If you format system then install the rom and gapps again it works. Keeps it all setup from your data.

If you're not bothered about the size reduction and just want to fix the location based apps in the market then you should be able to just flash it over the top.

I am already on a 160MB /system partition, so I think that it would be more or less the same size even after flashing your GAPPS...

but maybe I'll still try to format /system without wiping /data... I'm curious about this thing of reflashing the same ROM without loosing settings :)

I'll probably have to recalibrate the battery, but it doesn't matter.

After 3 and a half hours of usage my experiences are:

  • The ROM is generally smooth, UI is nice and snappy.
  • I had 4 or 5 force reboots in this time.
  • Camera, as others have already mentioned, lacks the preview. The first time I used it, it rebooted my device.
  • Gallery sometimes shows the image, at other times it blank.
  • Calculator doesn't work.
  • UI sometimes starts to flash and flicker and vibrate and things like that.
  • Colors (gradients, etc.) are extremely horrible (low color depth, I assume).
  • Youtube is not perfect but not so bad for me.
  • Browser is awesome (it's not your work, but I really like it :D)

Thanks for your work tilal, keep on developing this awesome ROM!

I have installed around 40 applications that had all been linked through Link2SD (before reboot internal memory have around 60MB free space - after every reboot just around 10MB - why is that I wrote few sentences down...)

have partitioned SD card with 2GB ext3 and rest fat32

Link2SD is working with one exception - after every reboot I have to relink all library files back to ext3, strange is that it keeps dalvik and apk in ext3 without problem...

AFAIK android unpacks the native files on every boot, that's why you need to relink.

Well I'm testing a fix for HW decoding of videos on youtube/locally so I don't want to release before I confirm/deny that the fix works.

First of all thank you for your excellent work.

I can live without the camera until a fix will be found, but I use everyday the fm radio, and it is not in this ROM. 53 pages and not one mention it! Is it just me?

nope... doesnt happens to me on CM 7 stable/KANG, GSF or other GB build. If it does happen, after every reboot I would run out of internal memory and made phone unusable (FC for every application that want to write on internal memory (Fatal error - NO SPACE LEFT ON DEVICE))... Also .apk and dalvik-cache stays on ext3 partition. Only things that are moved back to internal are lib files...

I downloaded update-cm-9-20120226-NIGHTLY-blade-signed.zip, removed the content of /media/video and installed it into a 160mb partition, after a reboot, i installed mini-gapps-ics-20120224-signed.zip and Titanium Backup tells me that there are still 10MB free. But i have the following issues:

* I can download apps from the market, but the GMail app is listed as not compatible and the phone is not listed when i browse the market on my computer

* there are no standard live wallpaper

Is there something i can do about that?

From Link2SD faq:

On Android 2.3 and 2.2, the links to the lib files are being lost after rebooting because the PackageManager service unpacks all native libraries from the apk files at boot time.

Android 2.3 links native library directories and it does not unpack libs for apps on the external card since they have their libraries in the ASEC container. But it unpacks the lib files that are linked by Link2SD.

If I'm not mistaken this is disabled in cm for faster boot speed.

I tried to read up on ICS, but I am still puzzled:

Although ICS may be the exciting new toy, what advantages does it have over GB if not even the same functionality is properly working?

Sorry I removed gmail pretty early on in the process as I don't use it. I assumed people would be able to get it form the market but I guess not! I'll add it back as we ended up with some free space left over and re-upload it later.

I don't know about the wallpaper, I use my own pics. I don't think they're part of gapps are they?

[edit]

Now includes gmail. You can download it via the original link in post 1050

Start with the first page of the thread, pretty clear that it's not all working and work in progress. Tbh not everything works in gb all the time and certainly didn't when it was in it's early development.i know the radio was a long time coming in CM7. This is coming on leaps and bounds but there will be ups and downs and some things might never work properly.

Yep when it's ready. Can't imagine it would rush him. Can see why developers get bored of hearing that question.
