE my gps. At best, I had one to two satellite fixes. But right now you have zero> and all the MIUI's were Zero for you? And did you ever run any CM7 installs? And finally, you did use the wipe utility for formatting your phone prior to installs.

PS...if you wanted to do a quick down and dirty test, why not Nandroid back to a working ROM?

PPS to all, I have a sever right hand disability besides a screwed up back. So I do a lot of one hand typing. I can manage 30 wpm which isn't bad, but I at times have a ridiculous amount of typos, when I get involved as I am now with mutiple issues. So my appolgy in advance to all. Sometimes I can edit before it's noticeable. I used to use Swype for this reason, but Swype on a desktop is a little hard B) JUst a joke, but yes at tims my typing is for the birds...so sorry on the etiquette issues.'

Hey, can you make it so we can use google voice to make international calls?

I have GV installed and it has this capability, or am I missing something. I don't do International calling, but I just setup GV and it is one of the options.

No...you are using UK...England. If you are in Tennesse, you really should at leash try north america, which what I normally use. Use Faster Fix first and choose north america, and then hit go. Next, menu button, settings, personal tab and scroll down to location Settings. Open this up. First, check GPS configuration. Should NOW be pointing to north america.org. OK to that. Now, Intentioally UNCHECK the three settings you see...wlan, use gps, and auto. Now, check Auto first. I assume this will just check with no pop ups. Next, check, USE GPS. Same thing. NOw, when you finally rechec/enable Use WLAN, you should NOW get a pop up fro9m Google. Answer YES!!!!.

NOw, I want to see some Satellite action, so repeat GPS Status, followed by Latitude, and then Navigation should be ready to go for a test.

always fix permissions after flashing. my sense setup was a nandroid backup. i rewiped and reinstalled the sense backup again and gps wrks thought it took 24min 17sec to get a locked. yea i timed it. this is crazy. the rom is the beast rom. with miui i used faux's kernal but Trip said no support for modified kernals, so i re-wiped with my tedious process and kept everything stock and still no gps. tried that xda method too and that didn't work so i rewiped and tried stock again and still no gps

I had the gps issue (posted details a few pages back).

I couldn't get lock on any satelite and the gps icon didn't show in the taskbar. I flashed 003b several times with full wipe between. Used posted zip from this thread for superwipe. Tried all gps fix tips in the thread. Nothing helped. I figured it might have something to do with which previous rom I came from when installing beta 003. I went from b001 to b003. I'm a total noob about this so don't laugh about my reasoning :).

Anyway. I flashed Revoution HD 3.1 which I knew gps worked with for me and the gps locked on to nine satelites within 30 seconds. I then did a full wipe as always and installed the miui b003 again as tried many times before, but this time the gps worked like a charm. Locked on to 9 satelites within 10 seconds. It was as if the memory about my location was still there. Agps is still a no go so I wont get a position indoors unless close to a window.

As stated above, I'm a total noob in the tech departement. Just wanted to post this. It was probably just a fluke or something, but maby it will help someone somewhere :).

hey just wanted to say i love ur work, i also wanted to say that whatever ur going through just take it head on. Meaning dont fight ur emotions man just let them flow. I know its hard to see days getting any better but trust me things will get better with time. i first wanna thank everybody for their help. i found a fix for gps. i hope posting the link is not against the rules. took me 15secs and got 8 satellites finally.

Yep, works great. I get 3800-4000 in Quadrant with the 1.68mhz kernel.
