Guest Davidoff59 Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 I would expect you to get compensation for the downtime from whoever blocked the handset.
Guest homer187 Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 I've had the same thing happen - Orange San Francisco with a T Mobile SIM working fine until a few days ago. Now can't make/receive calls or send/receive SMS. 3g still seems fine though... Seems to have coincided with the Orange signal text.
Guest Steven Y Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 (edited) Exactly the same problem here - OSF purchased October 2010, unlocked, flashed, working perfectly until Tuesday and now blacklisted. Went to T-Mobile store yesterday and asked them to remove this, and apparently this was done but could take up to 24 hours. Still not able to send or receive calls or texts however. T-Mobile sim in mine btw, never used the Orange one. Edited December 17, 2011 by Steven Y
Guest ampeli Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 (edited) gather your thread on MSE is this one? http://forums.moneys...d.php?t=3677593 Yes! Tried to post the link but it wouldn't let me (is it because I'm a Newbie?) Please could everyone with this problem keep us posted with updates - still need to know who made the blacklisting and when / how it is resolved. Thanks Edited December 18, 2011 by ampeli
Guest captainkirk Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 Just so you know my out come. I had a bared T-mobile pay as you go sim bared last week. Contacted t-mobile and noting worked. New Roms installed even new version 2 on a old OSF bought last year. Nothing. I tried vodaphone sim in phone and worked and also tried t-mobile sim in a working phone and thats fine so it was a link between the OSF and this t-mobile sim. Asked t-mobile to replace it and they said £10 so told them to sick it and went to vodaphone and transfered the number to them and all has been working great on new sim and new rom.
Guest F0rester Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 I also bought an Orange San Francisco back in September last year. In the afternoon on 14th Dec 2011 I suddenly stopped being able to send / receive texts or calls but 3G does still work. I use Virgin Mobile but have also tried an Orange SIM in it. With Orange it doesn't even establish a connection. I have called Orange multiple times to be told it's blocked by another network and they'll send an e-mail via their supervisor to get the block removed in 48hrs. What a surprise... it doesn't get unblocked. I unlocked the handset using nckcodes last year and have been running Cyanogenmod without problems until now.
Guest Armadillo1 Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 (edited) I'm in the same boat. Initially I called T-mobile who said it was blacklisted but not by them, so I spoke to Vodafone who I'd been with for a year on the OSF, until I changed to T-mobile 1 month ago. They told me to go to their shop which I did today, only to be told it's not blacklisted by them. Then I went to the T-mobile phone shop and was told it's not blacklisted but they thought it was a problem with the phone itself. At least now I know it's not the phone itself. Guest RavemasterX Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 Exact same problem here. Has anyone successfully got this resolved yet? I'll visit a T-Mobile shop tomorrow I guess but it's all highly irritating.
Guest topspinserve Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 I have had exactly the same problem. But happily, this is resolved! :) My San Fran was bought from new from Orange online around October 2010. Moved to T-Mobile just over 1month ago, but as described by others here, suddenly stopped working Wednesday 14th Dec. T-mobile and Orange confirmed that the phone was blacklisted. I emailed Orange customer services over the weekend and after a few phone calls on Monday from customer services, the blacklisting was removed yesterday (Tuesday). This is a mystery. The problems seem to have only affected SanFran users who have moved to T-Mobile. Why is that? Throughout the week that my phone was apparently blacklisted, a spare vodafone sim works in it normally.

I moved mine to TMobile pretty much as soon as I bought in in Oct last year (after Orange messed me about and I changed my mind about porting to them). No issues with blacklisting so far thankfully. I signed up for the Orange signal when it first came up, I did get the text about 3g recently too though not tried it on Orange 3g yet. Edited December 21, 2011 by rjm2k
Guest Armadillo1 Posted December 23, 2011 Report Posted December 23, 2011 After visting T-mobile, Vodafone, Orange shop and making 3 calls to Orange I finally had it unblacklisted. Hooray. They weren't sure who or why it had been blacklisted but they were happy to unblacklist it as they couldn't find any reason why my phone should have been blacklisted. Result.
Guest Pseud_ONym Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 Another to add to the list. I bought mine around September 2010, unlocked and put my Virgin SIM in it. Mine too stopped working on the 14th and I contacted Virgin. Virgin contacted T-mobile - whose network they use - and were told it was blacklisted, however when they tried to lift the blacklisting they were told it wasn't. Virgin assumed it was a faulty SIM and sent me a new one, this only just arrived due to postal delays and made no difference. Comparing notes with some others, it seems that those who registered the SIM that came with the phone before unlocking, don't have the problem.
Guest Andyroid Posted December 27, 2011 Report Posted December 27, 2011 My SF stopped dialing out and texts were a no go as well this month shortly after a text from t-mobile with regards to the signal merger completion, at last I now know why. Bought around Sept last year, Orange Sim was thrown away, unlocked and a custom rom installed, being fine all this time till now, sim works fine in other handsets. Its not just my mob, the wifes went the same way, I find it quite shocking that mobiles I paid 200 notes for are now on a banned ime list.
Guest ampeli Posted December 28, 2011 Report Posted December 28, 2011 Finally resolved! Text from T-Mobile customer service - how was my recent experience? This was followed up by a phone call from Techical Support to say the phone has been 'unblacklisted'. They didn't want to tell me who had blacklisted it in the first place (initially stating 'legal reasons', then after consulting supervisor amending this to 'company policy') - finally revealing it was - surprise surprise (not) - Orange.
Guest Maxsas360 Posted December 30, 2011 Report Posted December 30, 2011 So there's risk that my phone can be blocked? I am in Lithuania and my phone is unlocked obviously.
Guest ampeli Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 So there's risk that my phone can be blocked? I am in Lithuania and my phone is unlocked obviously. I would say there is a risk, however my barred OSF still worked with my MTN Cyprus SIM - it was only blocked from T-Mobile (and I would think Orange, but I didn't have an Orange SIM to check this).
Guest unrandomsam Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 This kind of makes sense (I believe orange phones cannot be used on Orange until you activate them over the phone - mine didn't work on orange even with another known working Orange sim (Other networks were fine) until it was activated over the phone.

Thank god there is no Orange or even sign of it. Just Omnitel(Telia Sonera), Tele2(Which I use) and Bite (Part of Vodafone), so my phone is risk free. And my phone never had Orange SIM in lol.
Guest swisstourist Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 I told you guy last June. Nobody wanted to believe me.it s illegal to unlock the phone. Who is laughing now?i have been banned 5 days... Communist:angry: sent from tapatalk :-)

Guest Zehray Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 Just to keep people that have been affected informed. After various calls to T-mobile and no result went to a orange shop with proof of purchase who confirmed that it had been blaclisted and took 48 hours to get unlocked. So happy to have my phone back!!!
Guest Maringer Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Interesting. I've just seen this thread and, although I haven't encountered this problem with my old Orange SF (which my Dad is now using with a Giffgaff SIM), I've encountered this exact same issue with another phone, a Motorola Defy. The Defy had been sitting on the shelf unused for a few months but, when I tried to pass it on to my girlfriend at the end of December, I encountered the same problem of no calls/SMS being accepted (regardless of the SIM used) though 3G data did work. The Defy was originally a t-mobile device but was SIM unlocked and I'd used it with both Orange and Giffgaff. The odd fact is that my girlfriend's SIM is from t-mobile so I had no reason to think that there could be a problem with the original t-mobile phone! I had just assumed that the phone had broken somehow which was why the 2G calls/SMS weren't working. I wonder if I get in touch with t-mobile, I'll be able to get it unlocked? There are two problems here. Firstly, I bought the Defy second-hand on eBay so don't have an original proof of purchase. Secondly, I've since bought my girlfriend a new Defy because I had promised her a phone! With my past experience of the incredible ineptitude of Orange, I can't say I'd be overly surprised to find that this was all their fault. This would make it doubly bad because I bought my girlfriend's new Defy from Orange when it was on offer earlier this month! It would be typical if their incompetence cost me this extra expense!
Guest siqass Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 I have same issue with my OSF, after a year of usage cant make calls or text. Unlocked from very first day. can someone explain can I really NOT unlock device and use it on other network if I bought it as pay as you go and paid full price (which makes my phone mine not orange's)?! Makes little sense so far so far can someone report that they phoned orange and after complaining got theirs un blacklisted? I bought it from orange online shop, have all the proofs of purchase etc
Guest Davidoff59 Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 First, any phone blacklisted in the UK will work abroad so anyone who bought in the uk and is using in another country should be fine. This loophole is going to be closed to stop stolen phones being sold abroad. This issue seems to have arisen after orange and t mobile started sharing signals. Unlocking a phone is in no way illegal when either bought as pay and go or on contract. There is absolutely no law against sim unlocking. Changing an imei is illegal so please don't get the 2 mixed up. someone needs to find out who is blacklisting these phones. To be without service because of someone else's error is not acceptable and as its not an isolated case, people should start asking for compensation for loss of service. When money starts being discussed, I guarantee that it will be fixed damn quick to stop it happening again. If not, point Ofcom to this thread and make a complaint.
Guest Maringer Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Looks like I'm pretty much screwed here. I've contacted Orange and they confirm that my Defy is, indeed, now blacklisted. Unfortunately, as I bought the phone second-hand on eBay, I can't prove I'm the legal owner and that it hasn't been stolen. I used the phone without problems for around six months, but this is of no interest to them - I mean, how many phones do you think are actually reported as 'stolen' 8 months after the fact?!? Idiotic. So, as reported here and elsewhere, it seems pretty likely to me that the phone has been incorrectly blacklisted because they Orange (or t-mobile) made a balls-up of things. As usual. I've sent a message to the chap who sold the phone to me via eBay, but I'd tend to doubt I will get anywhere with him as it was a pain in the neck to get in touch when I bought the phone in the first place! Any ideas?
