Guest boonkui Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Is it just me? 2.4.4 R1 is very stable where general productivity apps are concerned. I experienced sluggishness and random reboots for graphics intensive games that were previously fine in 2.4.1. Examples of these games are Bakery Story and Graviracers. Could the choice of "portrait" in install.txt be the cause? Note: These games are run in landscape mode.
Guest mingonn Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I fixed Exchange Email FC by extracting from GingerStreak 2.4.1. Just replace /system/app/Email.apk. Nice tip boonkui, it worked for me as well. No FCs with email notifications now. I am not sure what version of the email app came out in 2.4.1 For the beginners out there (like me) Download steves 2.4.1 gb release (.zip) from this forum, open it and just copy the email.apk file out of the /system/app directory and put it on your SD card (I put it in root but it doesn't matter where) Force stop your email application Install a file manager on your streak (I used ES File Explorer) Via the file manager, navigate to your SD card and copy the email.apk file Navigate to /system/app on your phone (I had enable Root Explorer and Mount File System as writable, options under ES File Explorer) Paste and reboot Re enter all your settings and wait a bit.
Guest Technomenon81 Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I initially had no camera when I flashed the rom but I soon realized I hadn't cleared the cache or the dalvik; I did do a factory reset though. I reflashed the rom and made sure to clear everything but I did not do another factory reset the second time around. The camera has been fine since. All the people who have camera problems. Kindly mention the following... 1) What options did you choose for install.txt? 2) Did the camera not work from first reboot? 3) Did you use titanium backup to restore apps/data? 4) If yes to question 3, did you restore system apps/data? For me, I chose arabic, zeam, bios for install.txt didn't check camera on boot used titanium backup for restoring apps/data including system data! Also try dalvik wipe and cache wipe to see if it works Another thing to try is to clear camera data and then run fix permissions All these are suggestions on other threads (not dell streak related) that people have suggested and they work for some people. Lets get active and help the DJ here!
Guest Coxeroni Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I am facing reboots more or less reproducible while browsing Hattrick.org So far Dolphin Mini and Opera Mobile seem to be affected. I don't know if it has to do with Flash, I will have a deeper look into it. Additionally after installing an app the phone sometimes also reboots.
Guest Papi-jj Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Just to confirm did DJ Steve change the shutter sound in the camera app?
Guest mbmapit Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Ok i've been rocking this rom for 12hrs now and it's fantastic (donating when home from work)! However one problem, I am a heavy sleeper and thus I set 3 alarms to wake me up. This morning my alarms went off no problem and on the final one I turned them all of and got up. After having my morning coffee and shower etc I took my phone off of charge but it was dead/stuck in sleep mode. I had to pull the battery and turn it on again. Any ideas steve/anyone? Thanks.
Guest Azurren Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Just to confirm did DJ Steve change the shutter sound in the camera app? Haven't tested it, but he did add some 2.4 notifications. So it is possible
Guest Chris Cullen Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Well, there is a pretty noticeably difference in power management (battery life and task management) which translates to an overall general smoothness. Also, coming from the AT&T locked version of the Streak (bloatware included), Gingerbread is more aesthetically pleasing. I don't consider myself a power-user and this current development of Steve and Fards is pretty damn stable for an RC rom. If you can get past the snags and the occasional FC's and hard crashes, I think you'll like it much more then stock. I know that I have no intention of returning to it. Thanks very much for your insight Technomenon81 - I may wait a bit until we get the final release as it's a real pain when my phone dies or messes around. Can I ask if there are any advances in the sound side - I understand that GB has a equaliser built in and also do the new widgets appear when selecting text? I have now established that I can always go back to stock should I need to - so I am happy to give it a go when the full release comes along. The only thing that may prevent me upgrading is if Steve starts to beta ICS - or is that just wishful thinking !! :o
Guest nalpt Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 also a doner! well deserved by the devs: some pro apps have more bugs than this full rom! Have been running this for five days.Install options were dell stage only, using portugal for location, , and I've been user launcehr go ex and dw contacts for tab and phone interface. Its smooth and fast and resilient - sometimes it slows down, bogged by many apps in memory, but more often than with other roms it won't crash and I can resot toa task killer to free memory instead of reeboot or removing battery, does seem a little lagier in graphic intensive apps and galery as mentioned by some. GPS adn camera are fine. Bugs: I have been getting some reboots, mostly when installing or updating apps from market (such as dw contacts) or restoring from titanium backup (happened with angry birds rio), but once in a while also randomly. These ramdom reebots usually happen after I use the Streak, so I'm inclined to think they could be linked to screen turnign off or locking: I put dthe dell on the desk and look again when the boot animation catches my eye. The clock speeds up a little now, it used to regsiter bigger differences (as mentioned by somelese here). For these two bugs, I trie the suggestion in post 74: reflash and clear delvak cache. For a few days it seemed to have solved the issues, but then the bugs returned. Neither of these bugs is especially serious or recorrent, but they do exist.
Guest Al Rahman Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Hey steve..very stable rom..runnin since 48 hour and not a random reboot or a sleep of death..GPS workin with arabic too. The only issue is the wihte screen with any camera app and with mp4 videos...hope its goin to b fixed the next release :-)
Guest Al Rahman Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 Hi Steve, I do not know how to explain that. GPS is working with Arabic support.. How? I do not know. Thanks a lot. Donation is on the way. GPS working with arabic..confirmed.. Arnt u getting white screen with the camera and mp4 videos??
Guest Azurren Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 GPS working with arabic..confirmed.. Arnt u getting white screen with the camera and mp4 videos?? Did you follow my "reversal" install method? At the very least you should clear the Dalvik cache (StreakMod Recovery, under "advanced") No ill effects whatsoever
Guest wavecxs Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 chainfire3d no longer breaks the gps in this version...BUT now it breaks the camera, the camera shows white. hmmm...it seem to have the same pattern with that of the arabic patch. maybe solving the other might just solve both problems. also, there is noticeable lag when playing some gameloft games (which played perfectly in the previous rom version). everything else feels faster though, its just the gameloft games that lags.

My install.txt has the following Adwlauncher Bios Arabic Noswype

My install.txt has the following Adwlauncher Bios Arabic Noswype Steve previously said that the GPS+Arabic issue was caused by to many libs. So it seems that its just jumped from GPS to the camera  Donno what to suggest.. I also don't know if anything can be done about it
Guest muteman3 Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 3d performance is much worse. Most games lag
Guest florin0904 Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 (edited) Yes i notice to that all the gameloft games lag now, they din't lag in the previous version. Edited November 9, 2011 by florin0904

Not sure if it is portrait related or not, however I've used the same "mod" in all previous GingerStreak releases without issue
Guest ChicoKiri Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I recall 1.9 having two flavors of kernel. One "normal" and another that altered 3D in such a way as to break Gameloft games and such. Perhaps there's been another similar change in kernels? The poor 3D performance and reboots caused me to switch back Dell 360, but I'm hopeful about Gingerstreak's next iteration.
Guest jaw2floor Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Hmm I seem to score much lower in Quadrant with this rom. In 2.4.2.1 I was getting about >1.7k now I'm getting much less. I'll do some benchmarks with the two roms after school to compare.

Yes i have had the same problem i think its the dock, alarms work fine but when i put into snooze mode then sleep it after its been out of dock the alarms don't go off..
Guest Djezpur Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Thanks to all the devs for their hard work, but after being on 2.4.4 for a couple of days I'm sad to say I had to revert to StreakDroid 1.9.1. I've had some problems with Bluetooth, but the dealbreaker was the HW-decoding of videofiles. I watch lots of videos on my Streak, and it turned out that HW-playback of mp4-files suffered irregular hickups (very brief pauses of sound and image). Not constantly, but enough to be annoying. Also resuming an mp4 in 'DICE Player' simply caused the whole app to freeze. Anyone else noticed these problems?
Guest eoh7678 Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Awesome ROM for the most part. I, too, am having the problem with the camera showing a white screen. It also seems to affect any other video- Youtube app plays videos with sound OK, but the video is all white, just like camera. Videos in gallery that I've taken also play back with white screen but sound is fine. Seems to be some kind of video driver/codec issue, perhaps. I followed the full revert install guide- flashed to 360 recovery, restored 360 pkg, etc, etc. Followed it to the letter. Only options were: noswype, launcherpro, portrait Any help appreciated, as I truly love this rom!!
Guest mellojoe Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 I'm up and running on 2.4.4 Thanks, team. Absolutely the best. Up and running for 4 days. Not a single random reboot of any kind. In fact, I haven't had any problems of any kind since 2.4.4 My install.txt: us160 bios noapps noswype Then I install from market the apps I use and the laucher I use. This keeps them handy for automatic updating, etc. I did use Titanium Backup to remove Voice Search and then re-installed from market, and by doing so I have had no problems with Voice Search.
Guest Spencershaun Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Same as me nearly a week 4 me the "DJ"streak is running smooth i love it Up and running for 4 days.
