case2.pngMiddle School Math has been tailor-made for today’s technology-driven classroom. The age of worksheets is over. The experienced educators understand that learning follows from engagement, and they have designed Middle School Math to offer opportunities for student engagement at every turn. Stretching the full gamut of a well-rounded mathematics curriculum, the five modules in Middle School Math truly push the boundaries of interactive learning.

Middle School Math is perfect for the classroom, but it’s also a powerful tool for parents seeking the inside track for their 11-14 year old child.

§ Problem:

The middle school educators were seeking the powerful iPad application which can create engagement of students and hence education can be more interactive.

§ Challenges:

The major challenge we faced during application development is to design different math app module in such interactive way so user can easily learn math with fun. Most challenging modules are Data Magnet and Poking Cavemen. In Data Magnet module, a teacher can take survey input from student and can generate the report in various graphs. Taking survey input and generating graph accordingly and though implementing it in such easy way so middle school student can play with it is very difficult. Same problem we faced in Poking Cavemen module, in which user can learn different mode of math like integer, float, etc. by using the concept of poking cavemen scurrying on ground, thus making it interesting and presenting this module like playing game instead of learning math.

§ Features:

The application is divided in 5 modules;

§ Pinpoint Plotter: A student can easily learn co-ordinate system using this module. We have provided different animals by selecting one out of it, a co-ordinate system will be generated in which student needs to find out given co-ordinates for proper quadrant of co-ordinate system. When student will be done with it, all the point will be joining and image of selected animal will be drawn.

§ Data Magnet: The purpose of this module is to take create Survey, taking survey input from the student and generate the various graphs accordingly.

§ Poking Cavemen: In this module, a student can select from integer, decimal and fraction. Accordingly random number will be generated and will be drawn on the bone carrying over the head by scurrying cavemen on the ground. Student needs to poke cavemen according to descending order of the number showing on bone carrying over the head. If student will make any mistake in selection, get the penalty of 2 second deducted from the timer. Student can give two try to complete same round in case of failure. Student needs to clear 10 rounds to complete the module.

§ Place Value: In this module, student needs to figure out numerical form from the given standard form of the value. Student is provided by different place value, on the base of selection of one among of them, standard form of value will be shown on middle on next screen. From ‘0’ to ‘9’ digit is provided at the bottom, student can drag & dropped on the box provided at the top and forms the numerical form.

§ The Algebra Vault: In this module, a student needs to selection from either on-step or two-steps equation. Accordingly, equation will be loaded in subsequent page where a student needs to resolve it and figure out the result. A screen looks like a vault equipped with armed wheel using which set the sign ‘+’ or ’-‘ or ’*’ or ’/’ and a circular wheel using which can set the number. If student select proper number and sign and resolved the equation can open the door, else it will be locked inside the cage and needs to restart the stage.

§ Implementation:

Initially we started developing concept and wireframes – and continuously refined it till we were satisfied with the application flow and its behavior. Once we were prepared with concept, we started developing the graphics and artwork based on concept. As described it was most challenging and time taking part of application.

Team at Openxcell worked hand in hand with client to come up with exactly what customer wanted. Development was an iterating process with revision cycles and long conference calls with team at OpenXcell directly.

§ Results:

Middle School Math App was in Top 50 educational app in just 3 days of launch. It has more than 200 download from more than 20 different countries in just 2 days of launch.
