Guest TouchyAndalou Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 I'm a little confused about the darktremor script included in this rom. Does it mean that we should no longer create links within link2sd because darktremor does it for us?
Guest razhas Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Same here. Haven't applied any TPT's. Might that be the deal? I had the problem, after installation of v3c getting stucked on the green man. Then I restored to the original zte rom, then did a wipe, installed 3b, wiped again and installed 3c, worked fine. I am on Option 2 TPT.
Guest mickyman550 Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Hi, This will probably be a dumb question but hopefully I won't waste your time too much. I am new to android and have only tried to install a custom ROM once and almost bricked my phone. I do like the look of ATOMIC, however. Does anyone know if it is possible to transfer all my personal data and apps from the stock ROM I have installed now to the custom ROM? I have ClockworkMod and Titanium Backup. Would it involve making some form of partition? If so, could someone please point me to a tutorial for partitioning the ZTE Skate. I have searched google but don't really understand what partitioning does. Also, what happens to any apps I have already purchased through the app store, would I be able to re-download them onto the ATOMIC custom ROM without paying again?
Guest razhas Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 I hate to nag but I still have battery issues with V3.C too... I'm really careful on what apps I install and none of them update periodically except the calendar & gmail pushes Is there any way out of it? I am tired of charging the phone again and again. My buddy is on CM7, the battery lasts a day for him. I dont ask for more, but atleast a day.......
Guest H3ROS Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 (edited) V3.C.....well I am still facing problems with the battery life, the phone was fully charged at 6 am, and now at 4:30 pm, it is 14%. I browse on the internet sometimes and other times it is on standby. Do we need to install some application to improve the battery life after installing 3C? I can leave my phone on all night with wifi enabled (using Trillian with the option to keep wifi active), receive emails and texts and the battery has only dropped 1% from 11pm last night until now (1pm). However, if I actually use the phone then with the screen turned on the battery does go down a fair bit but I think if I were to tone down the brightness further then it'd help. Maybe you could try CM7 to compare? Edited January 6, 2012 by H3ROS

Does it mean that we should no longer create links within link2sd because darktremor does it for us? Yes - I think you are right My meagre understanding is; The Dark Tremor script makes the sd-ext partition part of /data Atomic 3c then uses it to install programs onto - so if you were to move a program that could be moved to the normal section of the sd card you are actually moving it from one SD card partition onto the other. I am not certain of the above but have used it to guide how I have set up my phones new apps - use Lind2sd to move the programs that can be moved to the sd card (without linking) and not to move anything else.

Yes darktremors does all the work,it also moves dalvik to SD too,but you can change this by downloading the darktremors app from market. You can delete links2sd if you wish,no point having to scripts to do the same job even though they do it in different ways. The darktremors app is called: A2SDGUI

My friend says CM7 is good, I tried it for half a day then i had other problems with it like slowing of the applications and late response when i clicked certain applications, late response when searcing the contacts, hence i switched to 3C. But both have a problem with the battery when browsing , i guess because the screen is on.......
Guest wrtease Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 try out battery calibration and you should be fine ,get it from market .i use it and it does what it says .

All your market apps - paid and free should reinstall automatically if you have - backup this phone to google, checked on your current system - Havee a look at google market on a desktop web browser - login with your phones google account and see what it shows about your current programs, the worst thing that could happen is that after the upgrade it will see your phone as two phones (before atomic and after) and you have to install the old programs to the new phone from the web browser. You can probably get away with transfering your data accross using Titanium but almost certainly not all your apps. My recomendation is to make sure you have a full Titannium backup and a copy of your sd cards contents before you start. Once you have unlocked and rooted the phone you will be in a position to use Clockwork Mod and this can be used to backup your phone - which you should do. - You should then backup your sd card again - it now has the Clockwork backup on it. You will then have 3 backups Titanium - data and programs SD card - data SD card - clockwork mods backup If all goes well then only the Titanium Data is to be restored but the others are there in case it doesnt - and it does go wrong sometimes. Once the phone is rooted, unlocked from orange and backed up the next stage is decide if you will be using a second partition on the sd card (recomended) - if you do then all the data on the sd card will be overwritten. Then prepare sd card in clockwork mod Prepare the phone by installing one of the TPT's with a system partition Install Atomic run links2sd and introduce it to the EXT3 partition reboot reinstall all programs use titanium to restore your data but not the sytem data or programs Edited January 6, 2012 by nicksoph
Guest Atomix86 Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 Atomic definitely has battery issues. I notice that when screen is off (and as a result data gets turned off), it's absolutely perfect, it's when there is a data connection it seems to drop. I trim out apps I don't need which run in the background (eg. geniewidget, talk, etc) but to no avail, I guess there must be some underlying problem. Still the best rom on the skate atm though, if only because the proximity sensor works perfectly right from the bat ;). Oh and before anyone asks: yes I've tried with stock cpu clocks ;).
Guest H3ROS Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 (edited) try out battery calibration and you should be fine ,get it from market .i use it and it does what it says . Now that you've said that, that's something I've done. I charged to 100%, booted into recovery and wiped the battery status so that it will recalibrate it. I guess the app does the same thing. Guest wrtease Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 i think the app does it better. okay.
Guest v1pEr Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 But what does it do exactly? Can anyone here explain me what the battery calibration does? As I understood it it only erases/resets a file? Does it actually improve the battery consumption or is it only visually: eg. the battery % number does not reflect the truth but the actual consumption is the same. I'm willing to do anything to make my battery last longer, most say it's up to the user but then I'd like somebody to tell me what I'm doing wrong...

Guest H3ROS Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 It will recalculate how long the phone thinks the battery will last for. It should be done only when your phones fully charged and you shouldn't do it too often. You may find that you can get back half an hour of battery in some cases.
Guest wrtease Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 all i can say is try it .i use it and works for me. if you need better battery then its down to trying it. if not then do it the old way.
Guest 1immortal Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 hey guys does the RTL fix forks for anyone ? i flashed it with the latest 3.C , and i got the green android for ages, its stuck untill i wipe everything and reflash again.
Guest Nozz Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 TPT erases everything on the phone (except the SD card) so wipes are indeed not necessary I just used the 4GB SD card I was using in the phone without erasing anything and it worked perfectly. That is the "MD5 Checksum" that is written about in the guide. An MD5 checksum can be used to verify that the download or copy was not corrupt. Using the tool of part 10, it reads every bit & byte of the file and calculates a unique fingerprint. The creator of the TPT's has calculated this fingerprint before he uploaded so you can calculate the fingerprint yourself once you have downloaded and copied the file to your SD card. If the fingerprint is the same you can be 100% sure that the file is an identical copy of the file that was uploaded by the creator. Thanks again v1pEr. I now understand what has to happen but having second thoughts seeing as others aren't noticing any difference in battery life and some folks even some to be encountering speaker problems. Extending battery life would be my main reason for upgrading from Atomic v2.5 and unless there are any other very noticeable benefits from v3c, then I might just stay as I am for now. i.e. if it ain't broke, don't fix it!
Guest tillaz Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 the speaker problem that two people have had is nothing to do with this ROM, it could happen when you where using stock or CM7 or CM9 etc... just look at the proximity censer problem everyone has had straight out of the box... its nothing more than bad manufacturing & laziness from zte, i also had a faulty OMC way before i even made this rom, lol its just paranoier, trust me your speaker is safe on this rom
Guest pky123 Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 (edited) Does anyone have a problem with streaming services like Tunein Radio? Basically what happens is that when the screen goes off after a short time I hit buffering issues. If you wake the phone the streaming starts again. If you keep the phone awake it works just fine. I have wifi policy set to never sleep and always on data for 3g connections activated. It happens on both wifi and mobile data. I remember having a similar problem on my other phone HTC Desire. I remember seeing on XDA forum a kernel that noted and addressed an issue with data being throttled when the handset is sleeping. That makes sense because when my phones asleep it buffers up again, plays then stops after 15 seconds or so, then buffers again then plays and so on. Anyone had this on this rom? I have not tried CM7 yet. Just want to say thank you for this excellent ROM as well. Beer tokens will be heading your way soon. Edited January 6, 2012 by pky123

Guest tillaz Posted January 6, 2012 Report Posted January 6, 2012 about battery life this is my very last shot at it as i know battery life is not great over all ROM's unfortunately v3.D will be up later
