So you want to unlock your OMC/Skate? You’ve come to the right place!

IF YOU UNLOCKED BEFORE THE MAC ADDRESS FIX GO HERE

All the stuff in the tutorial is simplified by me but the full credit for unlock has to go to xiaoyaoswim who originally posted this method here and also to John W who figured out how to save the WiFi MAC address.

Please help him get a new OMC - he kind of messed up his old one - Donate to him:

I HAVE UNFORTUNTLEY BEEN UNABLE TO TEST THIS MYSELF BUT SEVERAL PEOPLE REPORT IT WORKING SO THERE SHOULD BE NO PROBLEMS.

HOWEVER THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF LOSING WARRANTY.

YOU SHOULD INSTALL THESE DRIVERS FIRST - http://www.multiupload.com/BQ7VQOQA4L

  1. Google "QPST 2.7 Build 366". Click the first link and download the file beside "QPST 2.7 Build 366"
    and install it.
  2. Download this file and unzip it.
  3. Connect your phone to your computer and make sure that you have USB Debugging turned on
  4. Go into “Preparation” folder and run the “install-recovery-windows.bat”. This should flash stock recovery and reboot the phone.
  5. Shut the phone down
  6. Remove your battery and disconnect the USB cable
  7. Now as you connect the phone to your computer press the volume down button. Don’t let go of the volume button until “FTM” comes up on your phone.
  8. You installed QPST in the first step. Now in the Start menu find "Software Download" which was installed by QPST.
  9. Click "Backup" on the utility and choose where to save the "QCN" file
  10. Go into the Unlock folder of the extracted zip file and run “download.exe”
  11. If you are sure you want to unlock press “START”!
  12. Sit through some hairy moments as it flashes itself and unlocks the phone.
  13. Go back to the "Software Download" utility.and click "Restore". Find the .qcn file you saved and restore it.
  14. Remove your USB cable, put the battery back in and any SIM of your choice – your phone is now unlocked!!
  15. Power on the phone and turn on USB Debugging.
  16. OPTIONAL – go to “POST-UNLOCK FOLDER” and run the bat file again – this installs ClockworkMod
You now have a fully working unlocked Orange Monte Carlo / ZTE Skate!!

Hi,

File/link in step 2 no longer works.

Could someone be nice enough to update link?

Cheers

try rebooting then check it again.

Thank you for your suggestion but no luck. I still have no WiFi. I also tried to select the network I was trying to connect to previously and pressing 'Forget', then reconnect and enter my password again but that did not work either. I don't have a simcard in my phone but WiFi should work without it.

can you check the nv file out and report back.

Will do just will have to do a bit of 'research' into where to find it.

Posted (edited)

use a good file manager to show you.

I have downloaded AstroFile Manager but it can't find the nv_data.bin. - Is that what I need?

I Googled this and apparently it's 'hidden' and I would need an emulator to find it (if so, which)?

Also, although I have no WiFi at the moment, if I went ahead and rooted my phone would that make fixing the WiFi issue easier or more difficult? I read that to use an emulator the phone needs to be rooted (?)

Update: I have rooted my phone (have Superuser and ClockWork installed) but have not installed a ROM yet. I still have the WiFi issue and don't know how to find the nv ?

Should I stay on Orange stock and try to sort the WiFi first or install a ROM and do it later? How can I find the nv ?

Thanks in advance

Yeah you have to turn on wifi and Bluetooth for them yo show up, as for phone number I dont have it but I think that's giffgaff thing.

Turned on wifi and looks all good apart from my number not showing but I can live with that. Thanks for your help

Erm... my WiFi doesn't seems to work now. It goes from scanning to disconnected to scanning to disconnected.

My selected WiFi network goes from authenticating to remembered to disabled, then starts again.

There is a Wi-Fi MAC address showing though...

What mac address do you get now? Have you edited the QCN file and restored it to your phone?

Hello good afternon.

I'm trying to start to unlock my OMC but I have a problem. When I execute the file "install-recovery-windows" and it shows me:

C:\Users\Adrián\Desktop\Unlock Zte\Preparation>fastboot-windows.exe flash recobe

ry recovery.img

< waiting for device >

I know that it could be driver stuff but when I use in cmd window: "adb devices" it shows me:

adb server is out of date. killing...

* daemon started successfully *

List of devices attached

P743T_OUK device

Then I don't know what it could be... Thx for help and sorry for my english

’waiting for device‘ is a typical problem of drivers, please go for this topic.

BTW if your phone is in stock recovery, you can just skip this step (install-recovery-windows.bat).

Did it show really that?

Stock recovery means that I didn't change the rom of my mobile?

Did it show really that?

Xd! sorry i tried to introduce that by myself but if I use the file fastboot-windows.exe put the same (with v)

I just followed the tutorial from point 5 to 14 - I did not edit the QCN file (should I have?)

I get this Wi-Fi Mac address: 38:46:08:1C:51:17

Yes it means you haven't changed the original recovery of your mobile, i.e. you haven't installed ClockworkMod Recovery.

Oops, my mistake. You don't need to edit QCN.

Your WIFI should be working then. Have you tried to insert a SIM card ?

I have a sim in now but WiFi still is on the same behaviour (scanning then disconnecting)

Quite strange...I would try to flash everything back to Orange stock via TPT to find if WIFI will work.

I am still on Orange stock though. It was a straight out of the box OMC which I unlocked and after unlock (for the first time, put a sim in, just to check if it registered on the new network - and it did). WiFi was not working though.

I then rooted and installed ClockWork but have not changed the ROM yet. WiFi is scanning and disconnecting...

I'm not sure what is the cause of your wifi problem.blink.gif Can you try another wifi network? Maybe there is some compatible problem between your phone and the rounter. Also I think it is worth trying TPT an Orange image.bin, as it will not only restore Orange stock system but also stock boot and recovery partitions.

I will see if I can try another WiFi network. I don't really know how toTPT an Orange image.bin but as I am still on Orange stock, I am a bit confused as to why I would need to restore the stock which is still on my phone? I have not flashed another ROM yet. - Does unlock, superboot and CW (without a ROM) change partitions?

You haven't changed the system partition, but superboot and CW replaced stock boot and recovery partition respectively.

Oh, I see. Could you please send me a link to the image.bin I need and if there are any instructions with how to TPT it. I can follow instructions (mostly) but often don't really know what I'm doing.

Would TPT-ing the image cause me loss of Superuser and CW ? Would I need to put them back again?

I don't particularly want to TPT - not only because I don't know how to but also because I am afraid I will have to go back and start all over with everything again...

I don't know if this is relevant, I am just trying to compare things between a phone which is connected to my router(another ZTE) and the OMC.

The one connected, under WiFi settings, has three sections showing. Turn on WiFi, Network notification, Add WiFi network.

On the OMC, there is an extra section "Add WPS network"

Regarding trying another network, I have just connected to an 'open' (without the lock over its WiFi icon) network. However, I can't connect to my home router.

You are correct that if you flash an orange image.bin by TPT you will need to root your phone and install Clockmod again.

Since your OMC is able to connect to another network, I think your OMC is just all right and TPT is not necessary any more. The problem is clear - your OMC could not work with your home router.
